planktonimore
Hello there! I’m working on a stormtrooper kit from anovos that I bought local from someone. They never got around to building it so I got it for a bargain. I have been following ukswrath’s anovos build thread which has been very helpful and so far I’m happy with how it’s turning out. I’m used to EVA foam so abs is a little different. I’m on to the legs and I’m finding them to be a bit loose and jangly so I dont know if I should trim them more and re glue or just trim the top down so they can sit higher. I’m a bit skinnier than a screen accurate actor, 5’10 150 lbs. Any skinny troopers with advice? Any other advice also welcome of course, here are some pictures of how the armor currently sits.
gmrhodes13[Staff]
Some great threads for those of a thinner shorter stature https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/38416-crickets-rs-stunt-build-for-the-vertically-challenged/ https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/38842-fragarocks-rs-stunt-build-not-to-scale/ https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/42868-sha-shas-wtf-anh-stunt-build-complete/ I'm 6' but very skinny so I tried to keep the kit at a regular size (about the same seen on screen) but added foam in a lot of areas, I have a block of foam in the fronts and sides of the thighs, forearms and biceps, as well as quite a big piece of foam behind the abdomen, this was being squashed in on the sides when the belt was tightened, adding the foam stopped the belt from pulling too much. Thighs do look a little wide so you may want to trim those down a little, really depends on how they have glued it, hopefully E6000 which would make it easier to come apart with a little pressure. A nice How To for armor fitment
Nairy[Staff]
Great job so far Asher! Some foam and tape could do wonders for how it sits on the body! The links that Glen posted are awesome!

I would personally just tape it in! It doesn't need to be super permanent I don't think!
Chemi[Staff]
Hi Asher! The armor looks great! I'd lower the forearms a bit too, that way you avoid looking like you washed the armor in hot water, lol. Just kidding (this will give you more room to move at your elbows). planktonimore
I see. and when you say foam do you mean like eva or like sponge/pillow foam?

planktonimore
Cool. I have some green foam I can color black with a marker or something. After the new cuts are done gluing I can foam them up. Just fitting my shins after elastic glue dried and it looks like they are already skinny enough so as to not look out of place with thighs but only time will tell. Side note, how do these boots look? will they be approvable?
gmrhodes13[Staff]
You may find you won't have to color your foam, can't really be seen from the outside, well depending where you add it Looks like your boots have an extra panel, I would check with your GML (garrison membership liaison) as he/she/they are the ones looking after your costume approval. Reference of boots Boots Boots are above ankle height and made of white leather or leather-like material. Small U-shaped elastic sections on both sides of the ankle. Flat sole with a short heel. No buckles or laces. Jodhpur/ Chelsea-type boots or an equivalent style is acceptable. Elvis or Mariachi boots are not allowed. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): There is no seam present on the front of the boot. Boots have a black sole
Nairy[Staff]
Yeah I wouldn't color the foam either! The color could bleed out if you put pressure on the foam, and mixed with sweat, it just feels like a recipe for something not so nice! You never really need to put foam in a place where it can be seen anyways, and on top of that, the armor sits tight enough to the body that it will be very hard for it to be visible! Regarding the boots, if you are aiming for Expert Infantry/Centurion, then the boots need replacing! The shins look great on you!

Btw, I think one of the reasons it looks like you could do with putting the forearms a bit further down, is because your handplates are far down on the glove itself! I would start with trying to reposition the hand plates further up the glove! The arrows in my image just indicate the direction I'd move them, not any exact position!
planktonimore
Got it, no coloring the foam! If those boots are good enough for basic approval, that will be enough for now and I can replace them later on when I go for high levels. It seems the only boots anywhere that have no seams are keep trooping boots so I’ll try to snag some next time they are selling. I noticed the hand plates too and am working on moving them. Luckily they are currently just held on with velcro and elastic straps so I can move them easily. Thanks guys for your help! I shall post updates soon.
planktonimore
Okay so the thighs are trimmed and re glued. It looks like the fitment is MUCH better!
JBar[TK]
That looks so much better! Getting those thighs fitted was a bulk of the work. If you want you could make an speaker holder like I did under the ab armor. I just headed some extra ABS plastic and glued it to shape and into place. That plus some foam will fill in some space as well as it will press against your stomach a bit.
planktonimore Posted yesterday at 07:23 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 07:23 AM The speaker in the abdomen is a great Idea! I might use that. The costume is all completed and everything is fitting great. I got approved a few days ago and am now officially a member of the Dune Sea Garrison!
