zv288bot[TK] Posted April 27, 2016 Author Report Posted April 27, 2016 (edited) Not much yesterday worked on my static prop gonk droid last night but I did stop by a couple spots to look for the items I'm gonna need for the snaps and elastics and such. The shins are rough trimmed, just have the thighs and the helmet which I'm holding off till the end. Lesson learned - lightly scoring multiple times with your knife is meant to be lightly. Bull in a china shop method leads to novus 1-2-3 down the road! ☺ Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk Edited April 27, 2016 by zv288bot Quote

zv288bot[TK] Posted April 28, 2016 Author Report Posted April 28, 2016 And these guys too... is it safe to assume the two "L"s go together and the two "R"s go together. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk Quote
BILLSID29 Posted April 28, 2016 Report Posted April 28, 2016 Jorge, Where did you see R's and L's on your legs? I tried to figure it out last night but couldn't find any. 1 Quote

The shins had them labeled on the top flashing part. The thighs did not. I just went with the lower part on the thighs has to be where the crotch is. At least I hope. 1 Quote
ComradeDave[TK] Posted April 28, 2016 Report Posted April 28, 2016 Looking good Jorge for sure, all looks good! Quote

Gotcha I'll double check mine, for your helmet did you get S-trim with it for the head opening or extra brow trim for that? Quote
zv288bot[TK] Posted April 28, 2016 Author Report Posted April 28, 2016 Gotcha I'll double check mine, for your helmet did you get S-trim with it for the head opening or extra brow trim for that?Funny that you mention that. I actually didn't get either. They are using the same trim for both the brow and neck opening. From what Mark and Mike told me, it should have been two pieces. My pieces grew some legs so they are totally taking care of it and shipping me out a brow trim. I told them not to worry about the neck opening trim because I bought some S trim from trooperbay. On a side note, I owned a ATA helmet for a couple of moments and his S trim was way bigger than trooperbays. Hopefully it won't be an issue come higher levels of approval. zv288bot[TK] Posted May 3, 2016 Author Report Posted May 3, 2016 Holy smokes... super easy... right of passage... stupid gonk droid... anyway, back to this regularly schedule program. So... I said I was gonna leave the helmet till last... yeah... that ain't happening... Can someone chime in on the eyes and teeth please and thank you. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk 2 Quote
68Brick[TK] Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 The eyes and teeth are very close! The eyes might need a little more taken out of them (have a look at an approved Centurion build for clear examples). The teeth might only need a bit of clean up and squaring off. Looking Good! 1 Quote
Airborne Trooper[501st] Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 Unless you're making a sandtrooper with the famous droopy/sleepy eye, you have some more material to remove. Follow the contour of the eye socket while still leaving the depth. 1 Quote
ComradeDave[TK] Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 looking good man, I also did the helmet first in hindsight it was a mistake. I should have done other stuff first as I was inexperienced with trimming and didn't have enough research under my belt. I shot first and asked questions later and ended up ruining 2 sets of ears and warped the right side of my helmet having to buy another one. Be extremely careful when trimming the ears if you don't like gaps I found it is ok to leave a little extra material on the backs of the flare that touches the cheek tubes. Installing the lenses wasn't very fun and took a lot of trial and error. After my heatgun fiasco I have opted to use as little heating on the armour as possible I'm gun shy now. Really sand out those eye holes to get them as flush as you can, and a flat needle file for the sides/top & bottoms, and a little square one for the corners of the teeth holes, work great for squaring them up. 2 Quote
zv288bot[TK] Posted May 3, 2016 Author Report Posted May 3, 2016 Perfect! Thanks for the info I will clean it up some more. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk Quote
ComradeDave[TK] Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 hey no problem Jorge, here to pass on any experience I can offer, you'll probably finish yours long before me lol 1 Quote
zv288bot[TK] Posted May 3, 2016 Author Report Posted May 3, 2016 Lookie lookie here... Snaps on sale at Tandy. Today was my lucky day!!! Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk 3 Quote
zv288bot[TK] Posted May 8, 2016 Author Report Posted May 8, 2016 Got everything but the ears done today. I'll tackle those tomorrow with fan installs and then I stamp this done. The lens and frown mesh are trooperbay. I also purchased an S gasket from him but it's way smaller than the one I had gotten with my previous ATA helmet. Has anyone had an issues with the size? It seems way small. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk 2 Quote
Sentry71[TK] Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Looks great! What is the size of the S trim he sent? I purchased some a while back, but never checked the size specifically against anything else. Quote

zv288bot[TK] Posted May 9, 2016 Author Report Posted May 9, 2016 Well only one ear sanded and fitted. It's Mother's Day so I spent the day with the wife and kids. Time well spent. Here are some pics. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk 1 Quote
zv288bot[TK] Posted May 9, 2016 Author Report Posted May 9, 2016 I also fitted a bracket and switch for my fans. Still need to do all the wiring. I saw this exact bracket and switch somewhere on this site and I wish I could give credit to the person who did it but at this point I have no idea where I saw it. Anyhow I really like the way it came out. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk 3 Quote
Airborne Trooper[501st] Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 That's the same S trim that I use no problems. 1 Quote
