Cybroid Posted September 19, 2022 Report Posted September 19, 2022 Gday there! My name's Cody, and been looking to join up for years now. I live in Brisbane and been looking to make a Shocktrooper Stormtrooper costume. Any pointers or stores that would be best for someone down in AUS? Hoping to try finding and completing one by next year, at the very least. Thanks! 3 Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted September 19, 2022 Report Posted September 19, 2022 Hello and welcome aboard, Getting Started Section is the best place to start https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/38-getting-started-read-this-first/ Also check out this thread full of info on all stormtrooper related Quote
Sly11[Admin] Posted September 19, 2022 Report Posted September 19, 2022 Hi Cody, Glad you took my advice This is a massive resource, but fear not we have plenty of members and staff, all here to assist you in every way we can. Obviously if you need any local Brissy assistance hit me up, I've built/assisted many Redback members with their armour over the years. Glen has given you 2 key links that you should wade your way through, but also make sure you familurise yourself well with the Shock trooper CRL https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_shocktrooper This is the guide on how to assemble your costume to meet Legion basic approval. You will notice some Blue and Red text under the Black text sections. These are optional levels of accuracy you can build to, which will come under review here on FISD as they are driven by the detachment. For your basic approval, that will be handle by our Redback Garrison GML and the CRC (costume review committee) which I am part of as well. Ask plenty of questions, and assistance will flow. Enjoy the journey, it's a wonderful experience. 1 Quote

Cybroid Posted September 21, 2022 Author Report Posted September 21, 2022 Thanks guys! This is all a real big help, and I'm glad to see so many friendly faces! For the main part I'm eyeing possible finding a T-21 replica, and if not that then the DLT-19. And the various types of armor link helps me out a lot, I had no idea what ABS or ANH meant when looking through some of the stores I had found. Thank you all again! 1 Quote

Cybroid Posted September 24 Author Report Posted September 24 G'day! A couple years later and I finally managed to buy some armor for myself, and soon I'll get in the process of actually putting it together and painting it over! I think I have to make a build thread for my progress over it? Which I can do tomorrow, definitely really excited. 1 Quote
Sly11[Admin] Posted September 24 Report Posted September 24 Welcome back Cody! As you can see, we are still here and ready to assist where ever we can. Definitely create that build thread, it's the best way to get feedback. Use IMGUR to share images. It's a hosting site, which will allow you to share stacks of photos. (free to use) Use this thread to learn how. 1 Quote

Hello and welcome back, a build thread will definitely give you feedback on how your build is progressing as well as giving valuable tips and tricks, good luck 1 Quote

Cybroid Posted October 16 Author Report Posted October 16 Hello again, I got too hasty in excitement when I purchased the armor, and it slipped my mind about that stormtrooperstore place that everyone avoids. I saw a sale and took it (honestly I should have remembered the list of sites to use that a helpful staff put down, so entirely at fault on that) and I've spent the most part of the past few weeks thinking over what to do. I've seen some people also have bought from there and have managed to modify it for an at least decent shape to 501st standards, others resold or refunded. I've decided to keep it, it was enough of a hassle getting it by customs and all that. What I wanted to ask, would it be better to spend the money and time to modify it, or keep it as a practice to paint on and rebuy a new set of armor next year? I've seen some of the necessary modifications needed so I know some of what has to be done to get there. Thank you guys a bunch, I honestly feel terrible for falling into that little trap. Also if it's better to just start a completely new thread regarding this, I am more than happy to. 1 Quote

There are a few quality/detail issues with SDS (Shepperton Design Studios aka originalstormtrooper.com, these threads may help you, @Helotech put in a lot of rework on his SDS kit, most mentioned in his pre approval thread Also his build thread Another SDS pre approval Just takes a bit of work to get them to an approvable costume and a few replacement parts but I'm sure with garrison help you will do just fine. Good luck and any questions please let us know Quote
Tilheyra[IPM] Posted October 16 Report Posted October 16 (edited) Although I do not have the knowledge on the specific set of armor you purchased, I wanted to note that I will be following this thread to help in answering questions about the Shock Trooper costume! Happy to see a new potential Shock Trooper here on the forum! Edited October 16 by Tilheyra 2 Quote
Cybroid Posted October 17 Author Report Posted October 17 @gmrhodes13 Thank you a ton mate! I'm going to be going over these on the weekend. If I run into any further obstacles, or need clarification I'll be sure to ask! I may start the build thread for when I start all that though I'm hoping to make an excellent Shock Trooper! I've got painters tape across my helmet ready in the patterns necessary for it, got all the paint and such I'll need for that. 2 Quote

I've got painters tape across my helmet ready in the patterns necessary for it, got all the paint and such I'll need for that. Take note there are some details which you would also need to address for a Shock Trooper which are different from the ANH Stunt/Hero or ESB troopers. https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_shocktrooper A white flexible U shaped gasket or molded lip shall be present around all edges. A separate kidney/butt plate is not allowed - the kidney and butt plate shall be combined/fused to a single plate/one piece. The crotch tab of the butt plate area may or may not have visible snaps. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Belt does not have rivet covers. Two rivets are visible on either end of the belt. There is no center rivet present. Plastic ammo belt has square corners not 45 degree cuts. For L2 and above Overlap construction must be used. Butt joints and cover strips are not allowed. Blaster L3 Forward D-ring is mounted underneath the front sight on the left side of the barrel. Use of the correct front sight (which differs from ANH and ESB). The scope rail is unique to ROTJ E11 and is not like the normal open ANH/ESB scope rails, but is a solid, one piece, with a unique sight design on the front. The scope connects to the notched out area of the solid rail. The scope is the correct design (as seen in ROTJ), and will attach to the scope rail via one scope mount. The muzzle is unlike the normal ANH style. It is flat with two counter sunk Allen bolts (one located at the four o’clock position and one located at the ten ‘o’clock position). The door catch is correct, not a "close enough" attempt as seen on the Cinemastery blaster. 1 Quote
