johnnymac Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Enjoy... I tried to get them as clear as possible, but it was kind of hard since they are so old. Quote
Smitty Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Whats up with those pics? I dont recognize the back grounds from anything in the movies or the old guy in the second photo. Awesome find! Quote
Murray1134[501st] Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 They are from the Holiday Special. What you don't see is how the TK was holding the E-11 by the magazine. Quote

Lol, I knew that it looked weird!!! I have the much beloved "Holiday Special" on DVD. It is absolutely terrible. But, it is entertaining. I wonder if anyone would want a copy of it. Quote

Star Wars Helmets Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 I've never seen it and I never want to. I hear its like watching your parents make out Cheers Jez Quote

My 7 year old boy and I watched the whole thing on YouTube (Click here for Part I) and he couldn't get over the "dorky" way the TK's looked wielding the blasters like that. *WARNING for the uninitiated* The filler musical numbers are trippy! troopermaster Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 I've never seen it and I never want to. I hear its like watching your parents make out It's not that good Jez I bought it a few years ago, strictly for the trooper suits, the rest is total garbage! I got the Star Wars Donny and Marie show for the same thing. Real screen used suits, I just wish the picture quality was better. Quote
johnnymac Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Posted January 11, 2009 I haven't seen the one on You Tube. I bought mine on the internet years ago. The person that put it together also included some of the commercials that were aired during the Special. There's even a commercial where C3PO catches R2 smoking a cigarette... hillarious. I also recall a commercial for the Kenner action figures. Quote
Murray1134[501st] Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 I've never seen it! I'd love to have a copy Cool pics by the way It's worse than you can possibly imagine. 2 words sum it up very nicely... Wookiee Porn. Bad makeup, questionable sets, Bea Arthur and Harvey Korman singing, Carrie Fisher obviously very high on something or another. It is noteworthy because of the unused ANH Vader footage, the involvement of the whole ANH cast, Ralph McQuarrie designs, and a few others. To quote a teacher of mine the producers "snatched defeat from the jaws of success" I have it on DVD and have watched it several times. I highly recommend the Rifftrax commentary. Quote

Paul Donny & Marie Special!!!, now you're talking mate A million times better than the Holiday special....you've got to love the 'Femme Troopers' in the german helmets, and what a stroke of genius to cast Kris Kristofferson as Han ....."getting ready 'coz here I come"......pure classic Quote
dougefresh Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Smitty, the old guy's Art Carney. He was Norton on "The Honeymooners". Oh man... I *vaguely* remember seeing this, and have "better" recollection of the equally unholy Ewok Adventure when I was a little kid. Sometimes, late at night, when I'm at my most lonely and vulnerable, I see these images dancing in front of my eyes, accompanied by the screeching, nightmarish strains of "What Can You Get A Wookie For Christmas (When He Already Owns A Comb?)" Even as a wee tyke, I knew I had just witnessed something deeply, profoundly WRONG. I felt like Anne Frank-- watching as my childhood was systematically ripped away and defiled under the jackboots of unmitigated, insensate evil. Why, George? Why? Yuck. I need a shower. Quote

From what I've read, Lucas says that he had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the Holiday Special. -Yeah right.... When you see Bea Arthur singing lyrics to the "Cantina" song, you'll never again be the same person. Quote
dougefresh Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 Lord knows I've got a lot of love for Mr. Lucas, but that dude's the KING of revisionist history. But I suppose he's entitled to, being that everyone's opinions and memories change over time. I have trouble even conceptualizing Bea Arthur and singing in the same thought, let alone Bea Arthur singing Star Wars music. The mind reels. I can't imagine John Williams was too happy about having his composition bleated out by the frighteningly mannish Golden Girl either. Seriously -- I think I saw an Adam's Apple the size of a baseball. Who's that broad think "she's" kidding? Quote

abubacar Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 In regard to the holiday special, i downloaded it once but couldn't ever watch it. Doesn't Boba Fett like hand out christmas presents? Quote
TK8776 jgarrettg Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Boba was in a cartoon segment. The only present was an anti viral agent for the Talisman virus. Kinda funny. Check out the segment: Boba Christmas Special segment 1st time I've seen it since 1978. Check out 3PO's neck. gasp! Quote
Daetrin[Admin] Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Alas, not everything ages well. Land of the Lost being another (though Speed Racer, Zoom and Schoolhouse Rock still look great ). Quote
littledragon88[TK] Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 I saw the Holiday Special with a projector with a couple of friends OUTSIDE the cinema while camping for tickets for Revenge of the Sith. That was quite an experience, and you guys should have seen the faces of people walking by us when they they saw what was showing on the screen. Two things are worth to be seen in the Holiday Special IMO, the two original ANH stormtroopers (with hero-helmets), and the Boba Fett cartoon. It's interesting with the TK armor though, and I wonder what happened to one of them after filming, as the film clearly shows the stuntman doing a flip with the armor from a height. That armor must have been scrapped after shooting I assume..or undamaged parts may have been reused later on for instance in ESB. I actually think it looks cool the way the trooper holds the gun, although we never see them holding the blaster like that in the movies. The sterling machine gun after all, was meant to be held by the magazine, like the Sten gun. Quote

Trooper Peter[501st] Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 Looks like the actor in this Stormtrooper suit has got a much bigger waist the extras in the movie. Looks like its ripping apart! Quote
troopermaster Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 The only problem is the way the armour is worn. The belt is not connected to the abdomen so it sits too low and it's not fastened tight enough, making the armour look loose. Both actors in the holiday special wore their armour badly for some reason? Quote
rapstertee Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 Despite the hilarity and wrongness of it all, I have to say Ireally liked the design and animatronics of Itchy's face. His lower jaw and moving forehead are far better than Chewies was, and he seems to have a lot more expression. I'm sure good ole Ralph McQ and Stuart Freeborn were behind this. Quote

That is, until you see him gyrating to a video of Diahann Carroll However, Bea Arthur dancing with Greedo is something I can finally cross off my "101 Awesome Things to See Before I Die" list Quote
