BATS2150 Posted July 28, 2022 Report Posted July 28, 2022 (edited) Are there any ideas as to how I can keep the lower edge of the thigh armor from digging in the back of my leg without having to Dremel it down? The edge at the bottom of the arrow on the Reference photo. Edited July 31, 2022 by BATS2150 add picture Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted July 28, 2022 Report Posted July 28, 2022 First off photos would be handy to see what gaps you have and how the armor is sitting. Most of the time it's a case of using a dremel or snips to cut down the tops. You can't take any of the bottoms of the thighs due to the ridges there. Depending where it's digging in mobility cut outs may help as you may be able to drop the thighs a little, but as I say photos would help Quote
BATS2150 Posted July 28, 2022 Author Report Posted July 28, 2022 Ok, I put up a picture of the right thigh armor and circled the problem area. Quote
Sly11[Admin] Posted July 28, 2022 Report Posted July 28, 2022 Hi Michael You can actually trim some of that ridge off. Many of the screen used suits have a portion of that area removed for mobility and comfort. ANH screen shot of ridge trimmed away for mobility and comfort Quote
BATS2150 Posted July 28, 2022 Author Report Posted July 28, 2022 Yeah, I was looking at all the screenshots from ANH. I got my armor from Mark at AP in Canada, but yeah, I think I will do that. Just wanted to get some feedback. 1 Quote
BATS2150 Posted July 28, 2022 Author Report Posted July 28, 2022 (edited) I finished the Right Thigh after a few days. Let me try and upload. Edited July 31, 2022 by BATS2150 add picture Quote

Yes you can take off some more, all of that return edge can be trimmed, as both Andrew and I have said you can remove even the lower ridge area as some of the screen armor had that, reference Quote

I did not want to cut too much close to the ridge, my old man eyes are not what they use to be. What do you all think? It's ok Michael. just a sanding session to avoid armor bites and you're golden. BATS2150 Posted July 30, 2022 Author Report Posted July 30, 2022 I just got to cut down the return edge also to help a little with fit and mobility also. Quote
BATS2150 Posted August 1, 2022 Author Report Posted August 1, 2022 (edited) UPDATE: Finally got pictures of the Right Thigh up. I completed the return edge removal and sanded. Now work on Left Thigh. Edited August 4, 2022 by BATS2150 remove picture 2 Quote
BATS2150 Posted August 2, 2022 Author Report Posted August 2, 2022 (edited) Ok, Did a little work on the top of the Left Thigh. Doing this slow and easy. Plus, my Dremel needed a charge. Edited August 4, 2022 by BATS2150 Removed pictures for Space 1 Quote
BATS2150 Posted August 3, 2022 Author Report Posted August 3, 2022 The way I feel right now after doing some armor mods. 1 Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted August 3, 2022 Report Posted August 3, 2022 It can be a dauting task making those first cuts, shortly after you wonder what all the worry was about Quote
BATS2150 Posted August 4, 2022 Author Report Posted August 4, 2022 (edited) Ok, Did the Left thigh Mobility Cuts and return edge. I did not want to grind off too much of the Ridge. I don't think they had a Dremel handy back in 1976-1977 when they did the modifications on the screen used suits. Edited August 4, 2022 by BATS2150 Information and add picture Quote
TKSpartan[Staff] Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 They look ok . Good work. For higher levels "Any mobility cuts on the back do not extend beyond the top of the raised ridge." By the way, Try using a photo host like Imgur to post your photos into the thread without no space limit. 2 Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 Nice work, just make sure there are no sharp bits or you may encounter armor bites Quote
BATS2150 Posted August 4, 2022 Author Report Posted August 4, 2022 Yeah, already got a nice scratch on my finger from running my hand across the edge while sanding Quote

BATS2150 Posted August 5, 2022 Author Report Posted August 5, 2022 I have seen on some pictures that the sniper knee seems to be flush. The pictures show how mine is and is there a way to achieve the look of it as part of the shin? Quote
TKSpartan[Staff] Posted August 5, 2022 Report Posted August 5, 2022 You nee to clamp both sides too. clamps, clamps , clamps Some examples For Higher Levels : Sniper knee plate must be aligned with the ridges on the shin. REFERENCE IMAGES Quote
BATS2150 Posted August 5, 2022 Author Report Posted August 5, 2022 the fun part is trying to get the edges to meet and keeping the front centered at the same time. Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted August 5, 2022 Report Posted August 5, 2022 I've had to add a small piece of plastic behind the top of the sniper plate to allow the bottom and sides to angle correctly. It's all about force, clamps, magnets and wrapping tape all can be used to get it to sit just right Quote
BATS2150 Posted August 6, 2022 Author Report Posted August 6, 2022 (edited) One thing I am seeing on the sniper knee, I am slightly off center to the left. Would you suggest to sand down the high sopts and use ABS paste? Edited August 6, 2022 by BATS2150 Quote
