Alex Stafford (TK-92217) joined the 501st in October 2018, and became an invaluable member of the 70th Explorers Garrison. They first met Alex via his charitable efforts with Sabers4Hope at St Louis Children's Hospital giving out lightsabers to patients. Back then, he had battled cancer and was wanting to give back to the kids who were suffering from cancer as well. The 70th Explorers Garrison helped bring him into the fold as a TK, and his wife joined the Mando Mercs after as well.

Alex was always willing to help with charitable walks and activities, making every effort he could to give back. Eventually, Alex came out of remission and resumed his battle once again for a few years. When he could put his armor on, though it was a struggle, he always kept a smile on his face.

Thank you Trooper, for your hard work, dedication, and for lending a loving hand to those in need.

On 30 November 2022, Southern Cross Garrison Member Dean Miller (DZ-13184) passed away.

As Dean joins the Hall of Eternal Legionnaires, we celebrate his life, his passion for Star Wars, the energy and enthusiasm he brought with every troop, even in the face of illness. We remember his warmth, and ease of friendship that he extended to others. Dean volunteered at Taronga Zoo and the Reptile Park, enjoyed a multitude of fandoms and communities.
Dean was laid to rest on the 8th of December, surrounded by family, friends and loved ones.

A brief on the Detachment plan for 2023

We always like to start the new term with a bang, so be prepared to see a new section of the forums coming in the very near future.

We aim to please but also to make sure we involve all our members. Discussion of a new ladies section is no secret, and we are making good on bringing this full circle with its own section of the FISD forums. Come and help Teresa (Soulart) make this a new friendly and safe home for all our female TK's and make it your own. This new section is opening soon.

More competitions, first off will be a design competition (members only), and a chance to leave a mark on the face of the FISD forums, keep your eyes open for that.

There is some revamping going to take place and expansion on areas where technology is improving and times changing.

We look forward to adding a section for 3D resin printers, these are becoming very popular with brilliant results and we want those with experience to share their knowledge, files and services right here on FISD.

The replica section is also undertaking a minor tweak to include First Order TK's. If you are OCD and love those fine details and magic finds, you will have a place to post your intimate armour details inside and out. It amazes me we still find hidden gems on OT bits and pieces so I look forward to more with the newer generation stuff.

Who wants merch!!, we are already working up ideas for this years items, so keep an eye on the forums for interest threads, competitions and more.

More CRL work to come, not only are we looking to add more goodies to current CRL's but the entire legion is preparing to move to an updated CRL Platform.

This will be a monumental task for every detachment and needs to be totally complete by October when the old platform will no longer be supported by the vendor.

The hopes are for new look CRL's with added features to possibly make it easier to create and use all CRL's. New functionality is also on the agenda.

Are you preparing for The 1500! more to come on that in the future.

More staff to continue to expand in every direction we can.

I will be looking to add additional staff with skill sets for particular areas we wish to grow, watch this space for updates and plan initiatives where you could make a difference and support your fellow members.

FISD Celebration 2023 Patch

The FISD Celebration 2023 patch run is closed. Unfortunately due to manufacturing and shipping time lines, the vendor informed us that we needed to place the order sooner than planned to make sure we could get the patches in time for Celebration. I apologize for having to close it early, I hope those that wanted patches were able to get them.

FISD Pin

With this term winding down, we submitted the pin for approval before the interest thread was complete. I had to estimate the number of pins to put on the submission and I completely missed the mark on how popular this item would be. Being as close to the end of the term, I attempted to get the number extended, but I haven't heard anything from legion so instead of limiting everyone to only a few, we are going to resubmit the pin for approval as our first merch item for the new Legion term. So while we won't have the order done here in February, we hope to open it up in March. I take full responsibility for this and hope you will accept my apology, knowing that we'll be opening the run as soon as the item is approved again in the beginning of the term, Interest thread can be found here

FISD Legion 25th Anniversary Coin

We do have one item of merch that is pending approval, that we have to get out because we can't use the Legion 25th logo after 28 Feb 2023. If this item gets approved, we will have next to zero time to do the run, and we will be pushing the run in a very short time frame. Again, this is on me for waiting to long to get the design work complete, and submitted. This first year as DMBO has had some growing pains, and I hope that I'll do better in the 2023-24 term. So please keep you eyes on the forum. I'll be posting the info here, as well as a link in the Facebook group. We will more than likely have a 15 per member limit. This coin is very much a departure from the standard FISD coins. I felt that the 25th Legion Anniversary was something to celebrate, and @Nairy did a great job of bringing my vision to life, and I'm very proud of the work we did together on this design. It will be created on an antique silver base, and we hope that it will pop.

A New Term, means new beginnings. PR musings and Vader's Valkyries. - Tales from your friendly neighborhood PR lady. (Well… not quite PR…)

First off, let me start by saying what an absolute honor it’s been these past years being able to serve and showcase our members here on this Detachment. It has been my pleasure. Truly. I’ve enjoyed watching all your comings and goings as you trooped, built, and supported one another here.

