Hi all - getting ready to buy my Aker & icomm. Thoughts on the 10 watt vs 12 watt (or higher?). Is the 10w enough, or is bigger better?? Price difference is minimal, so that's not the issue. 12w does appear slightly physically larger, but twice the weight (0.41lb vs 0.92lb). Not sure if that is a huge deal or not. Thoughts/opinions/recommendations?

Agreed. Either will work with plenty of volume even in crowded spaces but the 12 watt is larger, so depending on where you plan on placing it that could be an issue.

I say louder is better. Or at least the option to be louder. There will be a time when you want louder than the 10w can provide. I rock the 12w but I also like to be annoyingly loud.

Will the 12w fit in the back armor space?

I have no idea. Mine sits behind my chest plate to be heard by the person I'm speaking to.

Also being tall it's right at ear level for everyone else. Heh heh.

Thinking of having behind chest piece (never understood having at back). Will the 12w fit there?

Yep. See above. That is where mine sits.

I went the louder is better way as well. It is bigger and took a little extra thought in attachment but it is nice to have the extra volume when you want it. I'm happy with my 12w.

How I mounted my amp, is I use the strap it came with and just hang it about my neck.. It sits between my ab and chest armour comfortably.

My personal sound system - on the left is an Aker MR1506 10w voice amp w mic, on the right is my ancient iPod Classic (which is bulky and heavy but because of that it also makes a nice counterweight to the MR1506).

The amp has two input jacks, one for the mic headset and one for an auxiliary line-in port. I use TD-2243's "TK Loop" that mimics stormtrooper radio chatter as background noise.

Not shown: I also have an iComm mounted in that gap between the Aker amp and the iPod. Also, ignore the rare earth magnets - I only used them to hold the elastic strapping down while the E6000 was curing.

I went with a 12 W because of the longer battery life. I'm very happy with it. I hardly ever turn it up more than one third of the volume.
