I thought it was something like 3 for the ammo belt, 2 for the thigh ammo pack and 2 for the holster. I think that there are 2 spare bifurcated rivets in my pack somewhere too. Matt Quote

Gwithian Posted October 10, 2017 Author Report Posted October 10, 2017 Today I’ve been strapping the torso together..... I have hand stitched the elastic.... and used bolts to hold the an and kidney together..... the idea is that I can dismantle the torso if I need to trim it down.... which I think I will .... well I’m not known for being tall lolAnyway hopefully first fitting tomorrow and we will take it from therePosition of the rivetsVarious pics of my rather unusual strappingActually the butt and kidney go well togetherPity the same can’t be said fir the back pieceAll strapped togetherAs I said... this is all temporary ... so I can easily dismantle it if need be .... the bolts will be replaced with the split rivets once everything is sorted.... I do think I’m going to have to reduce the torso...... didn’t realise I’m not as tall as I thought/ think .... doh Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote

TheSwede[TK] Posted October 10, 2017 Report Posted October 10, 2017 Looking good and I think the back-piece will be just fine, it will tilt slightely back when wearing it and make it line up better 1 Quote
fragarock[TK] Posted October 10, 2017 Report Posted October 10, 2017 I like the temporary bolt idea. Those RS split rivets are really hard to bend if you need to remove them.Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk 1 Quote
shashachu[TK] Posted October 11, 2017 Report Posted October 11, 2017 Stephen - just wanted to drop you a message that I've loved following your build thread. You clearly care so much about the quality of your build, and I love your sense of humor and the odd travel pic interspersed. From one fellow short trooper to another, great job! You're almost there! 1 Quote

Gwithian Posted October 11, 2017 Author Report Posted October 11, 2017 Well today has been the first proper test fit of my armour ..... boy it was difficult to get on .... much harder than my motorcycle leathers ...... oh and sorry..... I couldn’t put my lid on .... so you will see a rather old and ..... well only a face a mother or wife could love..... you have been warned..... My biking mates make me wear a black visor so they can’t see my mug when we are out riding..... see Anyway... back to the armour... I’m chuffed in part and well not so chuffed in others..... The torso isn’t as bad as I thought and I can’t get the cod any higher without singing an octave higher .... I thought I may need to cut the cod but now I think it’s ok I’m happy with the thighs, they need trimming at the back but the front seems ok? ... the right thigh wasn’t on very square I don’t know why? The right greave fits well but walking around a bit I found that the return edge at the top of the greaves was rubbing against my knee.... perhaps a bit of foam in there will do the trick... The left greave rode up and came over the boot.... it’s too wide at the ankle so I will take it in a bit I’m pleased with the TD and the ammo belt .... one question.... are the drop boxes riveted to the ammo belt or held on loops.... I have found advice which recommends both do I don’t know which is right? As I said it was really difficult to fit the armour..... my shoulder bells are still too big.... I did manage to fit the left bell to the shoulder snap but with the left arm armour on I couldn’t reach the right shoulder snap ... so the bell kept falling down..... how on earth I will manage the shoulder elastic...... well that..... thankfully is a problem fir another day.... Given the difficulties I’ve experienced today it’s no wonder the pesky rebellion has gathered ground..... I mean if we can’t get our kit on.... never mind navigate steps and not mentioning the inaccuracies of our blasters...... it’s no wonder we are struggling to retain law and order in the galaxy ...... You will understand my frustration when you see the pics..... Advice much appreciated..... sorry about the mug shot And the belt...... rivet or loop? Thanks for your advice..... I’m getting there.... rather slowly..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Gwithian Posted October 12, 2017 Author Report Posted October 12, 2017 Today I’ve fixed the drop boxes to the belt Not too sure if it goes hereOr hereI also installed some Velcro.... the soft side to the outside of the TD brackets.... hopefully that should stop the brackets from scratching the kidney armour All doneThen I fitted the inner cover strips to the thighs.... after test fitting yesterday , the right thigh was perfect. The left was a bit too wide so I trimmed it about 7mm and then fitted the inner stripsOne final question.... the back of the thighs do need trimming..... I’m guessing they need to be trimmed as shown by the yellow tape in the pics belowAnother step forward today Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
shashachu[TK] Posted October 12, 2017 Report Posted October 12, 2017 The drop box alignment is correct in the second photo - aligned to the ends of the belt. I don't think there's a required way to fix the elastic to the belt - I did an elastic loop but also used E6000 to keep it aligned to the belt ends. As for not being able to reach your shoulder bells - have you considered cutting the first notch off of your forearms? It is totally approveable up to Centurion (see @Cricket's Centurion approval) and makes bending your arms much easier. The yellow trim line for your thighs looks fine to start - you might need to refine further depending on if it overlaps the butt plate. Finally, your chest looks a bit on the wide side - maybe heat bend/boiling water to shape it? 1 Quote
Gwithian Posted October 12, 2017 Author Report Posted October 12, 2017 Thanks for the advice:)I will look at the arms... I don’t think Ibadan the biceps up high enough? So I will check that out first . I will also have a look at the chest I’m getting there bit by bit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

I have them connected via snaps/elastic; other people use the bicep hook. 1 Quote

I have attached the biceps to the bells with snaps , I’ve adjusted them and got things more aligned .... will do another fit next week but the arms are now feeling much better .... thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Gwithian Posted October 15, 2017 Author Report Posted October 15, 2017 Some more progress made over the past couple of days... however I’ve ....well ..... I was trying to heat the butt to try and get it to fit better and this happened Got it a bit too hot and put my thumb in it.... not too sure what to do... leave it as it is ? Or try and heat it out? Thoughts appreciated ....I’ve been working on the thighs, trimmed the excess and then rebuilt the return edge with a heat sealing ironUsed some abs paste to Smith things out... just needs sanding nowI have reworked the left greave to make it fit better around the boot ... I had to remove the internal magnets I then had to re trim the greaveThen glued it all back together They fit a lot better nowI know it’s daft but I wore these today whilst I was working on the armour, the right is perfect but the left actually it’s the sniper knee plate digs into my knee... so I think it needs some padding .... they didn’t ride up at all when I was walking around ... oh attached magnets to the boots Then tweaked the shoulder bells and arms.... they fit much better nowThen fitted the drop boxes and riveted the amp to the beltThe green tape marks where the drop boxes need to align to when the ammo is removedAll riveted upAnd on the abSome good progress but gutted about the heat damage to the butt.... hay me n heat guns don’t go well together lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Gwithian Posted October 17, 2017 Author Report Posted October 17, 2017 I’ve tweaked the butt, the arm strapping and the ab / chest strapping .... then I tried it on againNow apologies... the excess belt is showing over my thigh .... I will cut that off.... also the left shoulder Bell snap came undone... doh.... Anyway you will get the idea of how it’s coming togetherActually it’s a lot easier to walk in than I thought.... indeed I dropped the remote camera button on the floor and managed to bend down to pick it up .... didn’t think I would be able to do that.... well chuffed So pics I think it’s coming together well. How is the chest /ab looking re where the buttons will goThanks for all your help I could not have done this without the UKG or FISD Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
