Ok, I bumped into Trooper Tailor in my local Walmart, on my way to buy duck cloth/canvas to make myself a belt. He told me that Matt, aka TE said the belts were actually made out of 3" webbing. TE2 also supposedly uses webbing on some of his costumes.

Can anyone confirm this or deny this? I don't wan't to make a belt out of webbing if its going to turn me down for my elite status. And if it is confirmed that webbing was used, then lets change the requirements for the sake of accuracy? B)

After a few searches I found this:

Well, time for one last reveal folks.

While at the archives doing some work for LFL this last summer I was able to find some ANH stormtrooper suits they did not know they had. I was able to see the strapping, and also the belts. Cool stuff, but paper thin. It is not the .080 AA claims was used. It is .060 and not the color AA claims it was (Surprised? Me neither.)

So I can say I can tell you 100% what the belts are as I actually touched the stupid things and the archivists agreed 100% on the material...

Drum roll..... salute

CANVAS

So there you have it. I cannot commnet on the interior strapping, nor can I draw you a diagram and I am sorry about that. Use this info above to assist you in making your suits even better. No, it is not leather as some beleive it to be. 100% cut and stacked and sewn canvas.

Enjoy.. (Another fine bit of information brought to you by TE.. when in doubt, toss it out. Like all the AA crap)

Now I got conflicting information that is both supposedly from TE

The belts were canvas. There is a still of Luke on the death star that show it in great detail. I thought I had the picture but I don't.

ROTJ stormtroopers had webbing belts, but the ANH and ESB were definately 100% canvas.

If your looking to make one, try and find denim canvas at your local fabric store. There are other types of canvas available, but I believe that denim is the closest to the originals. A small strip of velcro keeps the belt closed at the rear.
