sweeneyb Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 (edited) I was wondering if this is a good helmet to buy if I am planning on being a stormtrooper commander? ---------- Edited February 5, 2021 by gmrhodes13 link not working, removed gmrhodes13 2021 Quote
bluehickey Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Eeeek! Looks like a repainted Rubies helmet... stay away! Quote
Dmian Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Stay away from eBay! (can't say this enough.) Quote
sweeneyb Posted August 14, 2009 Author Report Posted August 14, 2009 Is the master replica stormtrooper helmet good for trooping and 501st approved? Quote
Terry19D Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Yep, the Master Replicas Collectors Edition (MRCE) helmet is a popular choice because of its price and availability, and with a little work it's Legion approved. There are lots of threads around here detailing how others have made all these required changes (and more) to their MRCE helmets, and they are a good alternative to the FX helmet. Quote
TK-2126_MD[TK] Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 But there are others, dont jump the gun and get a helmet because the price seems right, do some research on helmets, at the end it will save u money. Cheap=expensive in the long run. Research means knowing what to get and how much its really worth. Quote

sweeneyb Posted August 14, 2009 Author Report Posted August 14, 2009 (edited) Has this been modified and good to go? ----------- Edited February 5, 2021 by gmrhodes13 link not working, removed gmrhodes13 2021 Quote
89Batman[TK] Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Doesn't look as if it has been modded to me. There is alot of work in making one of these the best it can be, changing the ears, filling the gaps adding new lenses etc sometimes, as already has been said, cheap isn't always the cheapest in the long run. Sgt JB Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 I agree, look around the For Sale area, you'll find much higher quailty lids. may be more $, but you'll save yourself a headache in the end. Quote
Dmian Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Buy a good helmet, cry once. Buy a cheap helmet, cry many times... Quote
R2Dan[TK] Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Oh! That's one of the "Jay Leno" lids! I thought those had disappeared again - always fun to see Yeah, stay away from that, it really won't make you happy Quote
TK 6918[501st] Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Stop looking on ebay. Go research the differences in armor. By the time you understand the difference and can pick one that meets your needs, you will have all the info you need to get what you want. Quote
Merugear Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Buying helmets on eBay leads to the dark side... mainly the side where you hit yourself in the face cos you bought a crappy helmet for too much money. Just stroll around the forums a bit to see what is acceptable or not. Quote

Ironclaw Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 I bought my armor on ebay, standard FX... guess I was lucky not getting rubies, or recast stuff. Quote
Dmian Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 I bought my armor on ebay, standard FX... guess I was lucky not getting rubies, or recast stuff. There are legit sellers on eBay. Even FISD members from time to time sell good armor on the site. The problem is that, for the novice hobbyist, it's difficult to tell a good armor from a piece of rubbish, specially when they see the claim that it's "authentic", "501st approved", etc. So, novice troopers should refrain from buying on eBay until they can tell a good cast from a crappy recast (or worse,) or know if the seller has a good reputation within the community. I was as novice as one could get . I had no idea exactly how one should look, but the display picture looked pretty so I bought it Like I said, I was very lucky And yeah, no one should buy anything on ebay unless you really know what you are buying.
