Maxl[TK] Posted June 12, 2016 Author Report Posted June 12, 2016 I'm going to assemble the Thermal Detonator. Does anybody know the width of the end caps and how wide is the gap between the control panel and the end caps? Quote
troopermaster Posted June 13, 2016 Report Posted June 13, 2016 Between 20-25mm is good Original ROTJ detonator TM ROTJ detonator Quote
Maxl[TK] Posted June 22, 2016 Author Report Posted June 22, 2016 After a long time doing nothing (cause of my job) I continued trimming the Termal Detonator. These are the results at the moment: now I have to cut down the "pipe" to the required size 190,5mm (inclusive both endcaps). 1 Quote
Maxl[TK] Posted June 22, 2016 Author Report Posted June 22, 2016 The "pipe" is trimmed now and the second endcap is already glued. I meassured and cutted the "pipe" to the size I needed and rasp the end to get the endcap fit (I hope everyone understand my bad english ) After that I drawed a line to rasp until that line. The result after cutting, rasping and many test-fittings I glued the endcap. It fits perfect!!!190,5mm as required - Here I would note that I didn't 'cheat' with the scale by "moving it into right position"!!! Maybe tomorrow I can finish the TD (I hope so ...) - this is how it would looks like:cu 1 Quote

troopermaster Posted June 23, 2016 Report Posted June 23, 2016 (edited) Are the caps removable? You need to put the washers on the inside for the rivets holding the clips on. By the way, the pipe was cut the right length. All you had to do was file the ends then warm the end caps gently and they slide right on Edited June 23, 2016 by troopermaster Quote
Maxl[TK] Posted June 24, 2016 Author Report Posted June 24, 2016 Lol. Ok....I think I did something wrong... Quote
Maxl[TK] Posted June 25, 2016 Author Report Posted June 25, 2016 (edited) I removed one endcap now and will drill the two holes in the pipe. Then I will rivet the metal clips. should I know anything else about it? Edited June 25, 2016 by Maxl Quote
Maxl[TK] Posted June 25, 2016 Author Report Posted June 25, 2016 (edited) I took one of the endcaps off to drill and rivet the belt clips. First I meassured as in the CRL's required (=47,5mm): ... then the drill ...... controlling ... After rivetting of the belt clips I glued the endcap again. The length of the TD is still 190,5mm After that I want to glue the final part of the TD - the control panel:a look from the "side": I drawed a line to picture the position of the control panel. It is on the opposite of the rivets. Is that the right position? Edited June 25, 2016 by Maxl Quote
Maxl[TK] Posted June 25, 2016 Author Report Posted June 25, 2016 I still have some questions about the belt: -) Are the rivets at the half of the width of the ammo belt? -) Which distance has the rivet to the first "ammo box" of the belt? -) The corners are not rounded off and cutted at right angles, is that right? -) CRL: "The Drop Boxes are aligned under the plastic tabs of the ammo belt." - I'm not very good in English, ... what does this mean? Greets, Markus Quote
troopermaster Posted June 26, 2016 Report Posted June 26, 2016 The rivet goes in the middle of the belt and about 10mm from the end. ROTJ does not have plastic tabs (rivet covers) and there are only two rivets - one on each end so do not rivet the centre of the belt like ANH. The drop box elastic is connected to the rivet holding the belt on. So when you rivet the belt on, sandwich the elastic between the ABS ammo belt and your fabric belt, making sure you use a washer behind the ab plate to keep it secure. The drop box elastics are riveted on so again, use a washer on the inside of the drop inner drop box and do this before you glue the front half of the box. Quote

Thanks, but I think I don't quite understand... You mean that the ammo belt (plastic) is first then the strap for the drop box and then the belt (fabric), right? But you also said that I have to think about the washer BEHIND the ab plate. Do you mean that the belt is riveted on the ab plate too??? Where do I have to set the washer? Sorry for my ignorance Now there are so many questions ... How far dangle the drop boxes down from the belt? How much is the distance between the belt and the top of the drop boxes? How thick have to be the drop boxes? How does the strapping for the armor work? I know: "gluing" , but is there anything to care for or to know? Paul, can you send some pictures of "how strapping the armor", please? thanks, Markus Quote
