Honestly you may need that Cod piece there to test fit. your gonna have pinching issues if your keep them that high, imo

Try to cut and/or assemble more mid/lower pieces (taped of course) before gluing to see if it looks and feels right.  Have a pencil ready to make light marks if more cutting is necessary.

 

If it comes to it, it’s not entirely impossible to undo the gluing if adjustments are needed.

I would leave them like that for now, do the torso then roughly tape the shins (with boots on!), you can then gauge gap ratio (if any) between armour before committing to anything.
It's often a good idea to leave more room at the top of the thighs when you finalise everything as your thigh muscles can expand as your walking so may need a little more room.
