David Prowse July 1, 1935 - November 28, 2020

Before he became an actor, Prowse was a champion bodybuilder in the UK in the 1960s. His biggest role prior to Darth Vader was as the Green Cross Code Man, a hero who promoted street-crossing safety to children in a government public service campaign. Prowse called the Code Man gig “the best job I’ve ever had, including my Star Wars role, and by far my proudest achievement.”

On the 7th of December, 2020 we learned that Marcin Miduch (TI-19705) had flown his final mission. Marcin was a member of the Polish Garrsion and Jolly Roger Squadron. He was well loved for his cordial nature and passion for discussion of all manners of Sci-fi. He made a difference in the lives of young patients as part of his garrison’s costumed support troops to hospitals. Marcin shared his interest world-wide with the friendly correspondence that accompanied his coin and patch trades.

Our condolences go out to his family and friends.

Greetings fellow troopers

Can you believe it's December and the festive season is upon us!!

It has indeed been a tough year for many of our imperial citizens around the world and although some staff were heavily impacted here in the detachment, we have managed to keep FISD "The place to be" in 2020.

Together we have achieved so much and remained the most active forum in the 501st thanks to all of you, our wonderful membership.

I would also like to thank the detachment command and extended staff for the outstanding effort of being here for the membership as much as you have been.

Our forums arguably look the best they ever have with colourful banners, new sections and the huge clean up and repair effort that is still under way. This will continue until complete and was years overdue.

We hit the Victory 1000 milestone in true TK celebratory fashion approving the 1000 Expert Infantry member and continue upwards, and are now ever so close to hitting Centurion500 so lets keep the momentum flowing.

We introduced some new merch in the form of the exclusive pins, and I will reveal that next year we will indeed have different version of these, this time available to all.

Before you know it we will have those beautiful Victory 1000 patches in our hands and I can not wait to see photos of these on jackets and vests, worn with pride.

These are just some of the many things we managed to accomplish this year all considering, and I couldn't be prouder of each and every one of you that contributed to our success.

From the simplest post to the most active, it is you the members that keep this place steamrolling along and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Don't forget to take part in our What armour are you wearing Poll for 2020

How ever you celebrate this time of year, I wish you all safe, happy and healthy end to 2020, and look forward to seeing you all here on FISD next year.

BRING ON 2021!!

and lets keep this party going.

Greetings Troopers!  Well what can the PM team say about 2020 that hasn't already been said?  Yes it was a tough year for all.  So I will leave it at that.  What did that mean for our team here at the FISD?  Well overall it was a very smooth sailing year for the DCOGs.  The forums ran rather smoothly and everyone got along.  We extremely appreciate all of our members cooperation and support towards one another.  Even though our members had a tough time during the pandemic in their personal lives, many members found the time to come onto our forums and provide helpful assistance to build threads and be welcoming to our new members.  For all of that we are really greatful.  The FISD remains the most active forum within the legion and we couldn't do that without all of you.

So once again the PM team thanks all of you for making our job very easy this year.  We look forward to 2021 and putting this pandemic behind us.  This detachment is destined for great things next year.

Just a note from the D.O. Staff to say how very proud we are to have a record number of Troopers who have earned their Centurion badge in the last 4 weeks!  You have certainly kept us busy, but we appreciate each and every one who has submitted, so keep em' coming and know that we are here to help if you need it!

Hot off the heals of our Victory1000 celebrations, FISD are proud to bring you our next target event.

We are fast approaching another milestone and another chance to celebrate victory as we hit 500 Centurions approved.

This miles stone will also come with another special Centurion only piece of merch for the first 500, in the form of a pin to match the Expert Infantry exclusive.

YhDlA1a.png

Our very own gmrhodes13 (Glen) has outdone himself yet again and put together the perfect introduction for this milestone event so without further adieu, FISD brings you.

Now that we have reached 1000 Expert Infantry, It's time to once again become part of FISD history and enter the "Centurion500"

We are aiming to have 500 approved Centurions by the end of the year.  We only have 12 to go, so in order to reach that goal we are asking that you read over the CRLs for your particular armor, (this thread will help) make any necessary adjustments and post up your submission!

Photo Checklists -  Link here

Questions:

1.  Not sure if I have what it takes to reach Centurion-  You don't know until you try, and you have not only the D.O. staff but an entire Detachment to help!

2.  I need some repairs/fixes first-  This is why we are here!  We honestly want you to succeed and are here to help in any way we can.

3.  I am happy with the way my armor looks, so why bother?-  It not only makes you look more screen accurate, it instills a sense of pride and "esprit de corps"!

4.  What if I don't make it No worries, we will provide detailed suggestions on how to reach your goal!

Benefits:

Bragging rights for being one of the "Original 500"

Now that the entire Staff and those who have reached Levels 2 and 3 are here to help in any way we can, you are more than welcome (and encouraged) to ask any and all questions you may have on this thread, or contact one of our Deployment Officers Joseph, Sha Sha or Mario.

