Troopacoola[TK] Posted March 11, 2016 Author Report Posted March 11, 2016 Another quick question.... The thighs are overlap method. Do I need to go butt join for EIB? Only there is no "molded" cover on the inside pieces of either thighs. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk Quote

ukswrath[Staff] Posted March 11, 2016 Report Posted March 11, 2016 Is it possible to cut the overlap down to perform butt joints with slightly larger cover strips without affecting sizing and then reinforce with internal cover strips to fill in the gap? My first set of armor was overlap, with CA glue. I was able to split the seams with a hammer and butter knife. Rebuilt the entire armor to SWAT level. It's doable if you have the patience and stomach 1 Quote

Remove the whole overlap (between red lines ) and butt together with cover? Would this be allowed ? As there would be no raised part on the front, apart from the cover strip over a flat seam. Pyrates[TK] Posted March 11, 2016 Report Posted March 11, 2016 I was just looking at that pic again - do both pieces have a raised overlap? Can I also see the inside seam if possible? Quote
Troopacoola[TK] Posted March 11, 2016 Author Report Posted March 11, 2016 I was just looking at that pic again - do both pieces have a raised overlap? Can I also see the inside seam if possible?Only one has a raised seam. That's my concern about removing the one raised seam. If they had both I would year them apart and do the butt method. I don't think it could get cleared with no raised seam. I apologise for the condition. Like I said, when I first got it I didn't know what I was doing when I built it! Troopacoola[TK] Posted March 15, 2016 Author Report Posted March 15, 2016 I have been thinking long and hard about using the heat iron to replicate the piece that was chopped off. And to be honest am really anxious / reluctant to. Is there any way around this? Here's what I have.... The green highlights the shape of the outer thigh with the original molded raised seam. The purple on the inner has had the respective seam removed. Do I remove the remaining molded cover and butt the inner to the outer an place a cover strip which would look like this? Is this clearable? I am am really concerned as it should look like this. Would love to hear what you guys suggest. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk 1 Quote
Troopacoola[TK] Posted March 15, 2016 Author Report Posted March 15, 2016 Had a thought. Would it be possible to run abs paste down the seam, sand it down and polish it up? Or would this be too corrosive? Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 Pretty risky to use paste - possible bubbles and a lot of sanding. Try sending a PM to Andrew or Tony they might be able to guide you. Quote
Troopacoola[TK] Posted March 16, 2016 Author Report Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) Having accepted that the thighs are as they are, and not much I can do about them at the moment ( but still open to suggestions! ) I have decided to carry on the rebuild none the less. As I have ordered a new belt and have covers on the way I thought I would begin the prep. I have removed the old press stud covers which were used. Attached the drop boxes via studs ( I will change this method to the loop system further down the line if needed ) which when hanging free give around 1 mm clearance between boxes and belt. Marked out the 45° cuts I have to make in order to correct the rounded corners. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk Edited March 20, 2016 by CTID 1 Quote
