A Master Builder Posted June 25, 2016 Report Posted June 25, 2016 Greetings Troopers, Many of you might know I have been building my ANOVOS TFA TK build the last few months. And.....well now its about time to paint this bad boy. But before I do that. I would like to get some opinions/tips of what paint to use? How many coats of primer/Final Paint to put on? Dry Time? Right now where I live, its been 95 degrees plus everyday, sometimes in the 100s. I did some research and found that paint color (RAL 9010) is pretty close to the Film used TFAs. But the paint is only carried in the UK I believe. I did find some Rustoleum paint (Pure White) that looks like (RAL 9010) but everyone has been using the Rustoleum Gloss White 2x......Its a hard decision. If I roll with (RAL 9010) then I would have to paint the fiberglass helmet which Ive heard is stressful but can be mastered. Is it worth it to paint both helmet and armor? Picked up a can of primer yesterday to spray test some parts to see if any pesky putty holes show up, as well 800 Grit Sand Paper to sand down slightly to cover the holes. Really Nervous......Need your tips Troopers. (NOTE. I have 400 Grit paper to prep before painting) Quote
TK4205 Posted June 25, 2016 Report Posted June 25, 2016 You're going to get different responses. Some people use rustolium but I use krylon. Some people use CA glue, others use epoxy. I suggest reading the build threads and going from there. Good luck and have fun. Quote
Zaphod[TK] Posted June 26, 2016 Report Posted June 26, 2016 I used Rustoleum Gloss White 2x without issue. I did shake the hell out of the cans with this and never completly empied a can. -Pete http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/32343-zaphods-first-order-tk-tfa-build-threadtk-31415abs-pastepic-heavy/?p=438295 Quote
Junglie Scout Posted June 26, 2016 Report Posted June 26, 2016 I went to a local paint place and got a match to the Anovos helmet. My kit is now one uniform colour; I've seen ones that aren't and they stand out a mile!!!! Quote
tkrestonva[TK] Posted June 26, 2016 Report Posted June 26, 2016 Another option - the one I went with - is to take your entire kit and have it professionally painted by an auto body repair/paint specialist. I knew going in that my spray painting skills were lacking, and as expensive as the TFA kits are there was no way I was going to risk botching it up with a cheap paint job. A member of my garrison owns an auto body shop - complete with a pro-grade paint booth. I informed him of the recommended paint (Rustoleum 2x Gloss White), and he then bought a can and created a custom blend that was color-matched (via computer) to the Rustoleum paint and sprayed my entire kit (minus the fiberglass helmet) with it. It wasn't cheap (it cost me $375 US) but IMO it well worth it. That's not just my opinion, either. Several other Anovos TFA TK owners (including at least three in my geographic vicinity) have gone a similar route. 1 Quote
sylverbard[TK] Posted June 27, 2016 Report Posted June 27, 2016 The instructions from anovos said use rustoleum to match the included fiberglass helm. nothing to see here. Quote
zuko[TK] Posted July 6, 2016 Report Posted July 6, 2016 I own a kit and used duplicolor. I plan to repaint it with PPG so it'll stand up..the trick will be is the Preval sprayer can handle it whi check would allow me to bypass a shop where I'd have to leave my armor. Preval sprayer, thoughts? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk Quote
hon143 Posted July 12, 2016 Report Posted July 12, 2016 Even with a couple coats of primer, I noticed that Rustoleum 2X gloss white spray paint chips very easily. I wonder if Krylon is any better with chipping. Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted July 12, 2016 Report Posted July 12, 2016 I used automotive acrylic paint, not too bad for chipping or scratches and can be cut and buffed. To save getting too many chips I made fabric pouches for all of the armor parts to cart them safely, worked pretty well so far. Still get the odd scratch from a troop though. Quote
grindking[TK] Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 What shade of white acrylic automotive paint did you use? I am planing paint mine with auto motive paint I just don't know which to go with. Quote
Tk 4080 Posted August 21, 2016 Report Posted August 21, 2016 Any body have a color code on the Anovos helmet RAL ????? Sendt fra min SM-G850F med Tapatalk Quote
Tk 4080 Posted August 21, 2016 Report Posted August 21, 2016 Most spray can white here is 9010. Sendt fra min SM-G850F med Tapatalk 1 Quote
A Master Builder Posted August 22, 2016 Author Report Posted August 22, 2016 RAL 9010 is accurate color. Off-White is what to shoot for. Quote
