ThayNerd[TK] Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Gas prices are killing me, I paid $4.50 yesterday for gas and it sure doesn't help that I have a V8 that gets only 17 mpg. It might be time to get a second car and leave the V8 for the weekends. What is everyone else paying for gas, something ridiculous I'm sure? Quote
journeymanprotector Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 I honestly don't know. I gave up looking at the prices awhile back, just resigned myself. I'm paying about $50-$55 to fill up my 13.5 gallon tank though. I've got a 2008 CR-V and it's averaging about 28.1 MPG Phil Quote
ThayNerd[TK] Posted June 12, 2008 Author Report Posted June 12, 2008 I have been thinking about getting a smart car for in town commuting. <_< Quote
Runnriottt Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 They have been doing the small car and scooter here in Japan for a long long time. Its about 5.00 a gallon, but that is low right now. I have seen it up as high as 7.00. They pay by the Liter. I get around the whole mess... I cycle. Problem is when I did that in the states about 3 months ago I almost got smeared by non attentive drivers. We are not set up for high prices, or other modes of transportation yet. It is truly a crisis in America. Its not going to go away anytime soon IMO. So its time to change. I am a very loud supporter for muscle cars too. Just got to pay to play these days. My 454 gets driven to shows. I get about 4 MPG. LOL Toyota Prius... *Beep beep* The look of the future is here. Quote
The other Jay Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 I have been thinking about getting a smart car for in town commuting. <_< Don't do it...they're a quantum leap backward in mileage from a 14 year old Ford Aspire or Ford Escort or any kind of Geo from a decade and a half ago...all those models listed average about 35mpg with the air conditioner running. Get a used one and what you may have to shell out in easy to replace parts you'll save at the pump, for sure. You have to believe there's something going on between the car companies and oil companies when they're marketing 28mpg as the best we can do, and those hideous, unsafe, and above all *expensive* smart cars get the same (or less) mileage that a regular compact car with a backseat got in 1992. Oh yeah...I got gas yesterday for my 99 Dodge Ram (full size, 21mpg{?!?!}) and I paid about 3.95 or so. $35 for a quarter tank. Quote
TobesMahone Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 i drive a 1966 vw bus, i don't even wanna post my mpg here. however http://www.aptera.com/ 100 mpg... goofy lookin as all hell but we wear equally funny looking stuff so i can't complain. Quote
mattastic13 Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 I gots a 98 Dodge full size with the 5.9, 14 mpg.....paid $3.89/gallon Quote
Bigturc Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I'm in Montreal .. gaz price is skyrocketing here! We pay 1.50$ per liter here. For the mathematically challenged: 1 gal = 3.785 L, thus our $ per galon is at 5.67$ Eat this! :| Quote
Jaleel Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 Just paid $4.87. If you've got an extra 100 grand the Tesla Roadster's a fantastic option. 0-60 in under 4 seconds with an electric motor... Quote
TK8776 jgarrettg Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I paid $4.25 last fill up. My Jeep is getting about 20 mpg. My wife gets 50 mpg in her Prius. That's an awesome car. Here's my latest Imperial requisition, the TK Scoot Much more practical than the old TK Transport. I think I have a white and black problem. Quote
Murray1134[501st] Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I paid $3.98 for mid-grade tonight. You might want to be careful when looking at the older cars MPG ratings. I read somewhere that the institute responsible for that changed how they figure it exactly. Sorry for the lack of details, I'm too tired right now to do research. Quote
psychotropic Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 they should have solar powerd cars. i would be a very rich man. i waste sooo much money on gass i might as well stay home Quote
Daetrin[Admin] Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I don't check the price - I have to drive what I drive. I can say that my old '91 Escort got 40mpg back in the day. If my wife won't let us move closer to work, I'll just buy a motorcycle (my '01 Sprint ST got 50mpg). Quote
