Alay[TK] Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 Wow amazing shots! Thanks so much Paul! That figure would certainly be a great start for a CRL reference! It might be a stretch (especially considering they were in the film for < a second) but maybe one of the screen used ones will turn up. Quote
Caligari[TK] Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 Thanks for the detail pics! It would be great to see this as a CRL too. Quote

Nairy[Staff] Posted November 11, 2022 Report Posted November 11, 2022 I'm not sure this is the right thread, but I asked David Berry who worked on the production of A New Hope at ILM for any information regarding the spacetrooper backpack. I got this answerSorry, I am afraid that I do not have any information on this. ILM did not manufacture any of the costumes for the first Star Wars film. If I were to guess, it would've been the English crew working from concepts based on Ralph McQuarrie's designs (or maybe Joe Johnston), but putting their own spin on the final design. But again, that is a guess, what do I know, that was a long, long time ago...Cheers, DaveB It is not any news per se but I'll keep on digging! Quote
Daetrin[Admin] Posted November 11, 2022 Author Report Posted November 11, 2022 I have a hard copy of the below which was chock full of historical information, and well worth the hard cover admission price (you can find them used for $28 or so). https://smile.amazon.com/Making-Star-Wars-Definitive-Original/dp/0345494768/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=making+of+star+wars+book&qid=1668180429&sprefix=making+of+star+%2Caps%2C153&sr=8-1&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted November 11, 2022 Report Posted November 11, 2022 Some additional info and versions of the space pack Different versions of the space pack exist, there was a poll in 2010 in regards to the earlier design and what versions it would be added too. CRL had been updated a few times to now have the @crookknights Hot Toys pack version. Poll which packs which CRL's 2010 Figure 1 Legacy Collection Movie Hand plates on wrong hands, if he was the only space trooper then it's canon First approved movie pack member John Danter Figure two John's updated pack. Figure Hot Toys 2 ear screws, 3 bumps on ear, 4 rivets on belt holster Crookknights Space Pack Build I'll have to do another big gun build at some stage, double sights too, must be for if you are left or right handed From one of the behind the scenes groups. Some interesting info 2 Quote

Nairy[Staff] Posted November 11, 2022 Report Posted November 11, 2022 Amazing @gmrhodes13 Where is the proof that Joe Johnston is wearing two right glove plates? The only thing I've seen is one right plate on the left glove, you kind of don't see what kind of a plate the right glove has! Quote

We are limited as to what reference were available from back then, not like these days, I guess someone believed the other handplate was a right one being a right handed glove, who knows, without further references we may never know. Just a quick FYI.. Shawn (CrookKnight) sold all his files and designs for HWT, Sandie, Space packs etc. to Dave at AM a few years ago. Dave is now making all of them. The outside design is pretty straightforward, but the insert tube is open to interpretation. Since no one will ever see it you can take some "artistic license" and have a bit of fun. I used all kinds of odd bits and bobs in mine: Yes I'm aware, I purchased a set of spacepack files from Crookknight before he sold everything Nice work on the internals, I may add some lights and sound to mine, once I get to it again, it's on the never ending list. Ox Props also does a space pack from ANH and also a Rogue One version. His to me looks to be spaced a little better, width as well as height of the cylinders. ANH Rogue One 2 Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted November 11, 2022 Report Posted November 11, 2022 For anyone interested here is a comparison of the files 3 Quote

Daetrin[Admin] Posted November 12, 2022 Author Report Posted November 12, 2022 OX Props looks great, but he doesn't make the actual parts, which crookknight does. So, unless someone is willing to print/build a pack from OX Props, the rest of us our SOL in that regard. In the end though, it's great to see these getting some love. I remember the first space pack I bought that was very crude but worked, much like back 15 years ago as a sandtrooper we had to make our packs out of items we found in Good Will and Walmart, even making our own frames from PVC as there were no suppliers on anything.
