Cricket[TK] Posted January 20, 2017 Report Posted January 20, 2017 Good work so far! If it were me, I'd would go thinner on the black borders, though. See this screen-used lid for reference: 1 Quote
Gwithian Posted January 20, 2017 Author Report Posted January 20, 2017 Good work so far! If it were me, I'd would go thinner on the black borders, though. See this screen-used lid for reference: Thanks, will do Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Gwithian Posted January 21, 2017 Author Report Posted January 21, 2017 A bit more progress, widened the teeth details and narrowed the black like in tears and trap, only done the left side and not tweaked the ear painting yet. Is this going in the right direction? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Gwithian Posted January 23, 2017 Author Report Posted January 23, 2017 Well today I've fitted the right ear, was dreading doing it as the left ear was so difficult, but fir some reason this one was much easier, I don't know if it's because I learnt from the last one or what. I still think it needs a few tweaks though. Also I have marked off where I think I need to cut around the bottom rim of the lid, does that look right I still have some more painting to do but I'm getting there Oh and got this today for inside the teeth Once again, thanks for your help Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
jcalus Posted January 23, 2017 Report Posted January 23, 2017 Hi Gwithian Your build is looking great! For the teeth I used a piece of old window screen. It's light, easy to mold, and usually is already black or grey. Save the strainer for food..haha But with that said, a few months later I removed the screen bcz I heard the screen used lids were left open. I wanted to get a accurate as I could. Keep up the good work! Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk 1 Quote
Gwithian Posted January 28, 2017 Author Report Posted January 28, 2017 Ok over the past few days I've been working on the lid, had the first stab at the strips on the tears and traps, they need a lot of tidying up, doh, but practice makes perfect. This is where I'm up to Thoughts appreciated Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
WhyItMatters Posted January 28, 2017 Report Posted January 28, 2017 I'm not a helmet expert, but looking at pictures of originals you might want to thin out the stripes a little, here are the original pictures: Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk 1 Quote

Gwithian Posted January 31, 2017 Author Report Posted January 31, 2017 (edited) Ok tweaked the vents in the tears and traps today, they still need a bit of work but they are getting there .... I hope lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited January 31, 2017 by Gwithian 1 Quote

Gwithian Posted February 19, 2017 Author Report Posted February 19, 2017 Not done so much lately so progress is slow. I've printed off the tube stripe templates that panda trooper posted, I've stuck them on with tape to check they are in the right place, next I will make a template as per pandatrooper and paint them on Also started to cut out the mesh fir behind the teeth, it needs another coat of paint Nothing else to do so I polished the lid with auto glym polish Then took a selfie lol Last week I ordered my armour from RS and should be able to collect it in a couple of weeks.... I just hope I can put it together. There are some good build threads on here like Crickets, and the armourers on the UKG have been really helpful giving me tips and instructions on how to construct my lid, so it's good to know that I'm not on my own. Thanks for the inspiration Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Gwithian Posted February 26, 2017 Author Report Posted February 26, 2017 Well finally plucked up the courage to try to paint the tube stripes , they need another coat and a bit of tidying up. .... I used panda troopers template, tried versions dry runs which at best were..... well..... dismal So I thought .... cut them out..... Use the cut outs as a template and draw around them Then paint them As I said they need another coat and tidying up..... Are they looking ok? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Gwithian Posted March 2, 2017 Author Report Posted March 2, 2017 Well I suppose it was bound to happen, I've fitted the hovi mix but.... I tried to fit the wire mesh, cut it in a circle, tried to fit it, but the bits on the end just fell out , tried to re-fit them but they looked a mess.... I'm totally stumped, how on earth do you fit the mesh to the hovi mix, I've searched UKG and FIDS but drawn a blank. I feel stumped, and if something as small as this is stumping me, well how on earth am I going to cope with building the armour..... humm..... Anyway I thought I would superglue the mesh behind the frown, well, I managed to glue my fingers together, not having a good day lol, but in the end I did manage to get one side stuck, so I guess a bit of progress ..... will do a bit more tomorrow Still worried about the hobo mix, will speak to RS to get some more mesh... Can you buy the hovi mix pre assembled? .... but then would I be giving up? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
troopermaster Posted March 2, 2017 Report Posted March 2, 2017 You have to cut your mesh ever so slightly bigger than the hole in your mic tip and gently push it in without bending the cut ends of the mesh. There is a bit of a knack to it to get them to sit in tight without using glue. I have several sets available if you need new ones. 1 Quote