troopermaster Posted June 28, 2016 Report Posted June 28, 2016 Yes, the belt is riveted to the ab plate and the drop box is just like ANH with little to no gap between it and the ammo belt. The thickness of the drop box is approximately 10mm. For the strapping, check the link to my ROTJ build on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/1546878132196713/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1621928628024996 Quote
Maxl[TK] Posted June 28, 2016 Author Report Posted June 28, 2016 (edited) cool, thx! Is it specified where the hole in the ab plate is? greets, Markus Edited June 28, 2016 by Maxl Quote
troopermaster Posted June 28, 2016 Report Posted June 28, 2016 I will see if I can get those measurements for you later today Quote
Maxl[TK] Posted June 28, 2016 Author Report Posted June 28, 2016 Thank you. Which glue do you use? Quote
troopermaster Posted June 28, 2016 Report Posted June 28, 2016 (edited) I used ABS glue on my ROTJ kit but you might be better off with white E6000. The ABS glue was made from ABS shavings and acetone which is what they used for the movie suits, but it's pretty hard core stuff so be warned if you use it. Maxl[TK] Posted June 28, 2016 Author Report Posted June 28, 2016 Here is the finished Thermal Detonator Quote
Maxl[TK] Posted June 29, 2016 Author Report Posted June 29, 2016 Paul, I still have found the measurements for the attachment, but it is the wrong for ROTJ. It's only for ANH (and ESB), I think. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/tutorials/article/34-howto-attach-your-belt-to-the-ab-plate-and-drop-boxes/ Do you have the measurements for me you wrote? greets, Markus Quote
troopermaster Posted June 29, 2016 Report Posted June 29, 2016 Those are not the correct measurements for an ROTJ. Bear with me, I have a broken ankle and not able to move much at the moment, but I will get the measurements for you tomorrow Quote
troopermaster Posted June 30, 2016 Report Posted June 30, 2016 The height of the holes are drilled 18mm above the cod plate. The distance from each end will be determined when you position the belt but try and space it out equally so the holes are drilled approximately the same distance from each end. Quote
Maxl[TK] Posted July 4, 2016 Author Report Posted July 4, 2016 Next step in my build are the drop boxes. One cut on each edge ......and after taht trimming with the scissors and stanley knifeafter trimming:I cut the drop boxes down to 11-12mm. If THIS is the hanger for my desired centurion status, then I gladly correct my work backsidefrontsideNext "project": BELT. First of all I meassured and drawed lines to know where to drill:after that I put a rubber washer between the elastic strap of the drop boxes. I don't know if that was unnecessary or not. But sure is sure Next step: drilling the belts (fabric and ABS ammo) and the AB plate:test fitting cannot hurt after all I drilled and riveted everything:Unfortunately I noticed too late that I have already to paint the buttons of the AB plate. But it is NOT TOO LATE, because I only riveted one side Next task for me: paint buttons Markus over and "AUT" Quote
Maxl[TK] Posted July 5, 2016 Author Report Posted July 5, 2016 The buttons on the AB plate are already painted. The colors are cited in this threat:http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/8117-helmet-ab-paint-detail-reference-guide/and that's my workflow:the rubber washer has the right diameter and so I drawed a circle for better painting the buttons:"Humbrol midnightblue gloss 15""Humbrol black gloss 21". I know it isn't 100% movie accurate, but I thought black looks better.I think it looks good ... 1 Quote
Maxl[TK] Posted July 6, 2016 Author Report Posted July 6, 2016 (edited) I correct the color and painted the black buttons grey"Humbrol Dark Admiral Grey 5"I have to repair and paint the buttons twice, because the color got cracks. Edited July 7, 2016 by Maxl Quote
