JBar[TK] Posted September 11 Report Posted September 11 Do you have bicep hooks installed yet? That should help keep your biceps in place. I also like to use extra strong elastic (not the regular Joannes stuff) in the shoulder bells and attach them to the underside snaps that are close to my neck as you can see here This gives some strong pull to the shoulder bells so they don't slip down as easily. That and also overlapping my white shoulder straps to reinforce them from sagging. I know it's just a dry fit so I'm sure there's a lot of tweaking to do but are you able to close the gap of your right thigh and shin a big more too? Maybe by dropping down your thighs just a bit or using velcro to keep the shins slightly higher. Looks like you're really close and I think it's gonna look really great once completed! 1 Quote
JBar[TK] Posted September 11 Report Posted September 11 For bicep hooks instead of shaped ABS I really like these instead I cut them with a rotary tool and shaped/glued them into place. They are much more strong as metal 1 Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted September 11 Report Posted September 11 I would drop your thighs a little. Also looks like your sniper plate is angled backwards and getting stuck under your thigh, depends how it is glued but sometimes you can add foam behind to help push it forward. You have a big gap between the chest and shoulders, also looks too high on your left side. Bicep is just poking out you may want to increase the gap at the elbows which would allow the biceps to come up a little. Belt needs to come up a little and be straight Note the shoulder/chest gaps Chest is sitting too low at the front, shoulder straps should be glued at the front, also need to go over the backplate. You have quite a gap on your sides, you could add a shim between the ab/kidney. Knee ammo strip appears to have the wrong rivet, should be a cap rivet not a pop rivet, also needs to be painted white. You have excess material on the belt you could trim. Detonator could come down a little more on the belt, also rotate so we can see the O detail. Here you can see how hight the shoulder bell is. Also a big gap at your neck, you may want to try to reduce the padding in your helmet. 1 Quote
mfiscus[TK] Posted September 12 Author Report Posted September 12 (edited) In the home stretch, submitting my application to the 501st Great Lakes Garrison. Working on the adjustments pointed out by gmrhodes13, thank you. Should have those done today. I know there will still be a few tweaks (and a new belt), but next up is a voice box. Completed after last suit up. New rivets and painted white Shoulder straps glued in Chest plate inside strapping adjusted, tighter Thigh strapping adjusted down Padding added to knee plate Pad removed from helmet Need to do: Reshape bicep to be more round, better fit under shoulder Trim Shoulders back a little Shims for sides for less gap Waiting on belt piece to finish belt. mfiscus[TK] Posted September 12 Author Report Posted September 12 Added the bicep hooks to my list. Started adding some inner support strips as well. Once I get all the recommendations completed I will try another fitting. Still a little concerned about one section, the inside left thigh section. It's a bit thin and rough on the surface at the top. The rest of the parts are pretty consistent. Should I reinforce it from the back or try and replace it? It's only about the top 4 inches, but more noticeable to me as I wrap this first kit up. I wouldn't think it would hurt my approval process, but not sure how well it will hold up over time. Quote

Personally I would ask WTF for a replacement, this type of bubbling/orange peel is usually from too much heat in the vac form process, some other WFT builds have had similar issues with other parts of the armor. If you don't get a replacement it may be a good idea to add some stiffening behind, just in case, the thigs can hit your cod when bending and moving. 1 Quote

Only other thing I would suggest is use the right background, your GWL will thank you for it when it comes to editing your images (also if you want to apply for Expert Infantry as I edit those images ) 1 Quote
mfiscus[TK] Posted September 13 Author Report Posted September 13 I did bring it up with Walt and he said it was the nature of the beast, I will directly ask about a replacement from him. I think if I purchase a new piece elsewhere, I could have fitting or color issues. I thought of coating the back side with fiberglass resin (with just the resin), but that won't address the outer surface. Worried about discoloration down the line and how it would look on TV, I do a fair amount of tv news interviews for the foundation I'm involved with. Aside from a few webbing issues I could sand and fill, the kit is pretty nice. For now, I will not put in any internal strips to reinforce and plan to replace this section later. Glad Michael Rose talked me into E6000! On the background issue, I'll have to get back in the driveway or garage for the next round of photos, not many clear walls inside. Quote
JBar[TK] Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 That's definitely a "B pull" quality. I would push for a replacement too. Walt will be you best bet for a color match but it's never guaranteed. ABS sheeting colors vary batch from batch. I don't think it will be anything that will be noticeable by the public so you should be fine but I do think it warrants a replacement Quote
