sskunky Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Hi everyone, I am trying to build my own power cylinders for E11 project. I have managed to get most of the other bits and pieces but I am having major problems trying to make the plate/holder/rack or whatever it's called that holds the cylinders and pins. There used to be a template on the BBC Blaster builders club but they seemed to have disappeared? Can anyone please help? your hopefully, Mark. Quote
TK6540UKG Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 I've been having the same problem too.. I have a set of resin ones on their way from a fellow 501st member in the US. When they get here, I'll get some measurements, and let you know. Unless someone beats me to it of course....lol. Quote
sskunky Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 I've been having the same problem too.. I have a set of resin ones on their way from a fellow 501st member in the US. When they get here, I'll get some measurements, and let you know. Unless someone beats me to it of course....lol. I have managed to get some measurements Cylinders: Total length: 58mm Tube length: 48mm Tube width: 10.5mm Front cap thickness: 3.5mm Back cap thickness: 5mm whereas 1mm of it is in a curve Width of both caps: 11.5mm Thickness of nut: 1.5mm Width of nut: 4mm Length of pins: 18mm Width of pins: 2.5mm Length of holder minus height: 32mm Width of holder: 36mm heigth of holder: 16mm Tube braces: 15mm where there is a bend at each 5mm on the sides Center of tube hole to other center of tube hole: 22mm Center of pin hole to other center of pin hole: 5mm The tubes & holder measurements make sense when you look at the photos. I got the photos from the darksidesithlord.com ( I hope he doesn't mind, it's for a good cause!! ) and he sent me the measurements. Check out his blaster build it's something else!!!!! Truly spectacular from start to finish. I used some 10.5mm brass tubing for the tubes and a bit of 2.5mm brass rod for the pins , I then bought some screw cover caps from Wickes £1.09 and some epoxy putty metal repair £3.99 and just used the clear inner caps and filled them with the putty and sanded them all down to look right. to make the holding plate I bought some 0.6mm sheet steel from B & Q and cut it out with some tin snips and filed it smooth , then bent it in a vice and drilled the relevant holes. Most of this can be seen on darksidesithlord's great tutorial. anyway I hope this helps anyone trying to build these cylinders. Keep building those blasters guys. Mark. Quote
synaptyx Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Those are flippin' awesome. I have a pair of resin ones and they're woefully inaccurate. I may have a go at something like this. It'll be my first scratchbuild! Quote
sskunky Posted December 11, 2008 Author Report Posted December 11, 2008 Thanks, I thought they might be helpful. They are not too hard to build just a bit fiddly! Quote
synaptyx Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Thanks,I thought they might be helpful. They are not too hard to build just a bit fiddly! I don't actually own any metalworking tools, or even a vice, so I tried to improvise a set out of abs and AA batteries. Quote

sskunky Posted December 11, 2008 Author Report Posted December 11, 2008 Just sending you some stuff over now, might take a while to come through. Quote
synaptyx Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Thanks Mark, Looks like I have a lot to read tomorrow. Quote
synaptyx Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Hi guys, thanks to Mark, I got bits sorted out to make my cylinders. I knocked up this template to make things easier. The holes are marked 0.5mm smaller so you can sand/file them out to fit your tubes exactly. Print this at 300dpi and you'll get it at the right size. Quote
derekduvalle Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Thanks for the template, I have been following this thread for a while hoping someone will post a template, well done. Quote
synaptyx Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 No probs mate, seemed like the right thing to do. Quote
Jehudah Design Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 That's a pretty good template you made there, I'm glad those measurements came of good use then, and cool to see my callsign on it too Too bad my next E-11 won't have cylinders on it when there's a template with my callsign on it out now Quote
synaptyx Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Hi there, Jehudah! Thank you for working all the sizes out, I'm in the middle of making my cylinders. Never attempted a scratch build before, so thanks for helping me get my feet wet too! Quote
Jehudah Design Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Hehe, where the fudge did you find that name? It's one of my many names anyway, so works. Good luck with the build then, I'm glad I got your feet wet enough to start building some cylinders then Quote
4505 Marcel Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Is there any screen pictures of the pins you have put on as ive not seen them before Im going to get my bracket machined out of solid block ali and cylinders to match Quote
synaptyx Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I've seen a pic or two, but they are actually very difficult to make out. Can't seem to find the pics now. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 Woah! take a look at these! you can find more pics go to the blog Quote
RoCKo[501st] Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 those cylinders are made by Russ Brown and they are absolutly superb... as some of you might know i´m a screenaccurate nut and i couldn´t be happier with my cylinders. i talked to Russ a couple of days ago about a 2nd run. Russ will offer these cylinders here on the FISD and on the MEPD forum as well very soon. Stay tuned... Quote
Turrican Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Hey sskunky , are you still make these cylinders? Cause i wait now since 9 month of the russrep ones, and no longer think that i ever will get them, i'm looking after a other screen accurate source. Your's looks great . Quote
sskunky Posted June 2, 2010 Author Report Posted June 2, 2010 Hi Turrican, I was never really making them , I made a couple, one set for me and another for someone else. I just got a sheet of thin ali, Some tin snips, a file and cut it out to the template design above and then fabricated some cylinders from some tubing and some plastic screw covers and used a bit of plumbers epoxy putty to make the end caps fit on. Then used some thin rod and cut them to length for the middle pin bits. I simply stuck it all together with superglue. Done! Quote
Turrican Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 Aha..well that sounds not so hard to do. I will try it. Thanks for your reply kunky and for the info sharing . Quote
Blastmaster Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 I also just made mine off that templet, I used some copper tubing from Lowes Home improvement,Lowes has the correct size Home depot doesn't. They have copper caps as well that I cut down and some small nuts and bolts from local hobby store. The holder I made out of some thin sheet metal, tin snips and CA Glue!! They look pretty good!! Have fun, AL Quote
Turrican Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 Thanks for all your ideas and help! Nearly finished mine now. Only parts which missing now, are the small screw and screw nut. As i think , maybe not so good as the ones from Russrep but also nearly screen accurate. And, also a part which can be done selfmade without spend a lot of money. Quote
sskunky Posted June 8, 2010 Author Report Posted June 8, 2010 Told you could do it. Really good mate, well done. Quote
