Advanced Tactics Awards Public Relations Staff List 2020 Follow FISD On the 18th of July, 2020 Mathew Bedogni (TK-6280 of Outpost 42 Garrison) passed away. Mat was an exceptionally driven man who gave his time in service of multiple communities. In addition to his Star Wars costuming, Mat celebrated his combined love of sci-fi and vehicles by making his own “Back to the Future” replica car and producing the documentary "DeLorean – Living the Dream.” Though his accomplishments were far reaching, Mat was humble and preferred cheering for a cause from the background. Mat is survived by his adoring wife Tara and their children Alex and Edward. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. "Buckets Off" On the 31st of August, 2020 Aaron Orlando Landeros Hernandez (IS-9929) passed away. Aaron was a cherished member of Skull Garrison. And he returned that respect in making his garrison’s distinctive logo. Aaron shared that love with every costume and every prop he created for others. He was a joy to be around and held his Legion Family close. Aaron is survived by his adoring wife Ximena and their daughter Sophie. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. "Buckets Off" On the 31st of July, 2020 Donald David Dunn (aka Dave, TK-10436) passed away. Dave was a hard working member of the Makaze Squad of the Florida Garrison. Credited with three hundred and six troops, Dave was sure to be on hand for hospital events. He is remembered as gentle, kind and helpful. Dave is survived by his wife Cindy and his children, Anthony, Donny, Danny and Cynthia. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. "Buckets Off" On the 25th of June, 2020 Kevin Lehning passed away. Kevin (BH-669) was an early member of the 501st Midwest Garrison. His quality-made all-black custom Mandalorian armor speaks well of a nostalgic era in the 501st Legion history. Kevin enjoyed costuming for costuming sake with interests spanning many fandoms. Kevin also was known for his love of fast cars and loud music. Kevin will be remembered for the enthusiastic support of his fellow troopers. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. "Buckets Off" On the 31st of August, 2020 Claudia Ivette Guerrero Ramírez (ID-25015) passed away. Claudia was a most caring and helpful member of the Imperial City Squad of the Mexican Garrison. Claudia enjoyed trooping at and supporting blood drives. Forever smiling, she followed her calling to help others as a Doctor, evaluating patients during the 2020 pandemic. Claudia is survived by her daughter Andrea. Our condolences go out to her family and friends. "Buckets Off" On the 29th of April, 2019 Oscar Cerda Ramírez (SL-21171) passed away. Oscar was a member of the Costa Rica Garrison, noted for his kind nature and generosity. It comes as no surprise that he enjoyed the opportunity to troop charity events most. Oscar was a teacher and his students admired his second life as an Imperial. Oscar had donated his costumes before he passed and members of his beloved garrison wore them at his funeral with honor. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. "Buckets Off" On the 15th of July, 2020 Eduardo Bejarano Espejo passed away. Eduardo is a much loved Legion Brother (ID-16876) in the Legión 501 - Garrison Perú. Known for his thorough knowledge of pop culture and sci-fi, Eduardo was proud to promote the growth of his Garrison and the 501st Legion presence in Perú. Eduardo will be remembered as the entertaining gentleman for both his humor and wit. Eduardo is survived by his loving wife Carol. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. "Buckets Off" Greetings troopers August shot by like a laser bolt from a DLT-19, here we find ourselves in September already, and where has the year gone!! 2020 is certainly throwing curve balls left and right but here at FISD we are still soldiering along, albeit with a slightly diminished staff and member capacity due to Covid and real life being vastly different for people this year. With a detachment the size of FISD, it takes a lot more than that to grind us to a halt, and what a month September has been. It's HUGE as is this addition of the newsletter with so much to cover off on, so I will touch on a few highlights and you can read the guts of everything further down in this edition.. This is indeed the FISD celebration, 2020 had to have The March to 1000 campaign finally hit is target of 1000 EI's approved and it is now time to celebrate the victory. I am proud of every single one of the EI's involved in taking their armour a step closer to accuracy and playing a part in this grand event. We revealed the special merch item a week ago "Victory 1000", 11" patch and the sales thread goes live with the release of this news