That part may need to flex a lot. I would leave a minimal return edge. A mm or two. Any larger it could crack. Taper those edges down for non poking comfort.

So working on those shins: 1/4 inch return edge on top, nothing on the bottom is what I'm seeing out there. Any other thoughts?

1/4 is a lot....

 

i'd remove at the bottom for comfort, and to keep your boots from getting all chewed up by your shins.

 

Top i'd start at 1/8 and remove more for comfort
