I think that I speak for most people when I say that this is a hobby.

Hobbies are supposed to be fun, Gino takes the fun out of the hobby for me. He hoardes information in an effort to elevate himself to some kind of divine status. He savagely attacks others like me, Sithlord, TE, TM, GH etc in relentless smear campaigns.

TE found an original helmet, which trust me is no easy feat, nor is it cheap, and took moulds, without this Gino would have nothing, then surprise surprise the deal went sour with TE.

Gino lies about the origins of his Darth Vader helmets and is constantly adding details when others make discoveries with regards to accuracy.

What would we lose by not having the company of this aggressive, nasty little piece of work? There are others with equally if not better knowledge of Stormtroopers and Vaders, such as Jez Hill aka 'Bingbongo'

I am fed up of the constant attacks, it is ruining what should be a fun hobby.

Hey Joe, What do you contribute to the hobby?

Gino is extremely knowledgeable and he shares what he wishes with whom he wishes. I think thats his right isnt it? He doesnt come across nice online and thats no secret. But then, you dont seem to come off well either. I think "Gayno" which you used as a replacement for "Gino" in the other thread demonstrates to me that you have the sophistication of a 3rd grader.

His "smear campaigns" have all been with right and cause. I think you'll find few people who think TE, Sithlord, and GH needed any "smearing" As for TM, I think there is little doubt he recasted a helmet. So thats not smearing. At the very least there is room for debate which Gino started. And for yourself, I dont agree with the strong reaction he had to your ROTJ helmet. I think that stemed from a deal gone sour between yourselves and I cannnot say for sure but I think you were trying to cast your ROTJ helmet and sell them. I think he had a right to be slightly wary that you really were selling the real deal when you posted such.

So will you share with me? Will you sell me casts of your helmet or tell me all the intimate secret details and history of it? Or would I have to accuse you of "hoarding"

Gino might be a little full of himself and come across very arrogant but his threads do make for interesting reading. He brings out the worst in most of us because he touches nerves that kind of make you think that he may be right, even if you dont want him to be. This is what gets him so riled up and just makes him come across even more arrogant.

The comments he made about the 501st, sick kids and all that crap, while probably not the best thing to do on a 501st forum might actually apply to many people. Me being one of them. Yes, being able to make a sick kid happy is part of what we do, for many its the be all and end all but for some it is a legitimate platform to 'play dress up' as he puts it, in stormtrooper armour and to take it further, I wear accurate armour for me, purely selfish reasons to boost my own ego becuase I know those kids dont know the difference so I say, fair play, fair comment, you got me bang to rights and I dont deny it. I know this doesnt apply to everyone and GINO has a knack of tarring us all with the same brush but there it is, he was right in my case.

What does he contribute to the 501st? nothing at all.

what does he contribute to the prop community? more than 90% of the people on this forum have I shouldnt wonder.

Am I a Gino supporter? not really but I'm certainly not going to kid myself into thinking that a lot of his points arent valid regardless of how he puts it across.

GINO, TE and all the other armour 'Gods' as they like to paint themselves may be too much personality and ego for some to handle but they have contributed a great deal to this hobby.

He's banned now anyway so a fairly pointless thread really.

And for the record GINO makes me mad as hell most of the time and I feel myself getting keyboard rage whenever i read threads started by him or involving him. He is unshakable. He never backs down. He doesnt mince his words .You've got to give him that at least.

If GINO is no longer a member here & not a position to defend himself then why is this thread here?

& yes I am a supporter of "in the absence of any person being able to deffend themself's, then it's an unfair attack"

as for the hobby being fun, I find it's whatever you make of it. :)

My enlish is not the best so i prefer to read the post and not write ones.

But i want to say my point of view.

This discussion of recasting is so stupid and that some people which are all older than 15 year's are so ugly to each other make me feel realy sad.

I mean this is a hobby or not?

I understand the point of view from Gino that he maybe is pissed of that people recast his parts.

But, have he a licence at his parts he make? No.

And if Georg are not would be so little nice guy, he would let all of the Propmakers speak with his counsellors.

Because they all make " Star Wars Helmet's or Armors" without any licence.

So each armor is a recast from anything.

If someone would hold a original Armor in his Hands and would make a copy from it , he would be a "dirty" recaster?

I think no, rather the people would call this one and ask for one of it.

I like the Gino's Trooperhelmets they look nice, but that he make so a big trouble, because some maybe had make a copy of his helmet's is kiddy.

He should be proud that the one maybe decide to make a copy of his ones and not from onther ones.

So what , it's a hobby.

And look at the great Armors you can get.

Thanks to all Propmakers which make this great armors, because without you, this nice hobby would not be as it is.

Ok guys, this thread isn't about recasting and I'm going to allow it for the moment. Keep it clean everyone.

