Hi there!

 

Moved my build thread here to the right place.

 

My journey has begun.

So far I got my shoes, neck seal and holster done.

 

Cheap jodhpur shoes converted with the all famous Angelus paint.

If you want a nice even finish, use a sponge to paint with, but you need more layers.

I haven't put any finisher on yet, and probably won't so I get a more authentic look.

Acquiring the right kind of leather in my town was almost impossible.

 

And I got my hand guards from justjoseph63 and they are great. Thanks man.

 

Now it's just to wait for the BBB day, which should be in about a week. Yay!

This is a great forum and the information here is endless, so I feel quite confident in my build thanks to you all.

I've red hundreds of threads and watched thousands of pictures.

I think I've put this TK armour together in my head hundreds of times already.

I'm quite short and skinny so this will be challenge.

 

I'll put up some pics here now and then, just to keep some kind of record of my progress (for my self).

Finally here.


For a first time builder the amount of pieces is overwhelming, so let's start with something easy.

Beautiful RS E-11 blaster.


I don't really know where to start but I think I'll go for the hardest parts first, the torso.
I am short and thin so there will be a lot of trimming going on.
Any good suggestions on what order parts should be done?

At least this much has to go from the but plate, which means the kidney plate also needs rework.
Heat sealing iron on its way, I'm going to need it a lot.

The usually recommended order is to start with forearms and biceps, so that you get a feel for how the ABS reacts as you cut.

 

I would recommend not doing any torso work until a little later. This is your build, however, and if you want to jump into the torso, just be sure to measure and recheck before cutting. Much easier to remove more, than to add it back on.

 

Your work on the Thermal Det looks great!

I'm very glad I got the belt sander. It was about $100 and is a Chinese piece of crap, but it does the job.

I really don't see how you can build an armour without one.

 

Got the torso sanded down to about original size so i can see what needs to be done.

 

But biceps first to get the hang of how things are done.

Will you be able to put the same size cover strip on both the bicep and the forearm? The forearm strip area seems a little wide compared to the bicep cover strip - but that could be due to the photo angle.

 

Overall, it looks like the armor fits you very well. Keep it up.

The seam is measured for 16mm strip, but as you said it looks quite wide, I'll have to look into that.

Fortunately I still have some room to narrow it down.

The RS suite is really wonky, and it's no easy task for a beginner. No kind of assembly instructions are provided with the armour.

The cover strip seams on many places are not that straight, so a little improvisation is required here and there.

I learn as i go, and thanks for the input.

Definitely keep an eye out for RS threads in this forum. I'm sure other RS users have had to address similar issues, so they would be a good source for how to deal with RS-specific wonkiness.

Suddenly this day became... HELMET DAY!

 

This has been a long day at (helmet) work. This is crazy, I'm actually holding a Stormtrooper helmet in my hands.

Lots of work still left on this one, but I'm pretty happy with my accomplishment.

You should see the tube stripe test pieces, absolutely horrible no matter what way I paint.

Think I'll go for decals here.

You need to be happy with your helmet... if that means decals, go for it.

Personally, I did just that - hand painted everything except the tube stripes, and used the decals instead.

It's some kind of test fitting time. Nothing on the torso is really cut down to my size yet, but I don't think I have to trim away as much as I thought.
Still waiting for the canvas belt from RS.

FYI I'm 169 cm tall and weigh 56 kg, let the google converters roll.
 
How the heck do I deal with these wrinkles?
They look awful and need to be flattened out somehow.

If you plan to flatten them, you can either do a hot water bath, and press them flat with a piece of wood or other flat object - or you can try a hobby iron with a cloth cover, and keep it moving.

 

Another option is a heat gun - but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AGAINST IT - as the heat gun can overheat and warp your suit beyond repair in the blink of an eye. So, don't use that unless you have experience.

The shins tend to move up over my shoes when I walk, have to figure out some strapping here.
Maby some strap under the heel or something.