As some of you may know, we lost one of our team last year- my partner in FISD PR crime-Rat. It was always his desire to see myself begin to grow our Women in armor presence. We spoke on it for the past few years. He helped me gather research. Data. And he encouraged me to push for a support for our Lady TKs, knowing my heart lies in my TKs.

I am proud to see this taking form. He would be too. And this brings us to new beginnings for the Detachment! This will be where I focus my attention this term. I’ll be stepping aside from the PR role, allowing for others to enjoy that unique and special job.

Valkyries… The creation of an area set aside just to help women build armor. To help our women feel comfortable here. To increase our membership Support one another. Give tips and tricks. Lift one another up and be able to discuss the unique challenges we may have. A fire team of Epic wondrous proportions!! But not a fireteam. It’s hard to describe what it is…. It’s vital. It’s needed. It’s the right time.

So far, we have excitedly given the women’s unit the name of Vader's Valkyries. Or just Valkyries. We have not made any decisions in concrete as of yet, as we were kind of waiting for elections to be over and then start to initiate new areas. Ask you questions. Get feedback! A new and exciting area on the FISD! Please do seek it out, offer up insight. Opinions. keep your eyes peeled for info coming in the next coming weeks. And we shall see where this all takes us.

Thank you again for your enthusiasm and acceptance over the years. It is my honor to serve you again, but in a different capacity. Welcome and congratulations to our new PR /command team members of 2023 Term.

I wish to give an appreciative shout out to the several Troopers that indulged me during the Telethon in December. I know many of you were tentative to join me there to discuss your experiences. I want you to know I’m so grateful for that hour or two together. To hear you. Experience your memories and emotions. It was very impacting and for years I’ve wanted to talk to some of you about how it felt for you.

So much of what we do is in the magic and memories we give or create for others. And you cannot know how proud of you all I have been knowing that our Troopers were able to experience magic of their own. I celebrated you all.

I am here before you all today to announce the latest recipient of the Detachments highest accolade, the FISD Achievement Award.

This is an award of merit to the detachment, and towards the end of term is a privilege the Detachment leader has of handing out.

His nomination was received with a resounding and positive response by all staff, for this member has stepped up from the moment he arrived on our forums through to present day.

He certainly has gone over and above what is expected from our members, and that's part of what makes this award truly special.I believe he is if not, the first recipients to receive this award before he has an approved costume and become a fully fledged 501st member, but that is the beauty of FISD, as we award exceptional behavior regardless.

Are you new to the FISD and wondering what the heck all those abbreviations and strange sounding terms mean? To help you @justjoseph63 has started a list of the most commonly used ones that will give you some insight. Pre Approval Forum allows future Troopers the opportunity to submit photos of their completed build to be reviewed by the Staff, Imperial Attaches and others in preparation for forwarding it to their GML for approval. Any and all advice/suggestions given will be specific, constructive, helpful and respectful. Please note that this program will NOT take the place of your local GML, as Detachments are not chartered for costume approval and can not override a GMLs decision, but is instead a peer review program designed to help you look your best and offer guidance and positive feedback. Don't forget to visit our 3D section when next surfing the FISD forums, there is plenty of useful information to potentially help you on your next TK adventure. You might be feeling may generous and share with our community a new TK related 3D file and maybe win yourself a 3D contributors award so check out the details below and be part of the in house 3D community. Hello there fellow troopers! It is a great honor for me to join the staff in the role as your Attaché Ambassador, and I'm eager to support the team of Attachés who serve as representatives of FISD to their Garrisons, Squads, and Outposts! As the Detachment's boots on the ground, Imperial Attachés play a vital role in membership growth—engaging prospective recruits, mentoring builders, and perhaps most importantly, driving traffic back to these forums for continued assistance. My hope is that, together, we can breath new life into the Attaché program and reinvigorate club membership worldwide.

The FISD Master Armorer program is an optional, detachment only incentive award to recognize individuals who have directly helped another 501st stormtrooper to achieve Expert Infantry status. Some people spend countless hours helping others, and want to reward their results as well as incentivizing new people to help as well.

To register a “win” in the program, the assistance must have provided hands-on help trimming, building, and/or fitting of said armor for the person who was awarded Expert Infantry status. More information can be found here

Want to setup a "Fire Team? the Fire Team program is completely optional, and is intended to help form a common identity and spirit of camaraderie among 501st Legion Stormtroopers in the same geographic area/garrison that troop together. Fire Teams are not officially recognized by the 501st Legion nor the FISD, although they will be able to access a Fire Team sub-forum on the detachment website. You can find more information here.

So what exactly are and levels?

These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! You can find more information on the programs here.

For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here

NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here)

For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time!

Questions about fitting, repairs, CRL standards/requirements or anything pertaining to reaching Levels 2 and 3 are not only welcomed, but encouraged. Keep in mind that no question is too small, and that your queries will only be seen by the D.O. Staff.
