husky68[TK] Posted March 4, 2022 Report Posted March 4, 2022 (edited) I’ve been considering how to add hearing assist without additional helmet work. ( My helmet is tight already. ). I’d been thinking to just use AirPods and found Live Listen feature build into iOS. So you could have your iPhone carried externally or by handler and hear more sounds around you. If anyone has any other app suggestions I’d love to ‘hear’ them. Edited March 4, 2022 by husky68 Quote
MaskedVengeance[Staff] Posted March 4, 2022 Report Posted March 4, 2022 This is intriguing, indeed. I inherited some older airpods myself and see that Apple support states that an external wired microphone can also be used with your phone. Would be interesting if we could plug up a regular pair of Apple ear buds into the phone (stashed under your chest plate), run the cable to the edge of the chest somewhere, and then have the sound piped to the airpods rather than the plugged in ear buds. Only problem in this scenario might be feedback if an amp is also located in the chest plate. Having a nearby handler hold the phone, as you suggested, is another interesting idea. Quote
CallMeMrTibbles[501st] Posted March 5, 2022 Report Posted March 5, 2022 Feedback 'shouldn't' be an issue as the mic is unlikely to hear what's coming out of the buds. Loving the idea. 1 Quote
MaskedVengeance[Staff] Posted March 5, 2022 Report Posted March 5, 2022 You’re absolutely right about feedback, in the normal sense of the term. I guess what I was thinking was more the wearer’s spoken dialogue (if using a mic and Aker amp) being picked up by the live listen mic and being fed back to the wearer’s in-ear AirPods. Basically hearing yourself talk, possibly with a slight echo-like delay.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
