Pyrates[TK] Posted January 30, 2017 Author Report Posted January 30, 2017 I then put the lens back in, and used a toothpick to place CA glue along the outside edge. After dry time the lens was secure and no fog. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 30, 2017 Author Report Posted January 30, 2017 The final reveal (noting that I have decided not to place white paint in the "Telescope M38" lettering - as "TELE" were the only letters that transferred in the cast from the maker.) 1 Quote
Haso[TK] Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 Great idea with the tape! Mine got fog unfortunately from ca glue but i can live with it. Sent from my SM-J100Y using Tapatalk 1 Quote

Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 Counter and Power Cell Wires underway. Using some more screws that I salvaged from the survey equipment I drilled out the necessary locations for installation. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 (edited) Next I drilled the hole in the tips of the counter that hold the power cell wire. I cannot express enough that when you are doing fine work on resin parts to pre-stamp you holes to work as a starting point for the end of your drill, and go slow. This will help prevent exploding resin if you hit a small air bubble. Edited February 15, 2017 by Pyrates Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 Using the braided iPhone cable I bought from a gas station, I cut off one end. Then with wire strippers I removed the interior insulation and cut off all but one of the wires. This will give something for the CA glue to bond to. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 To clean the exterior braided insulation I used a lighter to melt the ends. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 The reference pics of the power cell wires show that the wire are curled, so I grabbed a small diameter drill bit and wrapped the wire around it. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 Repeating the cutting and melting process earlier I made the two power cell wires and did a dry fit. 1 Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 Next was drilling the holes in the power cells. Again preset the holes using a sharp nail then slow and steady. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 Then with a toothpick I applied CA glue in the holes and anchored the wires just to the power cells, as there's still more work to be done on the counter. 1 Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 Back to the counter, I need to grind out the area for the numbers and install a faux "reset button". I then used a micro file to clean up my edges. There was some chipping of the resin, however I have some bondo to fill that later. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 For the "reset button" I went into my abs scraps and found a suitable size piece to cut and file down. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 Dry fit showed that the button needed to be shaved down a bit more. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 Once I was happy with the size I secured it in place using more CA glue and let it sit over night. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 Now the first initial coat of paint using semi-gloss. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Author Report Posted February 15, 2017 Right then, the plan of attack for the numbers area. I'm going to go looking for some decals that will fit the space as the ones from TrooperBay are a bit on the large side for this counter. For the viewing area I have a plastic face shield lens ready to be cut. That will be a story for the next update. Cheers my fellow Troopers and keep rocking! Quote
Troopacoola[TK] Posted February 15, 2017 Report Posted February 15, 2017 Nice work there brother! Marc 1 Quote