letter. We also revealed the exclusive to the 1000 EI's an additional item of merch in the form of a pin. Details for both of these reside down in the merch section below. These are separate runs but will be open concurrently and strictly open for 4 weeks only so dont miss out. I also had the privileged to award an FISD achievement award, and as many know, these don't get presented very often. Congratulations to Anthony Paladino TK TK10666( aka Redforce) Rogue One Stormtrooper CRL The well overdue update to this has finally completed with an almost total re-write. This has added much needed clarity to many aspects of this costume reference, making it far easier for builders and GML's alike to understand. We have also added some additional accessories and removed a few grey areas and ANH parts that didn't belong in this version of the TK. Members currently working on this costume now have the option of building it to the old CRL as we will offer a grace period if you are already well underway, or make minor adjustments and build to the new version. Bare in mind when CRL's are updated the previous items are grandfathered in. This does not effect your ability to troop, it would only mean you need to follow the current iterations if you decided to go for Expert Infantry or Centurion. That's it from me this edition, enjoy the read and get on the forums. We have plenty happening and more exciting news to come in the near future. With Unquestioned Loyalty Andrew Franke TK11469 "Sly11" Detachment Leader Congratulations to our 1000 Expert Infantry With our 1000th EIB and March to 1000 now complete we take a look back to where it all began, bare with me as a lot of information is buried deep down and some has been lost over the years, I'm sure @Daetrin can chime in but this is what I have uncovered. Initially conceived by our detachment founder Paul "Daetrin" TK8020 back in 2006, here is the first outline of the program https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/5-expert-infantryman-badge-eib-program-overview/ In January 2007 a name had to be found https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/560-we-need-a-name-for-deployment/ discussed and a poll went up https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/633-poll-deployent-name/ the winning name being "Mark" (IV, V, VI). This name stuck for a little while but in August 2007 there was another poll https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/1347-deployment-name-poll/ this time it was decided the program would be called "Elite". In March 2009 a new poll went up to come up with a new name https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/6378-changing-elite-to-something-else/page/5/ with now outcome and in the end our detachment founder Paul decided on the name Expert Infantryman https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/6378-changing-elite-to-something-else/?do=findComment&comment=82088 his post below: "In the end I decided to re-brand our program as "Expert Infantry", with Elite troopers becoming Expert Infantryman. This is based on the Expert Infantryman Badge in the U.S. Army - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expert_Infantry_Badge for more info." From the Propstore: A Stormtrooper costume from the Disney Plus sci-fi series Star Wars: The Mandalorian. Stormtroopers appeared throughout the series in costumes created by the 501st Legion, a fan group dedicated to creating screen-accurate Stormtrooper suits. This costume, a 501st original later worn during production, includes a hand-painted plastic helmet with a tinted green visor, a pair of plated plastic shoulder armor pieces with connected elastic straps, a plated plastic front and back body armor piece with a snap-button closure, a pair of rubber gloves with dense rubber plates, a plastic, polyester, and leather belt, a pair each of plastic thigh and leg armor, and a pair of leather Requisite boots (U.K. size 43), all in the signature Stormtrooper white with black and metallic details. A metal-studded leather blaster holster is also included, though holsters were removed from costumes and not used during filming of the show. The costume is in good overall condition with visible cracks throughout from wear, some frayed elastic, and bending to the visor. Star Wars & Sims Star Wars is coming to The Sims 4 on September 8, 2020, with a slew of new features inspired by a galaxy far, far away. UPDATE: The First Order Battle Group has two new costume build areas due to the recent images of the Black Series Captain Cardinal and Commander Pyre, you can find them here: Captain Cardinal: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/227-captain-cardinal/ Commander Pyre: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/229-commander-pyre/ INFORMATION & AWARD PROGRAMS It has indeed been a long time since we have awarded a member this accolade (2018 in fact), and it's rarity makes it all that more important to an awardee and the detachment at large. Anthony Paladino TK10666( aka Redforce) is one such trooper worthy of this accolade for his meritorious behavior. Anthony has continued to support his fellow troopers through the attaché system, initially earning him the attaché award. Anthony again stepped up recently to helm a rather large patch run which ran its course in a record time from the first post in the sales thread, to the last package posted. Not only has this run just wrapped up but Anthony is now helping Joseph with the 11' Victory 1000 patch run, educating him on his excellent system of organizing and shipping packages, lets also add to this that he has also offered to write up a "How to" of what he does to make a merch run fast and efficient, something the detachment will continue to benefit from now, and into the future. Please join me in congratulating Anthony on this achievement of excellence. To help you @justjoseph63 has started a list of the most commonly used ones that will give you some insight. If you have ANY questions about a particular term that is not listed or suggestions for new ones please contact Joseph. You can find the list here Pre Approval Forum allows future Troopers the opportunity to submit photos of their completed build to be reviewed by the Staff, Imperial Attaches and others in preparation for forwarding it to their GML for approval. Any and all advice/suggestions given will be specific, constructive, helpful and respectful. Please note that this program will NOT take the place of your local GML, as Detachments are not chartered for costume approval and can not override a GMLs decision, but is instead a peer review program designed to help you look your best and offer guidance and positive feedback. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your completed armor, weapons (if applicable), accessories, etc. and get accurate information from the experts here at the FISD.. the definitive home of TKs worldwide. Simply start (or update!) your troop log, keep the running total in the title, and post (at least!) a date and name for the official 501st event where you wore your TK! Once you've hit a milestone count, go over to the "Field Exercise Awards -- Post your milestones here" thread to request your profile be updated! Simple, right? Milestone post example: Milestone and Troop Log Title: [100] TK12345 My troop log Date and Event: 8/23/2019 -- Death Star Cooking Class Photo: Pictures are not required, but are highly encouraged! Your picture may end up in the Stormtrooper Hall of Fame Award Recipients August - September TK69103 "Twosolitudes" Robert - TK19511 "Freduster" Freddy - Congratulations troopers The FISD Master Armorer program is an optional, detachment only incentive award to recognize individuals who have directly helped another 501st stormtrooper to achieve Expert Infantry status. Some people spend countless hours helping others, and want to reward their results as well as incentivizing new people to help as well. To register a “win” in the program, the assistance must have provided hands-on help trimming, building, and/or fitting of said armor for the person who was awarded Expert Infantry status. Other program notes: • Helping remotely, giving advice, or taking payment in exchange for help does not account, all work must be voluntary and without expectation of compensation. • The assistance must be for a period of 30 minutes or more. Spending 15 minutes tweaking someone’s fitting or taking photos does not count. • "wins" can be retroactive, e.g. if you helped 5 people in 2017 already, those can count as long as they are fully documented. Award Levels • 5+ “wins”: FISD Armorer Badge • 15+ “wins” FISD Senior Armorer Badge • 25+ “wins” FISD Master Armorer Badge The process • Person applying for the award will create an application thread to track the help they give. • For each “win”, they will list the person they helped achieve Expert Infantry status by copying their EI approval thread. • For each “win”, the person who was helped will validate that this person helped them. You can find the master award area here https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/182-fisd-master-armorer-program Are you an approved TK that spends more time on the boards than the average Trooper? Do you enjoy using your knowledge to help out future and existing Troopers? If so, we would like to invite you to join the Imperial Attaché program! Members of the I.A. team are chosen to help out not only those here on the boards, but on a local level as well. Our aim is to have at least one in each and every Garrison, Squad and Outpost in the entire legion to be the eyes and ears of the FISD on a local level. A suggested level of EIB or above is preferred, as part of the duties include assisting those aiming for levels 2 and 3, but is not a requirement. Being active on the boards on a regular basis , welcoming new members and helping out where you can is, though. Some of the benefits: 1. Access to exclusive Attaché merch., including patches, etc. 2. Having the Imperial Attaché title under your name. 3. Being a part of the team that welcomes new and prospective members of the FISD. 4. Being the "go-to" person in your Garrison, Squad or Outpost. 