humperdingle Posted February 6, 2016 Report Posted February 6, 2016 (edited) Trying to do a scratch-build blaster, sourcing what I can from the garage where possible.

Starting with the 40mm waste pipe (The only expense so far at £4 for 3m) , I used the download pdf template to drill the holes. Pilot holes first, then opened-up.

I installed a length of steel pipe as a dummy barrel, which adds a good bit of weight. Used slices of beech wood to make 'cups, or sockets', to hold the barrel in place.
Pretty much the rest of the pipe has been filled with the same beech wood (a rolling pin, which was a perfect, tight fit for the pipe).

In the process of fabricating the muzzle parts from (yep) more slices of the same wood!

Pictures below: Edited February 6, 2016 by humperdingle Quote

humperdingle Posted February 6, 2016 Author Report Posted February 6, 2016 Thanks, Sith Lord. I did manage the same thing yesterday but for some reason, it wasn't happening for me earlier! 1 Quote
I'm Batman[501st] Posted February 7, 2016 Report Posted February 7, 2016 Good start. Getting the holes lined up, even using a template, is the first challenge. Great job Quote
charlesnarles Posted February 8, 2016 Report Posted February 8, 2016 Yeah, your holes look nice! Keep up the good work Quote
humperdingle Posted February 8, 2016 Author Report Posted February 8, 2016 Thanks, the pointed wood bit for pilot holes made it much easier. made some more progress - scope rail, leather bonded to handle, which will get shaped and embossed with chequering and a wooden scope (looks weird in the pic but better in real life (honest!). humperdingle Posted February 8, 2016 Author Report Posted February 8, 2016 (Scope isn't assembled, maybe that's why it looks weird??) Quote
humperdingle Posted February 10, 2016 Author Report Posted February 10, 2016 Wee bit more work on the handle - shaped a 'U' shape at the top, same contour as the 40mm pipe. Still needs to be way rounder.
I'm currently looking for a bit of close mesh to cut to size, so I can emboss the chequering. My pencil pot has exactly the right shape but don't really want to butcher it! Quote

My pencil pot has exactly the right shape but don't really want to butcher it! Well, that couldn't have worked out much better! I butchered the mesh pencil pot into two rough sheets. First, I used a washer to imprint the 'free-lock' circle. Then, sandwiched the handle between the two mesh sheets and treated it to a session in the vice... Quote
humperdingle Posted February 11, 2016 Author Report Posted February 11, 2016 And with some black leather dye added, 'FREE - LOCK' embossed. Lettering is a bit big but it's the closest I have. Handle could still do with some shaping. Always easier to see where, when it's a uniform colour. 1 Quote
MadMax Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 Great build so far. Clever use of the pencil pot, it turned out great. Quote
humperdingle Posted February 11, 2016 Author Report Posted February 11, 2016 Great build so far. Clever use of the pencil pot, it turned out great. Thanks! It's not gonna be a pretty build Quote
charlesnarles Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 I like it! One tip for accuracy, the handle has a very rounded shape to it, not blocky like many replicas are. Great fabrication tho! Quote
Thrawn's guard Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) Mark I think the chequering effect you have made for the handle works really well. Edited February 13, 2016 by Thrawn's guard Quote
humperdingle Posted February 13, 2016 Author Report Posted February 13, 2016 Thanks. This blaster will be displayed in the bin Getting a bit fed up with it tbh - Might have to start over. I mean I'll finish it, but probably burn it like Vader. It's looking uglier at every stage Quote

It's looking uglier at every stage OK, it's finished. Thank the lord. Must admit, it was annoying me I really need to learn patience Anyway, a pic for anyone interested. Cost me £1 for the 2ft of pipe and £2 for the T-strips. Everything else was fabricated or shaped from metal/plastic/wood. Don't zoom into the pic too much Over and out. Quote
humperdingle Posted February 14, 2016 Author Report Posted February 14, 2016 A bit of weathering and I wash my hands of this carbuncle Quote
kevin926 Posted February 15, 2016 Report Posted February 15, 2016 I think you did a pretty good job on it. You scratch built it and kept the cost extremely low. Congrats. Quote

humperdingle Posted February 20, 2016 Author Report Posted February 20, 2016 Ok, the lack of any folding stock effort was annoying me, so at the extreme cost of £0, I bolted one on Quote
humperdingle Posted February 26, 2016 Author Report Posted February 26, 2016 Last pic, I promise. Added a couple of crappy wires and a D-ring, but not shown in the pic. Quote
