Hi All,

I'm Mark from Leicester, England.

I was gifted a Stormtrooper a couple weeks back by a good friend who bought him 9 years ago - he's moving to the Lake District and can't take him along.

His name is Keith.

Sadly Keith spent most of his 9 years on a mannequin in a conservatory being poisoned by UV, and is now very discoloured and VERY brittle.

Still, he puts a massive grin on my face every time I see him stood in my office!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum, nice score.

I've had soe success with UV stained armor with Retr0bright https://www.retr0bright.com/  https://www.retr0bright.com/make.html

Thanks for the tips.

But I'm not sure if I want him 'jaded' like this because I'm going to paint him red where correct as a Shock Trooper. I'm going for 'distressed' paint, and it might look better against discoloration rather than pristine white.

It's a dilemma!

Hello Mark, and welcome to the forum! :salute: Thanks for sharing the picture, you're probably very productive in your office now that you have a Stormtrooper making sure that you're working? :laugh1: Must feel awesome!

He sure doesn't let me slack!

Welcome Mark.

Are you planning on wearing the costume, or will you just keep it on the mannequin?

I intend to wear it just once - it's ALL so very brittle - I intend to ride my motorcycle wearing the armour just once, on private land. But I'm painting him Shock Trooper style, and I've been 400 grit sanding all the places I need to paint...

Hmmmm. I was going to add another photo, but it seems my one photo has used all my attachment quota...

After a few years in a conservatory I suspect this suit is probably best left on a mannequin.

If you want to whiten Keith back up there's some options for a display item, but that amount of UV damage is a one way trip.

We have some pretty strict limits on files as they are quite expensive to host and then serve.

Most members use imgur to post images from at the moment.

We have a guide here if needed:

Great. Imgur App on my Android 'phone - works dead easy. Thanks.

So the picture above is what I'm using to reference the paint scheme I'm doing, but I can't see if there are supposed to be red stripes on the outsides of the thigh armour, like there are on the bicep armour.

Does anyone know please?

Cheers!

Your ability to move, see, and certainly sit will be significantly encumbered wearing the armor. I wouldn't recommend wearing it on any conveyance, especially a motorcycle. The armor was never really developed to a level that permitted much freedom of movement unfortunately.

I love the name Keith. That's really cool that you want to refurbish him. I wish I had some tips but all the armor I've worked with is fairly new
