grungie_42 Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Hey guys, I draw your attention to my first piece of my stormtrooping dreams....the boots! I followed online tut's to get this far and I'm pretty happy with the results, but how can I get the canvas style elastic binding to be completly white? not the stitching, the part that looks like the letter U on the side of the boots. Any suggestions? let me know, cheers. dave. www.thepassouts.com www.myspace.com/thepassouts Quote
TK-2126_MD[TK] Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Leia looks inpressed! Boots look good, how about u give us your take on the boots ( what u did). This was other can profit from one one tut! I like it i got mine like that and then add clear shoe polish, then let is get scuffed up from trooping, only to clean then and polish them when they start to go more TD then TK Quote
SuperTrooper Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 You can use thinned down white craft paint. That's what I used on a friends boots and it worked well. Just give it plenty of time to dry. Quote

This was other can profit from one one tut! I like it i got mine like that and then add clear shoe polish, then let is get scuffed up from trooping, only to clean then and polish them when they start to go more TD then TK Here's what I used for this job: The tape, metho, and the two types of paint. (about 15 bucks each) I started out with the brown fabiani's shown here: I used the metho to clean them up. I used the Gordan Ramsy cookwear bag as my rag, but you can use anything oh and I drank some tasty cotties cordial, but a corona with lemon would have been better Then taped them up. I had trouble getting the tape to stick down completly, I think I bought crappy tape, it wasn't very strong. But I kept on. I did the two layers of silver, reminded me of the days I played the tinman in high school, lol. Oh and it helps if you have a silver bar stool to display them at this stage, if you don't have one, any old bar stool will do Here they are....drying....waiting.....I used the rest of the can of white on the boots, 3 coats in total, and the two under coats of silver. When I took the tape off, the paint had obviously bled all over the place, but I asked my local garrison forum for help, and the Judge let me know of this magic liquid called ACETONE, it done the job, and got them to be nice and clean(just keep it away from the actual boots or it'll take the paint off there too!) And then here's the finished product! hope you like the pics, rock on! Dave. Quote

troopermaster Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 I use DYLON fabric paint. Works great! Quote
SupaTrooper Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Spraying your non-black boots is best for that even clean finish and then top it off with some clear gloss. RedaV's Method in its Madness 1: Prepared the boots with a product called Septone - Wax & Grease Remover you can get it from car accessory shop, then wipe them over with Mentholated Spirits 2: Masted up the soul with masking tape, also the pull tabs 3: Sprayed 3 light coats of Silver Leather paint (from shop repair shop) 4: Sprayed 3 light coats of White leather paint (as bove) 5: Remove tape from the sole 6: Sprayed 3 light coats of Extra Gloss over boot & soal (as bove) Wait till dry then wear! no flaking or cracking Instant CABoots, good luck (note:wear your new boots in before spraying) Quote
