Rainbow Posted February 16, 2016 Report Posted February 16, 2016 Hi there, I've been lingering for so long in different forums and allways wanted to builed my one TK, finally I decided to buy one and... I startet building my CFO-TK a week ago! Until now there have been a view bloody fingers and some panic attacks, but I'm fine, I guess..and so is the armor! The helmet is done so far, eyes und paint are still missing, I've got a problem with one of the ears, I'll load up some photos later, the glue is not dry yet. More or less all the other parts have been cut out and the white trimm is fixed on the edges as well.I have had no problems so far, but today I was trimming the arm parts. Well I'm 1,78m tall but only 53kg "heavy"...I think this explanes why the armparts more or less just fall of without even touching man hand. Probably my arm could fit twice in the armor. (Sorry for the awful quality of the pictures)Is there any possibility in making them a bit tighter? Or is padding the only way to do it, I think it would look quite weird when the arm is as thick as the padding...? That's it for now, I hope maybe someone has an answer for my problem!Cheers,Bianca Quote
justjoseph63[Staff] Posted February 16, 2016 Report Posted February 16, 2016 That armor is using the "overlap" method for joints, Bianca. To make it tighter (which it really needs.. it it WAY too loose) you will need to use the butt joint and cover strip method. Check out Tony's (ukswrath) section of his Anovos build thread for some perfect examples of how this is done. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/35086-ukswraths-anovos-tk-build/page-17#entry464966 Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted February 16, 2016 Report Posted February 16, 2016 Hello and welcome aboard good luck with the build Quote
Rainbow Posted February 17, 2016 Author Report Posted February 17, 2016 Hi, thanks for the answer justjoseph63, the problem with the arms is that it's a RTOJ trooper and because of that coverstrip und butt joint are not allowed, not even for rank two.Forearm ArmorFor 501st approval: Forearms are fully closed. For level two certification (if applicable): No return edge on the inside of the front of the forearm is allowed. Forearms use the overlap construction method. Using the butt joint and cover strips is not allowed. Thank you gmrhodes13 Quote
Disco Posted February 17, 2016 Report Posted February 17, 2016 Yep if you're going for approval and higher don't use the coverstrip method - you'll definitely have to use padding - maybe try and color it black so it blends with the undersuit a little - but stay true to the CRL during the build so you don't need to change anything. Looking great so far! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Rainbow Posted February 17, 2016 Author Report Posted February 17, 2016 I cut down the edges a bit further and now it looks quite ok. Someone suggested to me to cut off one of the edged completely, that would give me another view mm, but I fear that it's not "overlapping method" anymore when I do so. What do you guys think? Ah here are the pictures of the tighter one now. Quote
troopermaster Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 Do not cut them down any more. They will feel fine once you have them strapped up to your bicep armour. The forearms should be loose anyway and not snug, so they look ready to be glued together now Quote
scott.lindsay.5209 Posted February 20, 2016 Report Posted February 20, 2016 Let me knowx how you get on with the calves. Had to shim my CFO to fit but interested in your fit Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk Quote
Rainbow Posted February 22, 2016 Author Report Posted February 22, 2016 Glued the forearm now, think it looks quite ok.I painted some parts of the helmet already, the rest of the colours are still on their way... that kind of annoys me because I ordered them about a week ago.Tonight I glued the biceps parts together too. @ scott.lindsay.5209 I don't think I will need to shim the calves that much, they fit quite well when I tried them on with tape, but we'll see Pictures of the "end version" of the forearm and the painting: Quote
troopermaster Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 Here are a few photos of original ROTJ helmets I posted in another thread to show the eyes are trimmed out quite a lot more than most people are used to when it comes to building ROTJ helmets. Quote
Rainbow Posted February 22, 2016 Author Report Posted February 22, 2016 Awesome thank you, then I will cut out the eyes a bit more! Quote
Rainbow Posted February 23, 2016 Author Report Posted February 23, 2016 Here we go again. Thought I might show you some (well actually a lot) of picures of what I have done now, sorry for the bad quality...my smartphone isn't that good. Let's start with the biceps, not very spectacular, but at least done. The rest of the arm looks like this at the moment (the second forearm is a little shucks and is not fitting yet...) Helmet is ready!! Now I've got a question... the shins... I hate them so much couldn't find out if they're right now. I have to replace one half anyway because I cut of the returnedge on top. But here is the fitting so far, is it right like this? Quote
scott.lindsay.5209 Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 Yep I'm having problems with the calves. Having to fit shims. Will be interesting to see how you get on. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk Quote
scott.lindsay.5209 Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 Calves fit without boots but when they are on it knocks out the fitting. Allow for this. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk Quote
troopermaster Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 I believe the CFO shins are identical for both legs so you cannot get them wrong Just make sure you assemble them with the overlap the opposite way to the other leg and you will be fine. Also, test fit with your boots on and do not worry too much about trimming the return edge. You do not 'need' to have a return edge and I would not go as far as to buy a new one just because you trimmed it away 1 Quote
Rainbow Posted February 26, 2016 Author Report Posted February 26, 2016 Thanks for the advice with the shins! This time I was trying to fit the torso armor. Because my abs plate is damaged and I will get another one I just put the three other plates together. Well.... the sides overlapp quite a "bit" should I trim them a bit down or leave them and strap them together? The white trim for the edges is already cut, but I pulled it off several times with the tape so I put it down for the fit. Quote
Rainbow Posted June 18, 2016 Author Report Posted June 18, 2016 Hey guys, I've had a lot to do recently and wasn't able upload my progress. So here we go: The Amobelt around the thigh is attached as well now and the Strapping is done, but I guess I'm to thin..... When I wear it you can directly look into the armor from the sides.... I don't really know what I did wrong or can do against it, because padding is no option in this case I think. Do you guys have any idea how to fix it? I thought about cutting the top of the chest to make it a bit shorter and cutting the shoulderstraps a bit aswell. You can see the gap, circled with red Help meeeee! Please ^^ Quote
troopermaster Posted June 18, 2016 Report Posted June 18, 2016 It looks like your chest plate is hanging too low. Try pulling it up higher and add a strap from the back plate to the chest (under your arms) to pull the chest in like on the original armour. Quote
Rainbow Posted June 20, 2016 Author Report Posted June 20, 2016 Ok then I'll try that! Thank you Quote
