It's tape, you can see the rectangle shape in the image below, poor trooper has quite a bit of tape on him, I guess being used as a stunt version he would. There is tape on his shoulder straps, lower calf bottom, around the belt (worse one Iv'e seen) and on his chest. Quote

gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted August 31, 2022 Report Posted August 31, 2022 Some suggestions, wording may not be correct as I'm not a wordsmith, references added were possible due to lack of some remnant references. Why I added the brownish hue to the weathering is the weathering is very dark in a lot of areas but can be clearly seen that it has a wash of brown. Added a few changes to the helmet as we know this is a Anovos ANH helmet so details will be specific to that helmet - perhaps Denuo Novo will produce one if they purchased the molds/plans, entirely up to the DO and LMO's if they allow other ANH era helmets and not just Anovos Note there I've found two versions of the Anovos OT ANH helmet, I believe this one was the later 2017 onwards Prior to 2017 differences, fuller teeth paint, inside hovis all white Helmet Moderate to heavily weathered with a brownish hue Traps (trapezoids on dome of helmet) and tears (area beneath the corners of eye lenses) are gray. Rear traps and tears have vertical black lines. Lenses are flat material, green in color, sufficiently dark enough to obscure the costumer's eyes. The “ear” bars have three or four bumps and are gray or painted gray, with a black outline. Painting the bumps with rank stripes (highlighted) in black is optional. Frown is painted gray and does not leave the teeth area. A total of 8 cut outs in the teeth area of the frown are present. Tube stripes are medium blue, numbering between 9 and 16 15 per side with the curve bends extending backwards. Vocoder (vertically ribbed chin detail) is painted black. Aerators/Hovi-MIX tips (cylinders on either side of the vocoder) are black or painted black. Tears, traps, and tube stripes may be hand painted, decals, or decals that replicate hand painted. Mesh may be used behind the frown to obscure the face of the wearer. Note: The helmet is accurate in detail and proportion to official references. Many commercially available helmets or those considered disproportionate in size or shape are ineligible. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Ears shall have three screws per side, one above and one below the ear bar and one at the base of the helmet. Ear bars have four bumps only. Not three. Traps/tears and tube stripes shall have the correct ANH TK details. Ideally, the tube stripes are positioned approximately a pencil width from the side of the cheek. Fall of tube stripe tops ideally lean toward the front. Correct Aerators/Hovi-MIX tips are present. Screens used shall be of a wide type mesh, with the rim of the mic and the inside nipple white or painted white. OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): Ear bars shall have only one bump painted in black (rank stripes). Ideally, placement of ears (and screws) should closely follow the rear angle of the trap above them Neck trim shall be of an s-type profile rather than a u-type profile. BigJasoni[TK] Posted August 31, 2022 Author Report Posted August 31, 2022 (edited) --Edit-- I missed Glen's previous post with all the additions, including brownish hue weathering. I will review it and add changes to the original post later. Everyone, These have all been excellent observations. I think one major thing we can take away from all of this is that the Remnants and New Generation TK costumes have taken a significant amount of abuse and the props department has been incredibly busy executing "field expedient repairs" on all the gear. Honestly, it makes sense when you compare and contrast the stunt work and general movement the TKs of today are executing when compared to the OT films. Overall, I feel that the costumes are stressed a lot more than they were in the late 70s and early 1980s, so we can expect to see frequent usage of tape and broken pieces. They're also fairly easy to find if that's what we're looking for. However, in the spirit of defining the uniform aspects of these costumes, I want to address the things that appear consistent between what we're seeing as well as these new things that continue to pop up. With that said, I'm going to update my