Pyrates[TK] Posted January 12, 2017 Author Report Posted January 12, 2017 So while I was On-Call this evening, something caught my eye at a gas station that will help with my blaster upgrade This iPhone charge cable will do nicely for my power cell cables! Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 19, 2017 Author Report Posted January 19, 2017 As always life has been busy on all fronts, but still getting little bits done at a time. Holes drilled for the brass screws Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 19, 2017 Author Report Posted January 19, 2017 I used "Fix-It Stik" to fill in what I needed to for the back lens to fit, and smoothed it out using the Dremel for the future crosshairs decal, that will go in before the red lens is secured. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 19, 2017 Author Report Posted January 19, 2017 Time for some semi-gloss paint! Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 19, 2017 Author Report Posted January 19, 2017 (edited) It may look a little rough when you first paint - but after allowing 24 hours to dry it will look stellar, and will also be ready for weathering with some brass paint. Edited January 19, 2017 by Pyrates 1 Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 19, 2017 Author Report Posted January 19, 2017 Using a nail to keep finger prints off, I've painted the scope/ counter mounting rail as well. 2 Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 23, 2017 Author Report Posted January 23, 2017 Touch testing the paint job for tackiness, I found 24 hours wasn't long enough - so I left the scope to dry for another 24. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 23, 2017 Author Report Posted January 23, 2017 Once the paint was dry, it was time for some review of other scopes and prep for weathering mine with Humbol #54 Brass. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 23, 2017 Author Report Posted January 23, 2017 (edited) Once dry, I will be securing the side screws, decal, and back lens. Edited January 23, 2017 by Pyrates Quote

Pyrates[TK] Posted January 23, 2017 Author Report Posted January 23, 2017 (edited) After looking the scope over, I feel I over weathered it - so I have decided to redo it. Edited January 23, 2017 by Pyrates Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 26, 2017 Author Report Posted January 26, 2017 Weathering scope second round, and much happier with the look - less is more as it were Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 26, 2017 Author Report Posted January 26, 2017 I know the pictures don't do it justice, but it looks damn real. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 26, 2017 Author Report Posted January 26, 2017 Brass screws installed Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 26, 2017 Author Report Posted January 26, 2017 (edited) Next up, I've put in the sight decal. Using a toothpick I placed a small amount of LePage Ultra Gel just at the top of the red lens. This should hold the lens enough, when I start to secure the remainder of the lens. Doing small amounts at a time, will help to avoid the CA fume fogging Joseph talked about earlier. Edited January 26, 2017 by Pyrates Quote

Pyrates[TK] Posted January 30, 2017 Author Report Posted January 30, 2017 So if at first you don't succeed... After placing a small tack area with CA Gel glue and allowing it to sit over night. I came back to the scope to find the small area I glued had started to fog like Joseph had mentioned earlier. Using my thumb I rocked the lens to break the glue tack and removed the lens. Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 30, 2017 Author Report Posted January 30, 2017 I used my thumb nail to scrape the CA fog from the lens to prevent scratches. Once clean I figured out a new approach to anchor the lens without the fogging. Using black electrical tape, cut to the width of the lens, I wrapped the lens. This will help to act as a gasket between the lens and the scope to prevent the CA from fogging again. Quote
