Nada[TK] Posted February 25, 2020 Author Report Posted February 25, 2020 Really hating shims atm for my torso just makes so many problems how they naturally sit:How they sit in tucked in (doesn’t work half the time due to weight lose)Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted February 25, 2020 Report Posted February 25, 2020 A little heat to curve them or some even use tabs behind which hold the sides in. Quote

What tabs to you suggest? You can use a hot water bath, some have had success with that. For adding tabs behind it could be as simple as adding some rectangles of scrap ABS or plastic sign, add two on one side and two on the other side but stagger those then they will interlock. Quote

This might work! Thanks for that. This might make it sit a lot better and keep it from flaring out. Should be the last thing I would need to do for my shim. Quote
Nada[TK] Posted February 26, 2020 Author Report Posted February 26, 2020 Putting this build on hold to further notice. Quote
Nada[TK] Posted March 8, 2020 Author Report Posted March 8, 2020 (edited) I have moved in back into university. So my build will continue but at a slower rate. I have tried to work on my helmet more but ended up ruining my ears I don't believe I can get my helmet to standards by myself. I am planning to buy a pre-built but keep my original helmet to work on it over time after my build maybe for a present for my dad. Hopefully over the next week or so I will receive my backpack with ABS that matches my Armour. I am also resizing my thighs so they look a lot better they are pretty large after trimming working on this ATM. I have also looked into @husky68 build thread for his ab and kidney plate strapping. It is an amazing way of doing it and this might be the best for me after a hot water bath on my kidney armour. Edited March 8, 2020 by Nada 2 Quote
Nada[TK] Posted March 9, 2020 Author Report Posted March 9, 2020 The thighs have begone. WIP still working on a nice fit for them they look a lot better now with the resizing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

The left side was a bit tedious with effort to get around the rivets. To do it all over again, or for the first time in your case, I might consider just building up around the rivets then making it simpler and larger like my right side. would require few more mm of space but perhaps worth it. Also I would install the rivets first, I spent a lot of time and care to leave proper space for them to be installed later which seemed backwards to me now. I had designed a position locking system but never put it in as friction seemed enough to hold it in place. Only once or twice has a side come loose so adding a lock might be a future modification. PM me is you want to discuss. Quote
Nada[TK] Posted March 10, 2020 Author Report Posted March 10, 2020 Thigh resizing has been done and this is how it looks this is a size compassion between the size of my thighs.Resized:Before:Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
Nada[TK] Posted March 14, 2020 Author Report Posted March 14, 2020 Full suit up today (HWT) but the thighs and that look way better. Before the main issue yes these are still my old shims that are falling apart still haven’t got the new abs. Issues I have found is my sniper knee shin likes to move around a lot, Butt plate separates to much in some places going to fully redo its strapping. Any issues you find please point them out. 2 Quote
Sn4k3 Posted March 14, 2020 Report Posted March 14, 2020 Great work Nada, don't give up, your armor is looking good, you just need to address those small details you already know, be patient, work on your armor whenever y5pu can, remember, your studies are important.Sent from my GM1900 using Tapatalk Quote
Tarragon[TK] Posted March 14, 2020 Report Posted March 14, 2020 I would trim an arch on the front of each shin, so that the shin sits closer to your boot. Quote

As well as my new helmet both getting them from David Conklin who I got my kit off. Also bought the latex hand guards, rubber gloves and a helmet bag so I have everything just have to wait nowSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Nada[TK] Posted April 2, 2020 Author Report Posted April 2, 2020 Come to a point I’ve decided I’m going to lose weight instead of try shims. I might try shims if I feel motivated to try.Think this is the best decision for me to make due to me adding level 3 rivets and the snap to my ab armour making me have to hit that quality for my approval. I don’t think I can achieve this at my weight at all. I have bought rubber gloves and latex hand guards to go for EIB or Centurion after I lose the weight also have a pre-made helmet (AM helmet) coming so I won’t need to worry about my ears anymore.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote

Nada[TK] Posted April 11, 2020 Author Report Posted April 11, 2020 (edited) Took off the shims today to stop me from wearing it. Don’t some small modifications current the butt plate into the right shape and removing the return edge around my back plate Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited April 11, 2020 by Nada 2 Quote
Nada[TK] Posted April 13, 2020 Author Report Posted April 13, 2020 Also have fixed most of my strapping my back armour sits great butt plate doesn’t move now and sits flush. I have also fixed the front but am still going to tighten it more so it sits better on me. I’ve got to tighten one of my drop boxes but other then that need to add some strapping to my shins to keep them straight when wearing it especially my sniper knee. Nada[TK] Posted April 14, 2020 Author Report Posted April 14, 2020 Test gluing my drop boxes on my belt instead of just fastening them, I have also cutting the belt to 5mm gap at the top and bottom. As well as currently cleaning my belt due to some stains that’s been put on it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

husky68[TK] Posted April 14, 2020 Report Posted April 14, 2020 Are the drop boxes lined up to the end of the belt of just to the corner cut edge? Should be end of belt I think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

Was going off this picture Hi Trooper, great improvements Trooper. I would suggest to consider in advance for higher levels to make some adjustment to your belt as the Crl states for level 3 : Drop boxes are vertically aligned with the end of the ammo belt with minimal gap between belt and box. The corners of the plastic ammo belt shall be trimmed at a 45 degree angle that that meets the outer edge of the cloth belt. reference photo of the alignment of the belt and canvas. Note that the drop boxes are behind just for the picture, they must go aligned under the plastic tabs of the ammo belt with minimal or no gap as suggested. . Keep on being safe and doing a great job. 1 Quote