original post with a few of the items we've agreed on thus far. For the Remnant, the OT helmet is a must. For the New Generation TK armor, including Remnant, I think we agree that the lower belt "tab" was an intended part of this costume that was either broken off, or removed on a case by case basis. Also, I'm going to add the red pauldron as an accessory for the New Generation TK to compliment the orange, black and white ones available for the ROTK. However, for those interested in the Mortar Trooper (yellow), I think that should either be an extra tab under the CRL, or a separate CRL altogether. Additionally, for blasters, we can confirm the addition of at least the SE-14R and E-22, but are waiting for additional reference photos to add for the New Generation costume. I think I spotted an E-10 in The Mandalorian season 1, plus there's this TK holding what appears to be a T-21. Regardless, please keep the references coming in. On 8/28/2022 at 5:27 PM, gmrhodes13 said: So I would have thought the front belt overlaps the back belt BUT then I found this front image, this belt butts up next to the other with no overlap. Even the two other pictures showing a small overlap still wouldn't cover all of that velcro. And again an overlap of belt from front to back, this time with no velcro on the bottom of the rear belt section, perhaps thy did away with it. Once again this just means we will have to decide on a standardised look Celebration display trooper's belt overlaps front over back, but again no velcro Appears the common look is front overlap back belt. In this image trooper on the left has glue residue where the belt has moved. The Belt: I completely agree that the front overlaps the back which stands in contrast to what we have in the Rogue One TK CRL. Here's one of the references from Rogue One showing the back overlapping the front: But the majority of the references I can find show the front overlapping the back: ROTK on Scariff ROTK at CE 2016. TK in Solo where it's either front over the back, or butting up end to end. Seems like there's more reference photos from Rogue One and Solo where the front overlaps the back, but that is also consistent with the newer productions. Celebration 2022. So, team these up with the pictures Glen posted and I think it's clear that the intent was for the front to overlap the back. However, for the TKs who appear to have waist sizes larger than 30"/ 76 cm, the ends of the front and rear belts appear to butt up against each other. My suspicion regarding the tape is that it was simply added to hold things together, especially for the stunt actors who were a little more physical than the others. On 8/28/2022 at 5:27 PM, gmrhodes13 said: On the right we see a trooper who must be a little wider than the standard sized troopers, his backplate doesn't cover the ab/back so as this is wider we also see the two buckles from the harness I think you're right. This TK just appears to have grabbed whatever was available at the time. I've seen a few different back plates that make me think that the actors had small, medium and large options, but whoever helped this trooper get dressed must have picked last. If you look at the TK on the far left, the kidney plate appears to extend much further to the side. I'm not sure how the costumes are pieced together for the actors on set, but from just looking at it, it makes me think that the trim at the top of the shin armor just wasn't secured to the rear. This may be another one of those broken pieces. To me, it looks like the shin armor cracked when they Velcroed the rear "clam shell" together. Here I am attempting to emulate the look with my Mr Paul shin armor: Not quite the same, but I think this illustrates what I'm trying to say. Also, I haven't seen any other references that look like this, so again I assume something's just going awry with the costume. Edited August 31, 2022 by BigJasoni Quote
BigJasoni[TK] Posted August 31, 2022 Author Report Posted August 31, 2022 One thing I forgot to note earlier, I added the J hook and 1" webbing that passes through the bicep to the original post. These elements of the armor keep reappearing in scene after scene. I know we typically don't cover strapping in the CRLs, but similar to the strap holding up the thighs or the webbing holding the drop box, this continues to be a prominent element of the costume: Quote

