Snaps[TK] Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) I did this last year and it was a great way to learn about everyone. With so many new members joining the ranks, figured why not do a new edition. What is the story behind your nickname? As a joke, a buddy of mine suggested Gee Buttersnaps that was used as a nickname in one of the episodes of show called Psych. We shortened it to Snaps. It was short and simple like a lot of clone trooper nicknames. Edited May 10, 2016 by Snaps 4 Quote
SkulShurtugalTCG[501st] Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 Mine is my YouTube name. It makes it easy to remember what my login is on all these websites. The story behind it: In 2003, Eragon came out. I read it and fell in love with it immediately. (It's that book with a dragon in it. It was made into a horrible movie in 2006. If you saw it, I'm sorry.) The words Skulblaka and Shur'tugal have big meanings in the book. Basically, they translate into "Dragon Rider", which is a big theme of the story. I chose that as my internet nickname in 2005, and I've had it, and variants of it, ever since. When I started a YouTube channel in 2012, I wanted it to have the same name as SkulblakaShurtugal, but shortened so people would remember it a bit easier. (Just "Skul" helps.) I added the TCG part to help show people I was a Pokemon channel. If I had known I'd get to be so popular, I would have just chosen a different name. But alas, I'm stuck with this one. Good luck pronouncing it. Or remembering it. 4 Quote
Airborne Trooper[501st] Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 Airborne Trooper because I was in the 82nd Airborne Division and was a paraTROOPER, now a sandTROOPER. Even my TD ID plays homage to my military service. 82573 = 82nd Airborne, 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment. 11 Quote
Buttons[TK] Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 Buttons....When I was working at a pharmacy a few years ago, one of the girls there has just watch "The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons." She started calling me Benjamin Buttons, but after a while it dropped to just Buttons. Name stuck for the time I was there. My new job knows the story, but rarely uses the nickname. 3 Quote

doomius[TK] Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) There was a time that I played guitar in a band and I was adamant that all my effects pedals be analog and not digital. I ordered an echo effects pedal and ran it through a wah-wah and a volume pedal, plugged in my guitar and started jamming. My bandmate quipped that it sounded like analog doom! I liked the term so much that I started to use that as my nickname, which got shortened to Doom, and then eventually morphed into Doomius! So there you have it lol! Dark PWF[Staff] Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 Dark is a name that I was tagged with a LONG, long time ago. When I was but a young, fresh-faced 19 year old Soldier in my first unit in Germany, during my first field problem it was very quickly discovered that I had rather excellent night vision. I was a Signal Soldier and worked with a commo shelter that had to have generators running 24/7 so the Field Artillery Detachment Commander would always make us set up our location at least 1/4 mile from their launchers and command post. As a result, whenever we had message traffic to deliver, it had to be carried to them from our location. The FNG was always assigned this task, as it was usually in the woods and pitch black outside, so you'd trip over roots, and get poked in the face by branches, or worse, fall into ditches and get stuck in trees/bushes. At any rate, it would easily take 30 minutes for a messenger to deliver the message and return. When I was sent out with my first message delivery, I was back in fifteen minutes, completely unharmed. They expected me to come back whining and complaining about it - like they'd all done on their first missions - and when I was back so soon, they assumed I just hid and came back without delivering the message. So they made me take one of them with me to verify that it had been delivered. When that Soldier couldn't keep up with me, and got stuck in bushes, fell in ditches, etc, he learned that I could see very well in the dark, and so they would just refer to me as Dark during any night ops.So, Dark eventually became my "go-to" username for gaming networks/internets etc, and when I eventually linked up with my XBL Clan-mates and Paintball team (CMF) that got tacked on to the end of it, and it's been in place for almost fifteen years now. 8 Quote
Kaar121[501st] Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 Mine isn't a nickname. It is derived from Specialist Jason Kaar. A star wars character I created a long time ago in a northern California apartment far away. Since then Kaar has become my star wars persona weather it be pen & paper RPG or video games.121(Bravo 121) was my badge number at one time and the number keeps popping up in one form or another. So it has become my number. 1 Quote
Bantha Fodder Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 The Star Wars Battlefront games gave the title "Bantha Fodder" to whoever died the most during the match. It makes me think of "that guy" on the team, the one trooper who's so incompetent it's a wonder he's still alive. Survives things like orbital strikes and wookie attacks, but trips over a rock because his helmet's foggy. I like that "idiot savant" trope and thought the best time to personify it would be when I'm anonymous It'll make for good fun once my armor comes in. 5 Quote
Pretzel Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 I have many "nicknames" from my real name... none really stick, and they bounce, my real name "Preston" my friends love to call me "Precious" which is a long story... lol but when it comes to online groups or gaming groups I have used a few. Only because I just can't decide. My current one "Razgriz" pronounced "RAWZZ-GREES" is from a childhood game. I love fighter planes, of all kinds, and Razgriz was the name of the main squadron in the game. Game was called Ace Combat 5 "The Unsung War." In short, it is a demon that later becomes the hero. A mythical story. If interested.. check out the wiki about it. http://www.acecombat.wikia.com/wiki/Razgriz "Admidst the eternal waves of time From a ripple of change shall the storm rise Out of the abyss peer the eyes of a demon Behold the Razgriz, its wings of black sheath The demon soars through dark skies Fear and death trail its shadow beneath Until men united wield a hallowed sabre In final reckoning, the beast is slain As the demon sleeps, man turn on man His own blood of madness soon cover the earth From the depths of despair awaken the Razgriz Its raven wings ablaze in majestic light" 2 Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 While waiting for my ATA armor to arrive I started a few projects, made an E-11 upgraded Hasbro, a pipe build E-11, a DLT-19 and a T21, still no armor I started making binders and offering them to the squad. As all these builds had been completed in such a short space of time I soon became known as the squad quartermaster and just as in the Bond movies this got shortened to Q. Never had a nickname before being part of the 501st so I'm pretty chuffed to have one now. 6 Quote
hupspring[TK] Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 Mine doesn't have that interesting of a backstory - it's based on the title of an obscure song from one of my favorite bands (James). I've had it since the 90s. 4 Quote
emmzone22[TK] Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) Mine is for Dallas Cowboys running back, Emmitt Smith, and his number was 22. Tolo[TK] Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Tolo is a nickname I have since I was 7-8 years old. Tolo are the last 4 letters of my last name. I remember when my friends gave me the nickname. We were giving each other nicknames. I'm the only one that it stuck. Tolo became more a name. Except my family (mom, grand-parents uncle...ect) everybody calls me Tolo. Even my 8 year old goddaughter lol. I sometimes don't even react when I hear Eric. Penguitrooper Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 My nickname is derived from a nickname given to me in high school from my younger brother. Penguin is the origin and that story goes like this... I was born with cerebral palsy and it mainly affected my legs and my walking. I have a slight waddle to my walk and it went unnoticed for 17 years until my brother and his friend started calling me penguin. It eventually stuck and it's been with me ever since. I added the trooper once I knew being a stormtrooper was my true calling in life. 6 Quote

