boneyboy007[TK] Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Hi all - newbie from the UK here. If this is a really dumb question I apologies in advance but can anyone tell me why in almost all of the photos of kit assembly projects.. nearly everyone seems to be using blue masking tape to hold things together (along with magnets and clamps which I understand) even though they are not spray painting.?? Why the blue stuff and not the normal cream coloured masking tape.? Is it simply "because that what I have to hand" or am I missing something more technical that this? Cheers T 1 Quote
sskunky Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 No reason at all. <br> Maybe blue is more common in the us but you can use any colour you like. I like green. Lol Quote
humperdingle Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Easier to see against the white armour? Dunno, mate. Quote
bh0385[501st] Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Probably because the blue painters tape doesn't leave residue and isn't so sticky that you risk pulling up the clear plastic when you take it off. It also makes for a better way to mark lines as it is more visible against the white. 4 Quote
boneyboy007[TK] Posted February 12, 2016 Author Report Posted February 12, 2016 ahh.. ok cool. thanks for that guys. First cut tomorrow so going through everything tonight in readiness. Quote
I'm Batman[501st] Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 I had no idea either. Here in Australia the blue stuff is the expensive painters stuff. Standard cream coloured tape worked fine for me. It's all I ever use for any of my builds (unless using it to mask paint, then it's rubbish). However, if cost isn't a worry for you go for it. Quote
Snaps[TK] Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 No particular reason I know of. Could be what they picked up and nothing more. Best of luck with your build. Measure multiple times, cut once Quote
ukswrath[Staff] Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Painters tape, blue or white leaves very little residue. Some armor requires painting so recommending everyone use the same thing is best practice to avoid possible issues. 1 Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 I find it is easier to remove and does not leave a sticky residue Quote

Thanks guys and thanks Tony - just going through your ANOVOS TK build thread as we speak with a fine tooth comb in readiness for tomorrow. Quote
Daetrin[Admin] Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 It's what was in my garage? Seriously, it comes off pretty easy without residue is the main reason. Quote
Dark PWF[Staff] Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 Well, even in the movies, the 501st had blue striping and details on the armor. Screen accuracy and all that. The yellow looks a bit garish in my opinion. Quote
C0bra_M3nace Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 Lol. I used green. No worries! Quote