I think you may be onto something, Jason, and it would explain my earlier post. Glen is absolutely right... that is definitely a piece of gaffa tape on the side, but the shadow under the raised ridge is what was throwing me, and your image made me feel a little less crazy, lol. Note in both screen caps that the tape goes UNDER the ridge. I'm thinking this was a one-off.. where the ridge broke off of the calf, but why would they put the tape under it? Hmmmm. The plot thickens. Quote

As you mentioned, we don't normally scrutinize strapping, but if we can find enough screen caps showing this set-up it should probably be a requirement for Centurion.. maybe even EI. Quote

Also for the Remnant I'm only looking at Remnant troopers and their references, I know when some aren't available we have to base on past costumes as per Rogue One. Once we have the Remnant CRL locked in I'll spend some time on next gen differences, doing both at once may get confusing. Quote

gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted August 31, 2022 Report Posted August 31, 2022 We know the RO had the bicep hooks straps but I'm yet to see them on a Remnant trooper, this is where we would have to presume they would be the same, but in saying that they should look a particular way. Celebration images, note the position of the biceps to shoulder bells, cover strip @ in alignment to end of the shoulder bells and take special note of the middle strap on the bicep which should connect directly to the shoulder bell so no rotation. But if we look at biceps on the Remnant troopers some are rotated compared to the shoulder bells, some are lifted off the biceps, some have turned to nearly facing forward, I doubt this could happen if they where strapped in the RO manner but again it's just presuming how they should be or how they should work. But we do know they were on other troopers in Mandalorian Quote

The Rogue One Pauldron is specific to Rogue One and differs from the original trilogy in color and stitching. Original trilogy Pauldrons are not an authorized accessory for Rogue One armor. An Orange, white, or black ornament made of leather plastic or leather-like material, worn over the right shoulder. The Orange is specific to Rogue One and a different shade from the original trilogy. A red pauldron as seen in The Mandalorian Chapter 14, may be worn as part of the New Generation TK costume, but not as a Rogue One stormtrooper. 8/31/2022 The colored panel is divided into three sections by color matched stitching to conform to the wearers shoulder and has black piping around the outside edge. The remainder of the Pauldron is black and divided by black stitching into 10 segments. The neck closure is black and has two black snaps visible. There is a black elastic strap that runs from back to front and is worn under the bicep to hold the Pauldron in place. The strap is conned to the Pauldron on top by two black snaps inlayed in black “D” shaped leather or leather-like ends. The underside of the Pauldron is white regardless of top color and is divided with white stitching into 13 segments. The entire outside edge is finished with black piping and the underside of the neck closure is black. I think I may have to start another thread just to keep these separate from the Remnant. I thought it what was going to happen hence why I only concentrated on the Remnant there's too much info to compile in one thread in regards to multiple CRL's. There are definitely some differences between Rogue One, Mandalorian, Mandalorian Remnant and Obi-Wan, whether these will constitute a new CRL for each is entirely up to the amount of differences and our DO and LMO's. There are specifics to episodes as well and I know we want the general/standardized look but in some cases there are no other references and it's not a minor piece. Take pauldrons for instance, Rogue One, Mandalorian, Incinerator, Artillery and Sandtrooper/Jedha Crystal (although there is a mistake) all had 3 panel/stitched color sections BUT get to Mandalorian S2EP6 Chapter 14 and we have an example of a one piece color section which doesn't fit into any of this "new era" variants. RO - Rogue One MI - Mandalorian Incinerator MA - Mandalorian Artillery OW - Obi Wan Apart from the HWT's can't say I remember seeing any pauldrons but I've not delved into that as yet RO/SOLO era - Rogue One Jedha / Crystal Sandtrooper All 3 panel/stitched. The Jedha trooper CRL has an error, the white pauldron is different to other Sandies not only is the ribbed section white but the closure should also be white not black as per reference below MB - Mimban MC - Mandalorian Commander S2EP6 Chapter 14 And then we get to this trooper, no 3 panels/stitching which is different to all these era variants So this one wouldn't fit into the Rogue One CRL or a New Era Obi Wan as he doesn't have a holster, it may pop up in another series who knows. That's just one example. Quote
Sly11[Admin] Posted September 3, 2022 Report Posted September 3, 2022 Just to go back to the strapping, and I think it was the J hook cut outs, I am not inclined to start adding internal and usually hidden features and have them mandated in to our CRL's. Strapping is a personal choice, so if someone wants to go to the effort of replicating those J's or any other type of hidden aspect, then that remains a decision entirely up to the individual. What we do focus on is the external and trying to walk close to that line, some finer details that bring the outside visible parts closer to screen accuracy is what level 2 and 3 are definitely for. Take for example the concealed zippers on TLJ forearms. If a member wishes to replicate for their own self satisfaction, then that is wonderful, they most probably were not meant to be recognised on screen just as those J hooks are concealed under the shoulder bells and not forming an intricate highly visible part of the costume. Outstanding work on this so far guys, we have some very strong cases for changes and I think an excellent CRL in the making. Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted September 3, 2022 Report Posted September 3, 2022 I agree about not adding the J slot and strapping requirement and was searching for some references as I'd removed it from the suggested CRL text a few posts up, we have other costumes which are built the same way and we've not added those as requirements as they are internal strapping, like the Rogue One CRL, another example is Phasma's biceps with the J hooks and tab/velcro and they are not in that CRL, FOTK's had a tab/velcro strip there too and not a CRL requirement, a few examples. I'm actually surprised that nobody building a phasma has enquired about an update for the CRL as you can clearly see the chest/yoke/back is hinged, shhhh perhaps I shouldn't mention it again Incidentally for anyone wondering no version of FOTK's had the hinge chest/yoke/back Anyway back to Remnants Quote
Sly11[Admin] Posted September 3, 2022 Report Posted September 3, 2022 The chroming process would have been a big issue with cracking and peeling in that area so it makes sense for this. Here is a close up of an asset showing the J hook system on TFA seeing as you have already derailed the thread lol. Quote

