TK4205 Posted February 15, 2016 Report Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) Suit up in no time. All by yourself. One inch square HIPS from my scrap bin. I cut a 3/4" inch hole and glued together. This is the socket for the magnet plug. I used a dremel to make my socket round. Dremelled 1/4" holes in the shins. Super Magnets from Home Depot. Pack of 3 for under $4. I used E6000 to stick the magnets and CA glue to attach the socket to the armor. Edited March 4, 2021 by gmrhodes13 photos updated gmrhodes13 2021 13 Quote
shadan[TK] Posted February 15, 2016 Report Posted February 15, 2016 That's a fantastic idea. I just may have to do something similar with my upcoming build! Quote
BobasDent1138 Posted February 15, 2016 Report Posted February 15, 2016 Awesome!! I'll have to try that when I get my fiberglass in! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk Quote
Daetrin[Admin] Posted February 16, 2016 Report Posted February 16, 2016 I was luck enough to be the crash test dummy on this. I can 100% for sure say that it works as advertised. It's magic, truly, and really allows you to get in / out by yourself. 4 Quote

netslave[501st] Posted February 20, 2016 Report Posted February 20, 2016 Are there magnets on both sides of the clip or is it just metal on one side? Quote
TK4205 Posted February 20, 2016 Author Report Posted February 20, 2016 Are there magnets on both sides of the clip or is it just metal on one side? magnets on both sides. I tried metal clips first, but they wouldn't line up and lock in place. 1 Quote
netslave[501st] Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 I just added these to my wife's soon-to-be Phasma. Great mod! I'm trying to think of what more I need to use magnets for now! Quote

artimorty Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 It looks a great idea!
Just a question. Being super magnets and rare earth magnets so very much atracted one to his counterpart other... Is it difficult to unsuit yourself alone once you are in the suit? Do you think the armor will eventually suffer stress or cracks if you have to force the two sides to open it? If not, this will be a cool way to go on my built to come, and much more sci fi than elastics or brackets.
Great idea... Thanks for sharing. Quote

With plastic, they stay separated enough so it's not hard to get apart. Lot less stressful than velcro or snaps. 1 Quote

VancouverTrooper Posted April 25, 2016 Report Posted April 25, 2016 This is a great idea. Is there a how to video somewhere? Ideas on how to cutout those nice circles? Quote
TK4205 Posted April 26, 2016 Author Report Posted April 26, 2016 I use a dremmel and a small sanding barrel. I use a large sanding barrel to dremmel it round. The round magnets work best. I will be offering up a kit shortly. I just have to figure out a price first. 1 Quote
DisposablHero[501st] Posted April 26, 2016 Report Posted April 26, 2016 Absolutely brilliant. I have a friend that's done something similar for some of his Mando parts, but I had forgotten about it. I'll definitely be keeping this in mind when I get started on my Phasma. Quote
virimpact Posted April 26, 2016 Report Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) 1/4" or did you mean 3/4" magnets since your HIPS squares are 1". The magnets I found at HD are .7". I'm assuming those are the ones u also got. Thanks for this tutorial. Edited April 26, 2016 by virimpact Quote
Coil[TK] Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 How do you attach the posterior? Same as ukswrath but without the velcro bits? Quote