davej[TK] Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I paid $1.80AU /L yesterday .With the exchange rate so good at the moment , works out at $7.32US a gallon. My pathetic 60L fuel tank cost me $108 to fill up and does just on 400km (250 miles) .I do 600-800 km a week , so $150 -$200 a week on fuel . Quote
drosch Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I'm 80 miles round trip to work in a 2000 Chevy Silverado at $3.99 per gallon! I'm at around $450 per month just going to work and back. I'm concidering getting a small car but that would make 4 in the driveway! Can't give up the truck I use it all the time and we don't have the weather here to make a motorcycle practical transportation. It's a bad situation and we just gotta eat it! Quote
Onigiri[TK] Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I just filled up at $4.79 a gallon in LA Quote
TKDUEUNO Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 Here in Italy is 1.541 €/liter, which means 5.832 €/gallon, which means 8.939 $/gallon...... So please, don't complain too much about your prices.......... If only Tesla had the chance to develop his electric car...... Damn you, J.P.Morgan!!!!! Quote
Sandman[TK] Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I drive a 2005 Monte Carlo SS and it costs over $50 bucks to fill up, but fortunatly I only drive about 5 miles a day to get to work. But even this small distance means I'm spending $20.00 a week in gas. The entire oil and gas industry is just corruption and lies. Oil IS NOT AND NEVER HAS BEEN worth more than $50.00 bucks per barrel. We're all being royally screwed by big oil and gas corporations and the corrupt government regimes that they're in bed with. It's all a bunch of B.S. Quote
drosch Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 It's simple economics. Supply and demand. The oil is worth what the market is willing to pay. Many would say $800 for white plastic is crazy but all of us here pay it. There is just so much more demand today. The only thing they can do is increase the supply. The problem in the U.S. is that China and Cuba drill for oil closer to the U.S. coastline than we do. The enviromentalists have our government restricting production so much that we can't help ourselves. We haven't built a new refinery in this country in over 30 years. Almost all of our baseball and football stadiums are newer than our newest oil refineries! Bottom line is drill here, drill now, pay less. You can still put effort into "alternative" sources and "greener" solutions but for right now our economy is grinding to a halt for no reason. There is alot of oil right here in the good ol U.S. of A. that we are not utilizing and our refining methods are archaic at best. Quote
mattastic13 Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 ^^Here here!!! Cheers to that Right now I am not running my Jeep, it has a 30 gallon tank and gets 8-10 MPG Quote
davej[TK] Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 Here in Italy is 1.541 €/liter, which means 5.832 €/gallon, which means 8.939 $/gallon...... So please, don't complain too much about your prices.......... I'm with you there Pablo , the American folk don't know how good they have it . Australia has it's own oil fields , and we refine our own fuel ,yet we still pay almost twice the price for our fuel .I spend about a quarter of my wage on petrol . Btw , my 1970 Falcon has a 36 gallon tank , and would cost me $263 to fill all the way to the top ... if I dared ... Quote
TK-1085[501st] Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 Between 3.99 and 4.05 a gallon here north of the 'burgh. I got a 95 Grand Prix so I'm still averaging around 30 MPG right now, though buyin one of those 90MPG scooters is very tempting. We need to just drill Alaska and be done with it, the new rigs and new drillin methods are very low impact. I work for a natural gas company here in PA and we need just under an acre of free ground and occasional we hit oil locally so its there, its just so hard to get it out and to a refinery. Quote
TK-9805 Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 $3.99 for regular, here in NC. I have a 2001 Jeep Wrangler which costs me about $65 to fill up and gets about 12mpg here in and around our small town. My wife and I are looking into trading in our 2000 Cherokee (which gets around 20.5mpg, at best) on a small car, like a Kia or Mazda. Can't afford the Honda's and Toyota's. Quote
ThayNerd[TK] Posted June 13, 2008 Author Report Posted June 13, 2008 Man after looking at the price some of you pay I don't feel as bad now. Its still sucks that gas is getting so expensive. Quote