Be a nice addition to the gallery section, I've not seen this detail previously although I presumed it would be the same as most other costumes have been in recent years. But I digress once again, back to the Remnant CRL Quote
Sly11[Admin] Posted September 3, 2022 Report Posted September 3, 2022 I added the almost identical image to the gallery in 2020 Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted September 5, 2022 Report Posted September 5, 2022 Been looking over the remnant images again in regards to the belt, we have butted together and overlapped, and we have overlapping seen both ways, front over back and back over front, this is with the same belt/trooper too So should either be allowed? Belt Moderate to heavily weathered with a brownish hue The Ammunition belt consists of a hard belt made of the same or similar material as the armor in two separate parts front and back, they can be either butted together or overlapped (with overlap). The back belt overlaps the front belt on the sides. There are 6 ammunition boxes mounted to the belt. There are 2 (one left and one right) drop boxes suspended by black webbing approximately 2" (50mm) wide. Drop boxes must be accurate in detail and proportion to official references. The ammunition belt is accurate in detail and proportion to official references. Bottom of belt may be completely straight or trimmed angular from the sides of the cod up to the drop boxes. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): The only detail visible on the front belt is the mounted ammunition boxes unlike the squares present on ANH belts. The top edge of the front belt has protruding teeth that nest inside gaps between the ribs and detail panels of the abdominal armor. The two center ammunition boxes are thinner than the other mounted ammunition boxes. The second and fifth mounted ammunition boxes are slightly wider than the two center ammunition boxes. The two outermost ammunition boxes are almost square. The two drop boxes are rectangular and as wide as the mounted square boxes. OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): The ammo boxes across the front are all made separately from the main belt and are secured to it The two drop boxes hang no more than 1” 25mm below the front belt and the black strap is visible. The second and fifth mounted ammunition boxes have trapezoid detail on the top of each ammunition box. The front belt protrudes past all mounted ammunition boxes above and below by approximately 1/8”-1/4” 3-6mm. All ammunition boxes have slightly bevelled edges on the face of each box. Quote
Sly11[Admin] Posted September 5, 2022 Report Posted September 5, 2022 As this doesn't show any consistency I would agree that yes both ways should be allowable. It's clear that the dressing department didn't take any notice or had a specific direction on this point. 1 Quote

To show the deterioration of discipline in addition to the deterioration of armor. Quote

BaylorBear Posted September 11, 2023 Report Posted September 11, 2023 So, question for y'all... I've just got in my WTF ANH stunt armor and I'm starting my build... I see a lot of the reference material saying Rogue One armor for a Remnant build but since timeline wise... RO happens before well, everything else in the OT, can I just weather my ANH armor into a Remnant look? For practical military logistical reasons, all of the armors would coexist in the empire just the same way it does in the current military. Quote

Unfortunately not, we have screen references of the armor used in RO and other recent series so we know what version armor it is. Timeline, Disney don't care about timeline and what version costume should have been used, we do however go off the screen references. If you want a slightly dirty look you could do a HWT (heavy weapons trooper) or go full Sandy. 1 Quote
