Hi! I am new here and I want to get involved and I just wanted to put my interests out there. I am a sophomore at Penn State University and I am from Maryland but my family is split up and also lives in Virginia. I love doing charity and have been active all during high school and completed 250 hours with Jrotc, I am bilingual, enjoy MMA, and yes I like to need out. I would like to meet new people and find mentors to help me build a great costume so I can participate as a member or which ever comes first! I am all ears :)

Hi James and welcome to FISD.

If you haven't  decided whish armor .  You may want to take a look to the following forum section

If you like to read and research this thread could be useful also.

Good luck with your project.  :salute:

I am thinking the one I want to try is the Heavy Weapons Stormtrooper, is there any rules what new first timers can do?

Also I am in college and budgeting is a way of life, I know there is now exact number for a costume but what is about the ball park of suck a costume?

Welcome to the FISD James!

Great choice going with the HWT!

It's really a ANH stunt with accessories. So you can switch between the two for trooping. This is kinda an expensive hobby but the investment pays off in smiles and great memories for fans of all ages.

I would guess I have between $1500.00-1700.00 into mine. Sounds like a lot but broken down in chunks it isn't bad. The biggest chunk is the armor. Have a look at the Vetted sellers list and go from there.

Good luck Future Trooper!:duim:

Hello and welcome aboard, the 501st has base guidelines for costume approval which we call the CRL's (costume reference library) you can find the requirements for HWT here: https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_hwt

First off Welcome to FISD!!

As Randy said you should expect to be in the 1500 / 2000 ball park when all said & done. But to reiterate the statement that once broken down it really isn't that bad and you wont build it all at once.

After doing your research on Armorers HERE and figure out what's best for you and purchase your shiny white ABS. Once that's done you can start planning, building & saving for all the other parts.

You'll find a ton of information and you can always ask any questions that pop up and we'll be happy to point you in the right direction.

Penn? Engineering perhaps?

Being on a budget has only to do with time and quality. You can achieve the exact same level of quality and professionally built on your own. That’s what’s great about not only this but the community here.

I’ve seen some built it your own threads that were built super fast and with expert craftsmanship.

Key points.. take your time. Do the research. Ask questions.

You got this bud.

Welcome James!

Definitely take your time and do your research while you are accumulating the funds to make your purchases.  Don't feel any need to rush.  There will always be more rebels to catch and smiles to make.  The important thing is to make your armor right and well and have fun doing it.  Maybe that was more than one thing?

Also, don't forget to start a build thread.  It gives you a great place to ask questions, receive quality advice and feedback.  It's like having a bunch of the FISD with you while you build.

James,
WE ARE!!! Welcome from a Penn State Alum and member of northern Virginia's Garrison Tyranus, Inferno Squad. Please reach out with any questions, we're glad to have you aboard. Hmm... Now that I'm thinking about Happy Valley, I think I'm going to order some Berkey Creamery Grilled Stickies ice cream for home delivery.