5. Exclusive access to the Attaché HQ area, Imperial Propaganda Machine (newsletter) and merchandise discussions. Things are starting to book for October so we’ll see how it goes. But on a high note the staff would like to welcome a few new attaches to the ranks. First off is 11b30b4, Eric will be helping us out in the Georgia area with his knowledge of the Rouge One TK. Secondly is Hoda, Eric will be filling the North Texas Squad spot. He’s got a good amount of knowledge with the ANH stunt and hero as well as the ESB TK. Thirdly is Tarok, Rudi will be filling the Knightfall Garrison spot in Australia. He will be helping out with his TK stunt knowledge as well as working towards his EIB status. Feel free to pick their brain either online or in person. And as already stated a big thank you to Eric Ho (Hoda) who stepped up and has been doing all the trading cards for the detachment. Eric was awarded the Attaché Award for all the hard work he’s done in helping get the trading cards back on track. The staff thanks all of them for going above and beyond and helping others. With Unquestioned Loyalty Frank Peranteau TK75139 "Frank75139" Attaché Ambassador So what exactly are EIB (Expert Infantry Badge) and Centurion levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. EIB https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/ Centurion https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/ Photo Checklists To make it easier (and faster) to get you approved, we have updated the Photo Requirement checklists for both OT and FO and included visual examples of what we as D.O.s are looking for in order to move you along at an expedited rate. These can be found here: Expert Infantry: (For all non-FOTK costumes) Centurion: (For all non-FOTK costumes) FOTK: (EI and Centurion) Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just ask away here on the forum. This area lists all those who have gone above and beyond basic approval toward screen accuracy. JZYL Posted September 17, 2020 Report Posted September 17, 2020 There's a very scary question I have to ask... That's a lot of people in memoriam Is it normal (and maybe I haven't been paying attention to it), just a random blip, delays in notification due to the pandemic causing them to all get notification at once, or causalities of the pandemic itself? Daetrin[Admin] Posted September 17, 2020 Report Posted September 17, 2020 I am blown away by the deep dive in to the archives by Glen to get the history of the Expert Infantry program unearthed, truly an immense undertaking that speaks to his dauntless character. I hope this gets copied out of the newsletter and posted to a sticky in the EI area as a memorial. A few fine points: after trying out the "Mark" system no one was happy as "Mark" didn't seem to mean anything, so we went with "Elite". This caused some to think that we were being "Elitist" so once again we had to change it. At that point I took it upon myself to create a name and theme that best matched our lineage, as much of our branding is either from the U.S. Army infantry branch, or the 501st Legion scheme seen in Revenge of the Sith. Thank you so much for doing this, as it brought a tear to my eye for the memories. 3 Quote

No definitely not normal, we can go months without seeing someone pass. I did notice though that the dates are quite widespread, this can happen depending on when the legion receives the information and when it is investigated, confirmed and then posted. Quote

Thank you for the kind words Paul, was a fun visit through the past, it's a shame some info and images are no longer available but still I'm sure others will enjoy the read 2 Quote

Daetrin[Admin] Posted September 18, 2020 Report Posted September 18, 2020 I may be biased, but I think it was amazing. The EI history research and presentation was over the top 3000 cool. Can't cupcake enough on it. 3 Quote

It seems like getting to 100 EI was a pipe dream a dozen years ago, but the outstanding community that continues at the FISD blew that out of the water. 5 Quote
