Thigh Armor-Fit issues

Howdy All...........

I have an issue, and I can't be the only person this has happened too so I am seeking advice.

My thighs are bigger around than the armor (FX) ( I'm 6'3" and 249#)

If I place the 2 pieces of the thigh side by side, rather than overlapping, they will go around my leg. I can then take the extra ABS that came with the kit and make one single stip that would cover both halves. This however would put a 2 1/2 - 3" seam on the front of the armor. The rest seems to be okay, although I may have to make an extension for the calves too, but I can do that in the back I spose.

Would that front seam be out of proportion/awkward looking? Any suggestions?????

Make the front accurate and shim the back. That way you always look god in pics.

I'm also going to write a tutorial, when life gives me a break, on how to do really nice thigh shims.

My thighs and biceps are glued/shimmed solid. forearms and calves have velcro at the back as I couldnt slip them on my hands/feet solid. B)

so basically every outward facing or forward facing seam glue, and if possible glue the back and if not, use velcro? kinda what i thought, but wanted to ask to make sure. i know i will have to shim the biceps, mine arm larger than they are by a lil bit.

im in process of puttin a FX kit together, and havent got tothe arms and legs parts yet, as im still workin the main body parts first.

thanks for the input and advise. much appreciated.

I have my thighs glued on front and back. However at a recent event I did notice one of my garrison mates has the back of his thighs velcro'ed for ease of taking on and off. It really is what works best for you and what gives you the best fit and ease of taking on and off.

I would glue everything if i could as i think velcro is a pain, yeah glue/plastic weld all the fronts up. When I got my armour it had straps/poppers in the front of the ab plate to hold up the thighs. This way is ok but means you have to put on the body first. For me I then had probs bending over to put my legs on with the body on. So I use the belt method to attach my thighs instead of the front armour. This way I can put all my legs on attached to the belt before putting on my body armour which I find much easier, but its personal preference really mate B)

kinda what i was leaning towards. glued front and velcroed backs. i made the biceps and theyre glued front anf back/ foreamrs are gonna have to be shimmed. the part near the elbow end, my arm is bigger round, so i gotta kinda wedge shape shim it so its bigger on that end.

thighs, i was thinkin of the webbelt around my waist idea, with a strap comin down to snap insisde the thighs. did the bells and biceps that way so they hang right. and gonna put a snap under the shoulder bridges to hook the bells/biceps setup to on each side. so i might just make those solid as suggested. i will glue the front, and test fit, and see how hard it is to get it up and down the leg, if it hard, then velcro will be used on backs.

reinforced the bridges straps with fuzzy velcro to aid in stress relief. rivoting the front and back to bridges. then i just slip it on like a shirt, snap the bells straps in place, velcro, with elastc to connect the bottom ends to gether front to back.

thanks for all the advice and input guys. after building my Vader to get in the 501st with, a trooper is a bit diff to put together, therefore all the questions, i hope y'all dont mind? cuz i wanted a trooper as a backup for 501st events on other states. see here in OK. im the ONLY 501st vader. so i get priority, but if i go outta state, and theres a vader from that areas garrison, unless we worked out a swapout vader time deal, i needed a different costume, so thats why i decided to do a trooper.

gives me more options that way.

well on bridges i decided to just single rivot each bridge down on chest, but velcro the back to bridges.

i installed my suspenders but havent tried it on yet. should work fine tho. i got a 2 inch web belt to use as a waist strap to attach the thighs to with a couple drop straps off it and snaps.
