Alright, I think the scope is just about done. Hollowing now done, had to file out the a little on the smaller end by hand just to get the small lense a snug fit.

You can just about see the target reticle in the photo I think, pretty hard to get a picture of it! Looks much better in the flesh, honest! Lol

The big lens is sitting a tiny bit off centre at the moment, but I'm hoping to put something down the side to centre it better, then I can fill in any spaces with green stuff and it should all meet up nicely.

Just trying to work out the painting plan though: think I'll start just by spraying some paint down the inside of the scope to black it out. Then I can install the big lens, do the putty etc, then go for the full spray and lastly stick in the small lens 01a47d3d92667250711555f3d869682e.jpgf4c05a92463a9f5a7f461285666fd4b6.jpg16ddc37a9fab526369e31c58b59bbace.jpg953e5e38b0a23bbdd3fd12ad7c996143.jpg

Looking good, nice precision work here Tom! I have to jot down your progression of steps for when I get to this step, sounds right

Thanks Jesse! Don't jot anything down yet though... better wait and see if the plan works first haha

Nice job on the scope. It'll look fantastic with some paint!

Cheers, Brien, I'm really looking forward to the painting, gonna be another learning curve though, my only experience painting is doing some DIY decorating for the old dear!

That scope looks beautiful, Tom. Really good work!

Regarding your painting plan: yes, you should do the inside of the scope first, then attach the lenses, mask them and give it the outer spray coat.

For painting the inside I suggest to use a brush, as spray paint will cause a lot of paint tears inside your scope.

Thanks Tino, it's a relief to know it's going well! Great idea RE using the brush, yet another thing I hadn't though of!

I'm wondering if anyone has some nice shots of their power cylinders? From a few different angles if possible? The links in the Blaster Reference Guide don't seem to work so I'm trying to work out what goes where...

Hey Tom.

Great work so far. :-)

There’s a superb pinned post about power cylinders below the Blaster Reference post.m in the weapons section. Shows a selection of different versions of the cylinders.

In the meantime, here’s a few angles of mine, if that helps. :-)

Ahh nice one! That helps a lot, been trying to figure out what to do with the textured cable for ages haha

I'll have to have another look at that link, I looked before (on my phone) but it seemed to be about sound effects and lighting... I'll check it on my pc ;)

WHAT??? :shok: ;) Just checked it and except of one broken link, everything seems to work. Maybe it was just an issue with browsing via phone. Anyway, that PDF file is the most important thing. The broken link belongs to my "HOWTO make your power cylinders more accurate" tutorial, which seems to got lost in the recent forum upgrade. Cannot find it since then...

Thanks for keeping him covered so fast. :duim:

Hiya.

I found these pics from Tino’s build very helpful.

To give you enough room for the cable/wire at the back, perhaps a mil or two poking through.
If your greenstuff is still ‘wet’, you could possibly go a little smaller/flatter on those bits, if you wanted. Not essential though. :-)

Updates! End cap clip now done. Cut the original clip itself out of the holder, and after a lot of sanding, got it down to the right size to fit in Tino's aluminium holder. Nearly drilled the holes too wonky, as usual lol but got the nail through in the end haha. Also installed a bit of spring left over from the trigger into the back of the clip. Drilled a hole of about 4mm for thi's so the spring actually just sits in nicely and is held in place by force rather than glue.

Little more work on the power cylinders too just installed the nuts and bolts on the ends

Looking great, Tom.
If you wanted, you could shape the aluminium channel a little. Check out Jesse’s (Dracotrooper) thread as he is doing some really detailed work on, well, on every single bit! ;-)

You are absolutely sailing along here Tom! Thanks for the kudos Dan and here are some of the more relevant pics from my WIP.

Here are some design considerations as well - rounding out the edges here and there if you like, following SMG references.

Think I'm definitely gonna pinch the idea to round off the edges if the channel, I was thinking it looked a little blocky and angular... but that's as far as my thinking got me lol

Thanks the for pointer too, Dan, good move!

Little more work done tonight: end cap completed with a nice cubby for the D ring and holder to sit in. The circular groove is a little wide at the moment but will sort that out with some green stuff once glued into place.

How is it looking? Ready for glue? I assume I've got it the right way up! Haha

Also a little work on the front sight: by the time I'd separated it out of the one piece block you get with Doopies, I had to build it back up again with green stuff. I think I've more or less covered the same dimensions as the Doopies was, though I've taken the sides down lower to place the little grub (which goes on the right... right?). Still to make the little grooves on either side54695dfef1a481b6975ad24e0f121a8d.jpg0555754768508ec35d03fb4baddbda74.jpgbd63129f33901d1043ba13dcd063facb.jpgda59df78ad03246a4e0aab05af651bcc.jpg5d2620d4f2908623bf697cc25772d8c5.jpgba7cb49f9ab09c77b5809a28bfa0d670.jpg

Superb work on the end cap and ring holder.

Not sure if that small grub screw in the front sight is always on the right side, as I understood this block to be removable. That being said, I guess you can insert it the other way, too. Maybe someone with a real Sterling chimes in to enlighten us...

Busy couple of days but managed to get a little work done. Finished off the power cylinders (yay) and also the front sight :)

Started painting a few more bits too, though I don't have any pics of these yet. Nothing major, priming the charging handle, end cap, end cap clip.

Almost at a roadblock actually, I've got some aluminium on order for the counter bracket, should be here Monday. And I've got a real sterling folding stock on its way too, god knows when that'll be here though lol

On another note, it's BBB day! Thanks to Ross (RWA) for the kit, and his excellent work on the lid, much better job than I could ever have done!0a14f8536205e59c4e7b4b151196ffbe.jpgeae8e9c059987a7dee9aeb767fb28fd6.jpge49a86a6b6a02dc030c011d7d0690a4c.jpgca8ad9b29057b78d8b8fa367dd59cb93.jpgc722a9725bddface70effd34b5586ce1.jpg

Who are these people and what did I get myself into? There are so many incredible builds going on here...

The comment about "working model" is true, this thing is SO detailed. Big ups!
