Tolo[TK] Posted March 9, 2017 Report Posted March 9, 2017 Hey TK Nerds, I was wondering, did anyone of you have tried rechargeable batteries with the RomFX? With time, I imagine it will get cheaper than getting 9v battery every time I use it. These batteries are getting expensive. But, I'm wondering if they work good with the system. Thanks, Eric 1 Quote

Thanks, Eric Mine runs off a Antigravity 12v/USB 5v power bank. I added a voltage drop to run it at the 9v, though I understand the newer ROM/FXs operate of 12v also. 1 Quote
kman[TK] Posted March 9, 2017 Report Posted March 9, 2017 Yes, it works fine, as long as you can deliver the correct voltage. I use a voltage step-up from a 5V cell charger battery. 1 Quote
Tolo[TK] Posted March 9, 2017 Author Report Posted March 9, 2017 Thanks peeps. I saw on Amazon, charger and 2x 9v batteries for 25$. I was thinking of getting that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted March 9, 2017 Report Posted March 9, 2017 There are rechargeable 9v batteries too. As you've noticed. 1 Quote

Tolo[TK] Posted March 9, 2017 Author Report Posted March 9, 2017 But I was not sure if they are good enough. I have bought dollar store batteries that sucked badly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

If the specific batteries you're trying aren't good or stable, then it might not work. But the theory is sound, so as long as the batteries supply power in the right voltage range, all should be fine. 1 Quote

Tolo[TK] Posted March 10, 2017 Author Report Posted March 10, 2017 Dollar store items suck? I'm shocked!! I get the AA ones for my fans and they do the job. (Yes Duracell will last a bit longer though) But the 9v could not power my RomFX Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
ukswrath[Staff] Posted March 10, 2017 Report Posted March 10, 2017 Does your version use 4AA battery pack? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk Quote
Tolo[TK] Posted March 10, 2017 Author Report Posted March 10, 2017 Does your version use 2x 4AA battery pack? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk No, it only used 1x 9v battery. It's maybe 2 years old. Got it from a Squad mate who bought it brand new and never used it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
ukswrath[Staff] Posted March 10, 2017 Report Posted March 10, 2017 Something wrong with the ROM/FX maybe? Quote
Tolo[TK] Posted March 10, 2017 Author Report Posted March 10, 2017 When I use a good quality batterie, like a Duracell, I have no issue. It was only with the cheap brand. Quote
TK256[TK] Posted March 10, 2017 Report Posted March 10, 2017 Hey guys, All my ROM/FX kits from day one do indeed work with either a 9v PP3 battery or 8 x AA's giving 12v. Basically, and within reason, you can pretty much use any power source as long as you do not exceed 12 volts. The minimum to power the board is 9 volts. Thanks, John :-) 3 Quote

kman[TK] Posted March 10, 2017 Report Posted March 10, 2017 One word of warning: Make sure the 9v rechargeable is actually rated at 9 volts! Regular Alkaline AA batteries are rated at 1.5v. But rechargeable AAs are usually rated at 1.2 volts. That's fine for most things, but if the "9v" rechargeable is actually 8.6v or something like that, it may not deliver enough juice to the ROM/FX. As long as it's a true 9v, you should be all set. 1 Quote

Dark PWF[Staff] Posted March 10, 2017 Report Posted March 10, 2017 Eric, I tried the rechargeable 9v for awhile. Just didn't last. As much as it is an annoyance to me, as it is to you, this is my solution: One of these batteries will last me for (generally) 5-8 hours, depending on how much I run my mouth. If I can avoid it, I never use any other battery type with my RomFX, as I know that I can trust these ones to deliver those 5-8 hours. Using any others is a gamble I'd rather avoid taking. 1 Quote
