sebastien Posted January 30, 2016 Report Posted January 30, 2016 Hello, This is my day !!! After around 1 year on the waiting list, i'm one of the happy few to get the ATA Kit ! I feel so excited to start this build but also so scared Big Brow box is here : That's a LOT of pieces : Let's start ! Quote
sebastien Posted January 30, 2016 Author Report Posted January 30, 2016 Ok, let's start with the forearms First identify the sides of the pieces And use the dremel to start the cuttings OK, i will check more pictures, but i think i need to trim more the return edge on the wrist side of the forearms Does the wrist side really needs to be FLAT (i mean only the 2mm of the ABS) ? It's a little bit scary to sand beside the mold mark... Quote
Coastertk Posted January 30, 2016 Report Posted January 30, 2016 Remove all of the return edge!! It will be just the 2mm of ABS yes. Wrist side only. Quote
sebastien Posted January 30, 2016 Author Report Posted January 30, 2016 OK clear, looking at fokker210 centurion application, it's clear that i need to sand to the ABS : http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/34689-tk-22308-requesting-anh-stunt-centurion-status-ata-208/?hl=%2Bata+%2Bcenturion Quote
sebastien Posted January 31, 2016 Author Report Posted January 31, 2016 Cutting the strip. using the ruller and a cutter Checking the fit and glue the inside strip and then assembling I also trimmed the wrist return edges. Do you think they are ok, or i need to trim more ? Quote
Coastertk Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 A little hard to tell from the photo, but if you can feel any rolled edge I would remove it. Also keep in mind that the right fore arm is much bigger than the left when it come to fitting. Quote
sebastien Posted February 2, 2016 Author Report Posted February 2, 2016 I glued the finishing strip on the forearms. I must admit i am really surprised by the amount of force needed to joint both sides together... That's something i didn't expected. I needed to use high strength clamps and needed to clamp both sides as the glue started to detatch from the other side... Quote
sebastien Posted February 3, 2016 Author Report Posted February 3, 2016 OK, one arm close to finish... I am really not satisfied with one of the strips... The force is so high that the glue is not strong enough to keep the shape... I will try to add more glue and see if i can fit it... Maybe i should have started with the front strip BEFORE the inner strip. A gap on the inner strip causes less problems than a gap on the outer strip. In the meantime, i start glueing the biceps Quote
sebastien Posted February 4, 2016 Author Report Posted February 4, 2016 And another forearm ready for service :-) I'm still not happy with the gaps on one side I clamped as hard as i can, but it does not seems to be enough Did you experienced the same ? Is it a good idea to use white bathroom Silicon to fill the gap or i should forget it ? Quote
sebastien Posted February 6, 2016 Author Report Posted February 6, 2016 Today, i glued the outer cover strips on the biceps No problem on one the other one has more problems to fit (as with one of the forearms), so i decided to sand before applying the strip to have a flat surface that makes easier to apply the strip Next step : Trim the shoulder bells and start cutting the shims and gluing, this time starting with the outer strip : next steps tomorrow ! Quote
Coastertk Posted February 8, 2016 Report Posted February 8, 2016 That left shin is a much tighter fit than the right 1 Quote
sebastien Posted February 8, 2016 Author Report Posted February 8, 2016 Thank you for your support guys I'll keep on working on the legs. I'm so lucky because i realize i was close to a big mistake. ATA gives me 2 long sheets of white ABS and 2 short ones for the strips. I started cutting the long ones for my arms strips until i realize i can be short with the ABS length for my legs ! I just realize that when i was at the exact size needed for my legs Anyway, i glues the front strips on the legs I need to move for my job, so next update will be this week-end. Quote
sebastien Posted February 25, 2016 Author Report Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) OK, so I finished the work on the legs Also gluing inner strips And legs are ready ! OK, now gluing the inner strip on the shins Gluing the 25mm back strip And glued the velcro Ok, time to create some button plates for next step Edited February 25, 2016 by sebastien Quote
sebastien Posted March 7, 2016 Author Report Posted March 7, 2016 Back on the build ! I cut and glued the sniper plate I then create the bicep hooks, marked them and use a soldering iron to dig the lines The i used boiling water and a plier to create the hooks I glued them on the biceps Next, i glued the elastic strap on the shoulder bell Quote
sebastien Posted March 7, 2016 Author Report Posted March 7, 2016 for the ammo belt around the right leg, i will need to identify the legs. Both legs do not have the same length. Do you know which one is the shortest one (left or right) ? My guess would be that the shortest one is the one that should receive the ammo belt, but i prefer to be sure tank you for your help Quote
sebastien Posted March 8, 2016 Author Report Posted March 8, 2016 sorry my question is a nonsense, it's really easy to identify right and left when you put them on the floor :-) Another (more relevant) question. Which of these 2 pictures is the good one ? Picture A : or Picture B : I don't know which side i should use for the Kidney plate... Quote
lucnak[TK] Posted March 9, 2016 Report Posted March 9, 2016 Your kidney plate should curve upward at the top...it follows the same curve as your ab. Bottom is flat and it should be flush with your butt plate. Quote
sebastien Posted March 14, 2016 Author Report Posted March 14, 2016 Next round ! I finished the strapping on the arms I then trim the leg ammo belt The split rivets were quite complex to deploy inside the legs, but i finally managed it I then prepared the belt platic and applied the button plates where the strapping is required I then prepared the shoulder straps And the nylon shoulder strapping Some work on the button plates I'm just waiting for the blue paint. I already used the black and grey on my bucket but as i used DaveM decals on the bucket, i forget to order blue paint. I will have to wait for it ... Quote
sebastien Posted March 14, 2016 Author Report Posted March 14, 2016 I also have another question to locate where i should add the button snaps on the AB plate to secure the belt. I checked that schema from Billhag, but i am wondering why the right button (right when you are in the armor, so left on the picture) is 28mm from the relief where the other one is 59mm ? Why do we don't centered them ? Quote
Airborne Trooper[501st] Posted March 14, 2016 Report Posted March 14, 2016 The ab plate is not symmetrical. If you want a detailed tutorial for this section, check out any one of ukswrath's build threads. I did exactly like he did except I used snaps instead of the s-snaps. Quote
sebastien Posted March 14, 2016 Author Report Posted March 14, 2016 Great, thank you i will check ukswrath's build thread Quote
sebastien Posted March 16, 2016 Author Report Posted March 16, 2016 I installed the cod rivet and a button plate for the strap I also marked the male button on the butt plate And apply the snap rivet Quote
sebastien Posted March 16, 2016 Author Report Posted March 16, 2016 I prepared some nylon strapping for the AB chest plate Using a soldering iron and a piece of abs as a guidance, i drill holes inside the nylon and then fixed the snaps I prepared some double button plates and fixed them on the AB plate and kidney plate End result : Quote