JAFO[TK] Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 (edited) I first used JAFO as my CB handle when I was a teen. Its origins are in the military but I discovered it watching 'Blue Thunder'. Its meaning (Just Another F****ing Observer) is a perfect fit for forums, though I try to be more of a participant than an observer. Edited May 11, 2016 by JAFO 4 Quote

HaoleCop[501st] Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 In Hawaii, the word 'Haole' is most commonly used to describe a Caucasian or white person from the mainland. While I've been here going on 40 years, I am white, and therefore still a haole. The second part of it is my profession. Early in my career I was often referred to as the 'Haole Cop',even though I am local. I never take offense to it, although depending on the way it is used, 'haole' can he very derogatory. I can't wait until I reveal my shiny, white TK! 4 Quote
Warkicker Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Mine is what my high school football teammates use to call me. They combined part of my last name and position (place kicker and punter). Sometimes it was "War" or "Kick" but I was mostly called "Warkicker". I was the only one with a tri-syllabic nickname.

I had a little bit of a game time temper for a kicker and also had a knack for laying the wood on some unsuspecting kick returners on the occasion my kick offs weren't touch backs, in which case my teammates would scream "Waaarrrrr!!!!!" 5 Quote
themaninthesuitcase[Admin] Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 I've had mine for a long time now, around 99-00 ish. Back in the dark days before Microsoft bought hotmail, and yahoo! was still relevent I went through a few diferent psuedonums, but this one stuck. At the time I was listening to a cover of the Police song "Man in a Suitcase" by Goldfinger and well Themaninthesuitcase. The down side is it's a bit long so some places won't accept it so I also use maninsuitcase. Back in my mini days it was a mouthful so I was often called case, or old man case due to my often grumpy behaviour. It's pretty unique, though I messed up my Xbox live account and managed to orphan it and I some how don't have the yahoo account for it. 3 Quote
zv288bot[TK] Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Years back when I was looking for a "unique" online name that wasn't my classic first name first letter of last name and year born I was looking around my office trying to find something that would inspire me. As a fan of sci-fi I started to collect wind up robots. When I looked at my desk this little red robot had the markings on it's chest and I ran with it. I added the bot to the end to make it long enough for most sites. Zv288bot aka jorgem72 aka Jorge (preferred to be pronounced George). 2 Quote

AWOL Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Mine is pretty much obvious, I went AWOL (absent without leave for those that don't know) from the army but I had genuine reasons for it, to protect my mum from my off the rails brother... it stuck but I don't mind I've been called a lot worse and I'm glad they never stuck... the force? oh I'll use the force, bring me a hammer... 4 Quote
