DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 17, 2017 Author Report Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) Where did you find the measurements? They are not correct to the original ANH prop. The full length of the detonator is 185mm (7 1/4"), end caps are 20mm (3/4") and the control panel is 115mm (4 1/2").I was searching through the white armor threads and came across one on TD's. First time reading through I stopped reading when the measurements seemed ok (my mistake). When I did my first dry fit of the pieces. I saw the plate I cut was crooked. I went back through and reviewed the thread and saw a few others had commented and the dimensions for the cover plate where different. A few posts down, someone posted a pic of a td you had built with dimensions for that. I then checked the crl and recomfirmed the length of 7.5 in/190.5mm and checked for other measurements. (it only mentions clips and pipe diameter) on no info on the plate. My plate is currently at 119-120mm (right between the lines). I have been looking to see if that is acceptable. I have not attached anything on the TD yet, in case i needed to shorten or adjust anything. My clips are also thinner than i like, so i am going to remake them. I will shorten my plate to 115mm when I get home. I remember a post by ukwrath in a build thread where that is the dimensions he used. I did ask about that in my local garrison forum. Thank you for your help the info is appreciated and will be put to use. Here is the link for what i originally read when I was looking for measurements of end caps and plate. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/36227-centurion-spec-thermal-detonator/ Edited January 17, 2017 by DamnitDavid Quote

DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 18, 2017 Author Report Posted January 18, 2017 After watching more videos at work. I ran home to walk the dogs at lunch and decided to tape this together. Now that it is together I can see a difference in the curves. With the longer curve being on the outside, and the shorter curve on the inside. Pretty sure this one should be my left shin/calf piece. So I do have them on labeled wrong. Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 18, 2017 Author Report Posted January 18, 2017 (edited) So between clients I was able to watch the trooperbay and panda videos. I think I should be good to go till I move onto the next section. Edited January 18, 2017 by DamnitDavid Quote

DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 19, 2017 Author Report Posted January 19, 2017 So The white section beneath the black tape was what i originally thought my cut line was. Measured calf and inside of armor. Split the difference. The white tapeline over the black is my actual cut line (i think) The vertical section is what i got from following darth panda's vids. Put on with boot. Then closed with ooeming towards the inside. Marked the top and bottom where my thumb is and the blue arrows are the edge of the underlap. Measured from mark to edge on top and bottom of both parts. Then split the difference and made a new mark. Clamped a straight edge connecting the lines, amd marked. It may need trimmed a little but it is closer than i was. And the boot is smooshed. I think it is too tight. Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 19, 2017 Author Report Posted January 19, 2017 Earlier i posted about the pinch in my shin, and the dimples in the ab button plate. Since i had the left and right shin/calf pieces switched, the pinch is on the right shin and not covered by the knee plate. So it will need filled, sanded, polished. So i made some abs paste. I started when I got home from work during evening snack. Poured in the acetone. A few scraps snd stirred. Through out the night i sprinkled in more abs till i got a consistency somewhere between melted chocolate and canned cake frosting. It worked great! Before/after abs paste. I dabbed it on with a tooth pick and then smoothed quickly with the tip of my glove. I will sand and polish when I reach that section of the build. Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 20, 2017 Author Report Posted January 20, 2017 I went back to resize the calf section That flare (even though it is getting cut off), was making it hard to get a doof measurement for fitting. I used the heatgun to get it smoothed down. Low setting and a little time. I didnt want to overheat it. It worked, and it only changed the mark 2 mm. I went through and overlapped again for my last measurements. Split the difference and drew a line. When cutting i clamped the ruler down (it is slightly flexible) and made my first cut. Even with clamping, it didnt follow the line exactly, then Iremembered in one of the videos it said use a strait edge scrap of abs. I clamped it down and cut the other side and perfect. It was much more flexible. And the other 3 cuts were spot on. The crooked piece is getting repaired with abs. I'll post before and after that repair when I get to it later. Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 22, 2017 Author Report Posted January 22, 2017 Before and after of the calf repair. I am going to check the shin/calf pieces for scuffs and scrapes, then sand/polish those out before assembly. And now to work on this gap. Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 22, 2017 Author Report Posted January 22, 2017 After reading a bit i am going to use the inside support strip for the bowed piece. While that dries i did a rough trim of the knee plate. And taped the thighs together to fit. 1 Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 23, 2017 Author Report Posted January 23, 2017 Attaching the second half. I will let it dry a few hours then attach the cover strips. Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 23, 2017 Author Report Posted January 23, 2017 And i goofed. I had the shins wrong all along. Easy fix. E6000 wasnt fully cured so 10 minutes of clean up and back to it. The shins i had marked L1 and L2 are the insides. Not one piece. So i pulled them apart and reglued. Currently those pieces are the shorter pieces and are the insides of the shin/calf. So L2 is the inside to R1. Now. They are proper and after the little ones checkup, i will glue cover strips. I had a minimal gap on the bottom so forced it into place and wrapped with tape. I am relieved that is done for the most part. Hopefully this helps someone else. I am confident the rest of the build will go better. Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 24, 2017 Author Report Posted January 24, 2017 Since the bottoms didnt line up. I needed to shape them. Tape off, cut, flip over (sticky side out) and use magnets to hold in place. Trace. Cut and sanded. Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 24, 2017 Author Report Posted January 24, 2017 And gluing the cover strips. While that sets i am resesrching more on the thighs and making sure they are good to go for getting glued and clamped soon. 1 Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 26, 2017 Author Report Posted January 26, 2017 I glued the back cover strips on the calf area, and started the inner support strips for the thighs. I have the knee plate on my shin with magnets at the moment. It sits a little crooked so i am looking for ways to resolve that. Inner Front. It is dropped a little to the left. Having trouble searching to see if anyone else has had that issue, and the best way to fix it. Outer I also started gluing my TD together. Used a magnet to hold it in place, then wrapped witj wax paper amd rubberbands. Zipties would have been better, but i cpuldnt find mine. Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 26, 2017 Author Report Posted January 26, 2017 Attach the clips later and this will be good to go. The left side cap slides on and off with a little effort. The right side is extremely snug. Not glued on, but with the way they are. I doubt it will be needed Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 26, 2017 Author Report Posted January 26, 2017 Let this dry, then I will add velcro. Its good to know they are fully assembled. Finish TD and thighs tonight and tomorrow. 1 Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 27, 2017 Author Report Posted January 27, 2017 New td clips. The old ones were too thin snd flimsy. TD almost done. Swapping out those tiny screws tomorrow. Left thigh glue and clamp. Tomorrow. Right thigh glue and i will trim the thigh detail 1 Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 27, 2017 Author Report Posted January 27, 2017 I dug through the toolbox and basement and got lucky. 4 screws with a head size of 6mm (just passed 6mm) took the old ones out and redrilled the holes in my td clips. Popped these in and a quick coat of black paint. Now its done. A quick before and after. For the new TD clips i didnt document the process. Same way i made the previous post. I did tape them together then drilled the holes through both at once. 1 Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 27, 2017 Author Report Posted January 27, 2017 Looking Good Trooper Thank you sir Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 29, 2017 Author Report Posted January 29, 2017 I think this is the correct thigh piece. It is glued already. Just waiting to place the cover strip 1 Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 29, 2017 Author Report Posted January 29, 2017 Knee pack. Ugh. The boxes were not even. I went to the tape to get straight parallel lines. 50mm consistently. Used a paint can to get the curve and i will trim tomorrow. Quote
DamnitDavid[TK] Posted January 29, 2017 Author Report Posted January 29, 2017 All of today's progress so far. Restacked and taped my magnets. Half double and half single. Rivets painted white, belt and button covers trimmed. Not pictured right thigh ammo packs. Trimmed and with holes for mounting. 1 Quote