What You Wearing? - Armor Poll 2020

The last poll was run in 2018 so every few years we like to collect and update our data, plus it's always fun to see what those stats look like.

I have added  as many makers as I can remember, but if your choice is not available, the "Other" option has been added. You can most certainly reply with what your make is in this thread so we can capture it for next time, but if I have missed a big one, I shall add it.

This Poll will cover both OT and FO versions and I have also tried to include makers who may no longer be available to capture that info as well.

Makers Like FX although numbers these days have dwindled and also Mimic who had a short lifespan.

You can find the poll here

The poll will close in 3 weeks.

No doubt this year has been a new experience of challenging.

My continued appreciation to those exhausted sleeping standing up frontline services who continue the battle.

There were times like this in the military where we would all look to one another and whisper “Hold the line” meaning that it was time to dig deep within yourself and making sure that the line of offence is held.

These words I pass on to all of you troopers and your families this holiday season.

That glimmer in your eye that happens when a fleeting thought of putting on that armour and the smiles to be made.

Be patient and be safe my friends...

Hold the line :duim:

Without further ado please welcome our last inductee for 2020!

Congratulations TK - 22020 Cam and welcome to the Stormtrooper Hall of Fame Trooper!

We take this opportunity to acknowledge two of our most active Detachment and staff members and their recent milestones

zBaV5BK.jpg

20,000 forum posts Glen Rhodes  "gmrhodes13"   TK85421

Not only does Glen offer solid and valuable advise to the greater membership across the many thousands of forum posts and threads on a daily basis, this year he has stepped up and assisted other staff and myself with multiple tasks like the forum headers and the what sometimes seems to be the insurmountable, forum clean up, and Photobucket post revitalization project (what a mouthful) All this he has done without hesitation, and lets also not forget the truly wonderful job he does with our monthly newsletter. He is here, he is there, he is everywhere!!!

Only one other member has reached this milestone, our detachment founder Paul "Daetrin" TK-8020

Thank you Glen, you are a true asset to our detachment and command team and I thank you for your support.

Thread can be found here

tk10963b_head.jpg

10,000 forum posts Joseph "justjoseph63"  TK10963

On a daily basis Joseph can be found expertly guiding new recruits on their journeys to the 501st or assisting veterans seeking the ranks of EI and Centurion. No doubt this Trooper's diligent contributions at the Detachment and Garrison levels have had a significant impact on a great many of us. Hitting 10,000 posts is no simple accomplishment, especially when they are as detailed and constructive as those by this member, and such a remarkable number is indicative of a consistent presence and immeasurable value to the community. Though he would never seek acclaim for his tireless commitment to the motto "Troopers Helping Troopers," his dedication to that cause is worthy of acknowledgement and thanks from us all.

So, a big heartfelt thank you Joseph you are a true asset to FISD and the 501st, and your abundant generosity and passion will continue to be inspiring to all of us!

Thread can be found here

Congratulations to you both and thank you for your service to this community

Please note that this program will NOT take the place of your local GML, as Detachments are not chartered for costume approval and can not override a GMLs decision, but is instead a peer review program designed to help you look your best and offer guidance and positive feedback.  You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your completed armor, weapons (if applicable), accessories, etc. and get accurate information from the experts here at the FISD.. the definitive home of TKs worldwide.

No Award Recipients November - December

bsNzjkv.png

uAjkLIn.png

The FISD Master Armorer program is an optional, detachment only incentive award to recognize individuals who have directly helped another 501st stormtrooper to achieve Expert Infantry status. Some people spend countless hours helping others, and want to reward their results as well as incentivizing new people to help as well.

To register a “win” in the program, the assistance must have provided hands-on help trimming, building, and/or fitting of said armor for the person who was awarded Expert Infantry status.

Other program notes:

• Helping remotely, giving advice, or taking payment in exchange for help does not account, all work must be voluntary and without expectation of compensation.

• The assistance must be for a period of 30 minutes or more. Spending 15 minutes tweaking someone’s fitting or taking photos does not count.

• "wins" can be retroactive, e.g. if you helped 5 people in 2017 already, those can count as long as they are fully documented.

Award Levels

armorer_award_b.png •  5+ “wins”: FISD Armorer Badge

armorer_award_s.png • 15+ “wins” FISD Senior Armorer Badge

armorer_award_m.png • 25+ “wins” FISD Master Armorer Badge

The process

• Person applying for the award will create an application thread to track the help they give.

• For each “win”, they will list the person they helped achieve Expert Infantry status by copying their EI approval thread.

• For each “win”, the person who was helped will validate that this person helped them. You can find the master award area here https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/182-fisd-master-armorer-program

Are you an approved TK that spends more time on the boards than the average Trooper?  Do you enjoy using your knowledge to help out future and existing Troopers?  If so, we would like to invite you to join the Imperial Attaché program!