It's "recast", not "recasted"

the past tense of "recast" is "recast"

Please stop saying "recasted"

Smitty's list of things he thinks Gino contributes to the hobby:

1. A good amount of knowlege

2. a seasoned eye

3. much much drama

4. the most unadulterated TK you can find

While I think Gino has some issues regarding human interraction, I respect his opinions and expertise. I am not happy that he is gone.

More often than not, how you say something is at least as important as what you say, at least that's what my wife tells me. :P

Gino is a wealth of knowledge and one of the pioneers in this hobby, however he comes across as a completely insufferable a very impolite person. Even a prophet would be tarred and feathered if he/she arrived with the "I'm here to educate you ignorant, unworthy masses. Maybe if you take EVERYTHING I say as the Living Gospel, you might one day be worthy of the crumbs that fall off my dinner table." True, Gino is no longer here to defend himself, but his condescending attitude is completely indefensible.

One of the comments you consistently hear from newcomers to the FISD is how friendly and helpful the members here, not at all like so many other forums out there. What VaderDave and TK9135 did at the beginning of the year only adds emphasis to the feeling of community that I love about the FISD and 501st Legion. Gino (and TE for that matter), despite their wealth of knowledge and experience, tended to trash that very sense of community. For what, their own amusement? They could both do so much good, yet instead of using their knowledge as an open hand, they use it like a closed fist. The fact that Gino has the balls to mock what we do in the 501st, ON A 501ST FORUM NO LESS, absolutely makes my blood boil. He certainly would not put up with that kind of bulls*** on his forum. If someone decided to come into my home, watch my TV, and eat at my dinner table, all the while bitching about how bad my food is, how the decor sucks, how I'm an honorless scumbag, I'd escort him out at gunpoint.

If I want to take advantage of Gino's knowledge, I'll go to his website or join his prop forum. He has some fantastic props and displays, best out there IMHO. But as far as his presence here and his "Ha, Ha, my toys are better than your toys" attitude, I say good riddance.

+1

..more importantly, what does a thread like this contribute?

That's great that he's full of knowledge but does that excuse his actions?

I haven't seen much from him in my time doing research here that wasn't at some point either condescending or rude in almost every communication. He deserved being thrown out on his tucus a long time ago.

I see alot of people thinking that Gino has a poor community attitude. Thats true to some degree. He is not really a team player when it comes to sharing with everyone. But few people seem to know that there is a reason for that.

Its not just that he disagrees with what most costumers think of the hobby. It stems from a long bad history of the way some people think of armor vs what he thinks.

Gino and his partner actually bought the armor moulds guys. TE owned the original helmet and armor and his friend actually made the moulds, not TE. Gino and his partner purchased the original moulds and the sole rights to produce parts from them. Shortly after that it was discovered that TE had double dealt and had sold GF a set of armor and helmet and also the rights to cast them and sell copies.

GF and Gino didnt know the other had been sold the rights to produce. They did not become enemies. They acted like adults and I bet some of your here have owned some GF armor at some point. These moulds would later be sold to AP and they still produce amor today. All during this time TE is still selling helmets and armor to people.

Jump ahead a few years and TE sells another set of moulds to TE2 with the rights to produce armor. And now it appears that TE has given the moulds and rights to Dan Laws would I think will be producing armor in the future.

So can anyone understand why Gino might be a bit upset? He owns the rights to the original moulds and paid good money for them. Then all of a sudden there are all these other people that TE screwed making armor left and right. These people are egged on by costumers mostly and I understand. They are the people making cool things for the masses. I totally get that they would be supported. But even after Gino might have given up the idea that anyone would pay attention to what his story was, there comes the constant "You dont make anything for anyone and thats not cool" attitude from people.

I get that as well. I've been there. I started out in this hobby only a few years ago and TE was my trooper god. Gino frustrated and upset me. The way he posts still annoys me sometimes. But I understand his reasons for thinking what he does. And I understand why he wouldnt want to sell many of his helmets. What does he have to gain by it? There are a bunch of people he doesnt like saying "make us nice things" and if he ever did you can bet WeiBs trooper and such like him would be right there to recast it.

So maybe before you guys judge and form your "well he has no rights to it anymore than anyone else" you should do some research.

Perfectly said. If he hasn't been banned on the RPF too despite his arrogance, trolling behaviour, unsupported claims and lack of objectivity, is because maybe they NEED him to be there, they WANT him to be there.

Normally if you want to talk to the Oracle you must climb the mountain, here the Oracle walks in the marketplace praising himself and his knowledge.

If you start doing research by yourself, looking for some different sources of knowledge, start making your own tests and thinking with your own mind, double-check everything it's been told you, maybe when the guy is rendered useless or secluded in his ivory tower he'll cease to be a threat and an arrogant.

Chance is that he we want to join his forum to take advantage of his knowledge he won't let us in :P

Keegan, nice post of one side of the mold story, we have armor history threads for each side of the story. Unfortunately the masses will never know absolute truth as there are too many versions and each has it's own choir singing that theirs is correct.

I feel this thread like so many others popping up is going in the wrong direction.
