Pyrates[TK] Posted June 18, 2016 Author Report Posted June 18, 2016 Eek! Fest - St.Albert, Edmonton - Tunes cranked, call-sign Aquadraik in the passenger seat, and a 2.5 hour drive ahead of us the first Troop road trip began. Eek Fest was to be a different training experience than the Comic Expo. Being a smaller venue I would learn a little more of the ropes in a little less hectic of an environment. Luckily, a few other troopers and myself were welcomed into the home of a fellow Scout Trooper for the weekend. I have become addicted to the subtle rush before a troop and seeing my new Badlands family, however there was more to it this time. It was announced that there might be a surprise unveil at the event. Upon arrival, I was quick to notice the great set and back-drop for our area. It was in a stellar location near the entrance to the event with great access to the change room. Game on - Let's rock the people of St.Albert and make those smiles happen Troopers! I should have known something was up when I found myself kitting up in the back with a couple of Sandy's. Troopers I have finally learned that bucket fans are priceless. With the air conditioning in the building down, I had moisture dripping down my bubble lenses within five minutes of just standing there. Funny effect from trooping though - you don't mind. Plus my fellow Sand Troopers helped to kill the heat as we engaged in random humorous Star Wars banter to entertain the people walking through. I had my very first odd encounter with another Cosplay attendee, who at one point made all 3 troopers just stop and look at one another in silence, as if to say "Who is this guy". One of those moments where you actually wish there a camera rolling as it must have looked hilarious to see three troopers looking blankly at the stranger before them. With a cue from the handler, I presented the guy in the red suit a "Move along, move along" and got a punch in the shoulder bell from my fellow Sandy's followed by "Hey! That's our line". The only response I could muster was "Hey you guy's weren't saying anything, I thought he had you mind tricked". The laughter got more gut busting there for the next hour. With my shift over in the photo area, there was excitement buzzing about the booth. Change room is locked down - no access. One of my fellow troopers involved in the secret project had asked me to stay kitted up for the unveiling so I just hung around interacting with the attendees. And then........ The boss showed up! One of our vetted 5'6" Ladies of Legion pulled off the incredible and walked through the curtain standing at 6'4". Fee, Fi, Foe, Fum what Wheaties box you been eating from? We all just stood there in awe as Lord Vader made his way to the to the center of the photo area. Quickly we were consumed by the moment and fell into place at the boss's side - we didn't feel like any throat hugs today lol. With the new found energy floating in the air, more and more visitors came to the booth. When things died down we kept our Sith Lord entertained with an epic Charlie's Angel pose and some fancy footwork to keep morale high. What I learned on this troop - first and foremost: It's better to have bucket fans and not need them, rather than need them and not have them (order placed with Tony ). Secondly, even if the event doesn't have a massive crowd, keep each other energized and motivated. We can't make those smiles if we allow ourselves to become idle and exhausted from the heat. Lastly, never underestimate the power of the dark side. Oh, and if your event has a hockey rink inside it's a stellar place to take a break lol. 10 hours logged in armor / 6 hours as Handler Pyrates signing-off - Whoo-Wahhh! Damn kit malfunctions 2 Quote

Airborne Trooper[501st] Posted June 20, 2016 Report Posted June 20, 2016 Dude, fans are a necessity. Even with that anti-fog stuff on my lenses it does no good after 5 minutes with no fans. Hopefully you got the fan's from Tony with the option to hook it up to a USB power source. Changing AA's every 3 hours stinks. 2 Quote
pewpewpew[TK] Posted June 25, 2016 Report Posted June 25, 2016 This was an epic thread to have my morning coffee with Aaron. I was kind of dragging my feet about how to spend my time today, but I've been seriously inspired to put in as many hours as I can this weekend working on my kit. Thanks for sharing all that, I'm really looking forward to getting out there myself. 2 Quote

TK 2759[501st] Posted July 20, 2016 Report Posted July 20, 2016 I was looking at your pictures... Do you troop with bubble lenses all the time? Do you feel it's safe to do so? I troop with flat lenses mostly, but interested in your opinion as well 1 Quote