Members of the I.A. team are chosen to help out not only those here on the boards, but on a local level as well.  Our aim is to have at least one in each and every Garrison, Squad and Outpost in the entire legion to be the eyes and ears of the FISD on a local level.

A suggested level of EIB or above is preferred, as part of the duties include assisting those aiming for levels 2 and 3, but is not a requirement.  Being active on the boards on a regular basis , welcoming new members and helping out where you can is, though.

Some of the benefits:

1.  Access to exclusive Attaché merch., including patches, etc.

2.  Having the Imperial Attaché title under your name.

3.  Being a part of the team that welcomes new and prospective members of the FISD.

4.  Being the "go-to" person in your Garrison, Squad or Outpost.

5.  Exclusive access to the Attaché HQ area, Imperial Propaganda Machine (newsletter) and merchandise discussions.

Well we made it through 2020. It’s been an odd one and a mentally exhausting one but we made it. I know like myself trooping is a form of stress relief for some people. I don’t think we will be getting back to heavy trooping soon but we have remained positive in the detachment.

We’ve seen some good milestones this year, a few new attaches and a lot of builds. Congrats to all who were upgraded to EI and Centurion, job well done. Thank you to all attaches, and troopers who have kept this detachment moving and also a big welcome to all the new people this year. This truly is the best detachment.

Lastly a big thank you to Andrew for putting in a lot of personal time making things run smoothly. This is my first year working with him and I was surprised as to what’s involved with making things run smoothly and how much dedication he has for the detachment. I’m proud to be part of his team.

I look forward to moving forward into 2021 and having another great detachment year.

Update Your Fire Team Info:

Hi all,

I've been doing some housekeeping in the approved Fire Team area, mainly to make all the posts in a uniform, easy to see format.  The original post were in a different forum theme and those font colors were hard to see in the current theme.

Anyway, please check any teams you may be a part of and see if they are still active, members up to date and the logo still works.

Please contact me directly if any of your information is incorrect or you need your logo updated. For the full list of Fire Teams here

Thanks!

So what exactly are EIB (Expert Infantry Badge) and Centurion levels?

These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval.  It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize!

It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work.  The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL

Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about:

1.  "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper.  Can I still apply?  Of course!  These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines.  There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions.

2.  "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"?  The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area.  While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy.  All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/

While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL).

3.  "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"?  Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box.

4.  "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"?  In a word... absolutely!

5.  "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"?  Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin.  You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature.  Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well.

6.  "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"?   After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint:  Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help).  These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site.  While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out.  If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly.  Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit!   After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion.

Photo Checklists

To make it easier (and faster) to get you approved, we have updated the Photo Requirement checklists for both OT and FO and included visual examples of what we as D.O.s are looking for in order to move you along at an expedited rate.

These can be found here:

Expert Infantry:  (For all non-FOTK costumes)

Centurion:  (For all non-FOTK costumes)

FOTK:  (EI and Centurion)

Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just ask away here on the forum.

Social Media - Editor At Large

Here are the 2020 end-of-the-year insights from our social media front:

grafik.png

The number of our page followers on facebook is stable and slowly growing, probably hitting 16.000 until the end of this term. :)

grafik.png

Our facbook group has overgrown the number of 3.000 members in the second half of the year. We can be very proud of this achievement. It turned out that this group is an important point of interest for potential new members of the FISD!

grafik.png

The FISD instagram account enjoys great attention and is on it's best way to 3.500 followers. With some good Christmas content for the end of the year we will probably hit this mark faster than a scout trooper a tree on Endor! If you haven't already - make sure to follow us on instagram!

grafik.png

Our profile visits on twitter have grown lately. Therefore the tweet impressions and mentions have not. We'll have to put some more effort into our twitter account for quartal 1 in 2021. Make sure to check out new content coming up on twitter for the next few months.

Thanks to all our fans and friends, following us and thanks to the fantastic PR team working inexhaustibly to hold up our great content!

Hi Glen!  Can you add the following for me?  (Edit as needed).  Thanks!

For the EI Pin area

IMPORTANT:  For those Troopers who attained Expert Infantry level before Sept. 16, 2020 and missed this run, it will re-open after all the VICTORY 1000 patches have been mailed out (hopefully before Christmas) so keep an eye out!

In the D.O. staff area  (Anything to add, @shashachu or @TKSpartan?

Just a note from the D.O. Staff to say how very proud we are to have a record number of Troopers who have earned their Centurion badge in the last 4 weeks!  You have certainly kept us busy, but we appreciate each and every one who has submitted, so keep em' coming and know that we are here to help if you need it!

Tut tut, very tardy. FYI this issue closed Monday and this isn't the newsletter prep area, but I've added the info just because it's you.

I'm disappointed in you all. Perfect opportunity for a "Merry Sithmas" or "I find your lack of cheer disturbing" and you didn't take it? for shame!

XD XD XD