Thanks I appreciate your kind offer , I will try again, God loves a trier , though I'm not that confident , if it doesn't work I will pm you if that's ok . Gwithian Posted March 3, 2017 Author Report Posted March 3, 2017 A bit more success today with the hovi mic ( is it mic or mix?) anyway I would give myself 6 out of 10 , with some more practice I will get it better I've finished the mesh behind the frown and I didn't even stick my fingers together today , I'm actually quite pleased with this And a full view, all he needs is his eye lenses, two better mic tips and his rubber thing around the bottom, can't wait to start the armour I will get some more mesh from RS when I collect the armour Oh and I'm going to plasticoat the inside, I like the Matt black finish, oh then there are electronics..... I guess that's for another day.... don't run before you can walk Stephen Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
Gwithian Posted March 6, 2017 Author Report Posted March 6, 2017 Not done much, need to tidy up the inside of the wire mesh fir the frown. Today I very roughly fitted the s seal around the base if the helmet, I haven't cut it to size as yet until I know if it's looking ok All that's needed now are lenses which I'm getting of ninjabiscuit from the UKG and to paint the interior. I was thinking of doing the cheese cloth thing but now I'm having second thoughts Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

Gwithian Posted March 17, 2017 Author Report Posted March 17, 2017 (edited) Wow..... I popped over to RS today to pick up my armour, I met Rob and he gave me a guided tour , I met the guys who make and build the costumes for us, Rob showed me how they make the armour, it's really amazing, and it's a very professional set up. All my stuff was boxed up and ready for me, the care they take in packaging up your kit is second to none, the care and professionalism they take in making your kit is again second to none. They clearly put their customers first, I asked if I could buy some more mesh for the hovi mix, a couple of spare hovi mix and some extra bolts and abs, they supplied the additional items and would not take any money fir it, Rob said they like to support their customers and if you need advice or a few more bits it's not a problem. I took a few photos whilst I was there, but I guess I was a bit star struck. Rob clearly saw that I was, well am, a tad, vertically challenged, he said that I should look at Crickets build thread on FISD, as that is a perfect example of what can be done to their costumes fir us shorter troopers. Got home and her are a few pics of my kit, I have a lot of work to do, I told Rob I was worried if I could put it all together, he said the lid is harder to put together than the armour so given you have done the lid you should be ok. I'm like a kid at Christmas, I can't believe I now own a stormtrooper costume, it's amazing, really amazing , I am blown away with the quality, the boots fit perfectly, the blaster is amazing and the armour is awesome, I am a very lucky indeed..... Thank you to the guys gals at the UKG and FISD for giving me the opportunity to do this Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited March 17, 2017 by Gwithian 2 Quote

Yes, they have amazing customer support!!! I had several similar experiences with them. Wait, whaaa?! Seriously, he mentioned my build?! Love the armor and everything in their studio. But that bike is sah-weet. Thanks for sharing all the photos!!! Quote
Gwithian Posted March 17, 2017 Author Report Posted March 17, 2017 The bike is Vicky the R1, she is my pride and joy, or as my wife says , my mistress, I'm a bit of a petrol head trooper, I love my bike and car( a jaguar) but the stormtrooper.... well that's the best. Yes Christine, Rob had all your pictures, he told me to follow your example as this , pointing to the picture of you in front of your front door, is how the armour can be put together for people of my size, he was very very complementary of your build and the quality of your finished costume.... of mine is half as good as yours I will be well chuffed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
