Pyrates[TK] Posted February 17, 2017 Author Report Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) As I sit here waiting for items to dry, I'm chuckling to myself. I'm reminded of last year working to get my 501st membership and some of the first help I received was the abs paste recipe Joseph passed along to me. Here I am again making a fresh batch without having to research - wow safety tip: Stay away from the fumes of acetone, they cause flashbacks and chuckling when not in a well ventilated area Edited February 17, 2017 by Pyrates Quote

Pyrates[TK] Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 (edited) Now I don't know about everyone else but I swear part of the fun for me is finding a way to make it work. Maybe too much MacGyver as kid, I don't know - none the less here's the progress... Edited February 18, 2017 by Pyrates Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 Right then, I needed a spring that would fit my QuestDesignCanada. I was in to one of my HVAC suppliers and low and behold there was some copper pipe bending springs. Quick test of the 1/2" O.D. bending spring and it fits like a charm! Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 With a little stretching of the spring, this detail is ready. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 Next, was to find some decal numbers for the counter. Then I came across some counters. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 Time to break them down Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 Moving along, moving along... To make the numbers fit I have two approaches. Cut the numbers out and glue them into place or... Core a hole in the counter then fill it in with the number secured into place. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 Because they are so small I chance scratching them up before installing them and chance a hack job so I'm taking the road less traveled. To begin I traced out the diameter of the number wheels. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 Next, drill a pilot hole and mark off the drill so I don't go to far. I used a small drill bit to create the pilot. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 Once I finished drilling, I used the Dremel to clean everything up. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 Time to prep the numbers. I'm using CA glue to secure them to the post Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 19, 2017 Author Report Posted February 19, 2017 It's been a long night, but here we go. With all the numbers secured, I got measurements done for the display and cut out the site window using the face shield. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 19, 2017 Author Report Posted February 19, 2017 Then measurements of the numbers area view port and marked them out. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 19, 2017 Author Report Posted February 19, 2017 Using a small drill bit, the four corners of the view port were made. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 19, 2017 Author Report Posted February 19, 2017 Removal of the view port area using a drill, exacto, and microfile. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 19, 2017 Author Report Posted February 19, 2017 Then a test fit of the numbers, I used a toothpick to hold the wheel firmly in place while I shifted it to a position I was happy with. 1 Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 19, 2017 Author Report Posted February 19, 2017 With the numbers fully secured into position, it's time to fill in the rest of the coring with "Fix-It Stik". I used a putty knife to smooth the surface for when it comes time to sand. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 20, 2017 Author Report Posted February 20, 2017 Time to start cleaning up the gnarly looking view port window. First I taped off the numbers to keep them clean, followed by a black gloss paint to cover the edges of where the site glass will sit. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 20, 2017 Author Report Posted February 20, 2017 Using more "Fix-It Stik and sculpting tools I squared up the edges of the view port. To ensure the site glass doesn't get scratched, I left the protective plastic on as well as added painters tape on top of that. Quote

Pyrates[TK] Posted February 20, 2017 Author Report Posted February 20, 2017 Ok, so while finishing touch-ups are being done on the counter, it's time to move to the inner bolt. This one is going to be a little more challenging to pull off with this type of blaster, as you will soon see. Quote
