Dracotrooper Posted January 16, 2019 Author Report Posted January 16, 2019 Hey Great work with the capacitors. Shape and size are perfect. The only thing that you should think about is the diameter of the wires of your caps and resistors. They are much to big. It will be hard to make the front connection. A smaller wire makes the job much easier. 0.7mm (1/36“) is the diameter of the Original ones. Here some pictures to show the difference. Cheers ChristianThanks for lending your eye for detail my way. I figured I needed thicker wires for the capacitors to hold the resisters in place, I plan to solder. Also, as my resister wiring are also 1/16".Now that I have the wire thickness of the real deal, I may just upgrade my wiring. I will see...Thanks for the tips!Sent from my SM-G390W using Tapatalk Quote
Dracotrooper Posted January 17, 2019 Author Report Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) My mark 3.0 central capacitors. Thanks again for the tips Christian. Added some color too before inserting the 0.65mm wire (couldn't get .70mm). Now curing will take place with my capacitor ends at the right color. Resisters also had wire upgrades. Green stuff to fill in the larger hole ahead of time, now wires are snug. Thanks for following my crazy adventure!!! Bulldog44[TK] Posted January 18, 2019 Report Posted January 18, 2019 Looking sweet! The thinner wires as Christian recommended look much better too. Sometimes just a slight shift in size/scale can make the difference. 1 Quote

I had wondered seeing the thick wires of the earlier version. Your completion kit should contain a wire for the three central capacitors. It is item #19. Was it missing? Quote

Sure, sticking with your wires would provide similar results anywaysSent from my SM-G390W using Tapatalk Quote
PatrickM Posted January 25, 2019 Report Posted January 25, 2019 Hi Jesse, didn’t realize you were also still running a build thread. What a ride you’ve had so far! Did/will you install a new BlastFX module? What an incredible mods you performed!!! Some of those I wouldn’t even dare trying with my limited mechanical skills... But certainly a great source of inspiration! Looking forward to the next update. Quote

After short circuiting one last year, need time to gather the funds. I'm trying to fit in time to finish off my power cylinders ... been hard pressed with work and personal life getting busy. Thanks for the encouraging words! Having a great deal of learning with my builds, it's been quite the ride. Sent from my SM-G390W using Tapatalk 1 Quote

After reading your story I will make sure that all glue has dried before powering the electronics! I’m also struggling somewhat to maintain the momentum from the Christmas holidays. Life does get in the way of living sometimes, but we’ll get there. 1 Quote
Dracotrooper Posted February 15, 2019 Author Report Posted February 15, 2019 Ooooh, it's been a while since I posted. Had a slew of activities then 30cm of snow fell! Being in doors and between snow shoveling...managed to get the bulk of my power cylinders completed. Some notables is installing a small square nut on the base plate and countersunk hole underneath. All indicative of how the cylinders were lifted out off 50s British military equipment (History and Analysis PDF, Andy) I was going for Shape A for the backplate but in somehow messing up the final central capacitor installs, had it riding up too much and feared breaking the resin if made curve more pronounced than I had it. I didn't want to risk breakage as I'm having the doopydoos resin back and bottom plate holding up my upgraded aluminum outer cylinders. I got inspiration from Andy to create the ceramic tubing the way I did it. Pretty pleased how they turned out. Installing of the resisters was a bit tricky. Had to measure out insulation sleeves before soldering the supporting metal wires to the wires of the central capacitors. Had to consider angles and functionality of the sleeves purpose of keep metal wires from touching. But man!!! This was really the most micro project of the entire blaster I think. So many tiny considerations to carry out. As you can see from some photos...it is a bit lop sided but I'm hoping it isn't all that noticeable when installed on top of the magazine housing. ....apart from paint touch ups...am I missing anything? Please give me a shout and cheers! Thanks for dropping by. Sent from my SM-G390W using Tapatalk 6 Quote

Dracotrooper Posted February 16, 2019 Author Report Posted February 16, 2019 Excellent work on the cylinders. Thanks! The community has been very supportive and encouraging of my near-finish, so great! Thanks all!!Remember your ideal of using sticky tack to attach parts that dont need to be permanently attached? I used sticky tack to keep my two set of front end caps in place. I then followed up with black liquid masking tape. I am hoping when I want to take out the caps, the dried black liquid will bend with the sticky tack. Thought I'd mention this ideal if you haven't thought of it.Sent from my SM-G390W using Tapatalk Quote
Dracotrooper Posted February 21, 2019 Author Report Posted February 21, 2019 (edited) Hi all, I've gone and captured the final details of my power cylinders. I added the wing stubs and also dabs of grey on the ends of my resisters to mimic wiring. Also black washed my central capacitors. This isn't screen accurate but I do like how they POP especially how 'dirty' they've become. It was a complete joy getting the insulation sleeve black washed, leaving the large hint of exposed red on top to keep that part screen accurate. Sprayed Matt clear coat to seal everything. I'm FINALLY ready to walk away from this E-11 component, thanks for following me =) Edited February 21, 2019 by Dracotrooper 2 Quote

Dracotrooper Posted March 13, 2019 Author Report Posted March 13, 2019 Hello all! Some more progress...this time on my end cap. After noticing the well that fitted the ring retainer was done too wide, in-filled it with green stuff then automotive filler putty to smooth it out. After gray primer, steel-like paint level, then finally flat black, I ended the paint job with flat clearcoat to seal in the black washing of the d-ring and the slight wear and tear effect of sanding away the black to reveal the 'steel' underneath. Ah, kinda rushed on the clear coat application...drippy at parts. Oh well! In the pictures, I compared mine with fieldmarshalls fine fine replica, great reference! It was nice sanding away Tino's d-ring to remove the gold external coating on it Sent from my SM-G390W using Tapatalk 3 Quote
PatrickM Posted March 13, 2019 Report Posted March 13, 2019 Great result as always! What kind of automotive filler putty did you use? I also noticed that green stuff is not ideal for smoothening out air bubbles and stuff. 1 Quote

I also noticed that green stuff is not ideal for smoothening out air bubbles and stuff. Thanks PatrickM - I used 3M Bondo Spot putty. It lays on like toothpaste and when you use a flat surface to push against it, it fills in the uneven surfaces beneath it. After which it dries fairly quickly and you can sand away with little effort, unlike the bulkiness of the ordinary Bondo which you have to break a sweat to sand down.Sent from my SM-G390W using Tapatalk 1 Quote
Dracotrooper Posted March 14, 2019 Author Report Posted March 14, 2019 Months ago now, I dremeled away my exposed bolt to make way for installing BlastFX. Now although without the electronics, I still need to cover the hole up.I had already fashioned a thin aluminum plate ... today, made way for getting the extractor and plunger in place. I have the more complex shape completed but still need to place the short rod in the narrow compartment.I found a very close look a like piece from my kids broken toys - this is a nice spinoff from being a dad. I trimmed the piece a bit. I then cut in and fashioned a groove in the plate to hold it and enough room for the rod piece later.Sent from my SM-G390W using Tapatalk 2 Quote
Dark PWF[Staff] Posted March 14, 2019 Report Posted March 14, 2019 Beautiful work so far, Jesse! I, too now have many pieces of toys randomly scattered about. I am usually pretty good at ID'ing them, but I have no clue what that one is. Keep at it!! 1 Quote
