Millar007[501st] Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 (edited) Hi all - getting ready to buy my Aker & icomm. Thoughts on the 10 watt vs 12 watt (or higher?). Is the 10w enough, or is bigger better?? Price difference is minimal, so that's not the issue. 12w does appear slightly physically larger, but twice the weight (0.41lb vs 0.92lb). Not sure if that is a huge deal or not. Thoughts/opinions/recommendations?<br><br><br> <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://store.voicebooster.com/voicebooster-mr1506-aker-10watt-voice-amplifier/%27' class="bbc_url" title="External link">http://store.voicebooster.com/voicebooster-mr1506-aker-10watt-voice-amplifier/'>http://store.voicebooster.com/voicebooster-mr1506-aker-10watt-voice-amplifier/</a><br><br></a><br> <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://store.voicebooster.com/voicebooster-mr1505-aker-12watt-voice-amplifier/%27' class="bbc_url" title="External link">http://store.voicebooster.com/voicebooster-mr1505-aker-12watt-voice-amplifier/'>http://store.voicebooster.com/voicebooster-mr1505-aker-12watt-voice-amplifier/</a></a> Edited January 3, 2016 by Millar007 Quote
PiettLives[TK] Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 Either work well and the 10w is fine and plenty loud. Quote
tkrestonva[TK] Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 Agreed. Either will work with plenty of volume even in crowded spaces but the 12 watt is larger, so depending on where you plan on placing it that could be an issue. Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 I say louder is better. Or at least the option to be louder. There will be a time when you want louder than the 10w can provide. I rock the 12w but I also like to be annoyingly loud. -Eric Quote
cedron[501st] Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 Will the 12w fit in the back armor space? Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 Will the 12w fit in the back armor space? I have no idea. Mine sits behind my chest plate to be heard by the person I'm speaking to. Also being tall it's right at ear level for everyone else. Heh heh. -Eric Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Millar007[501st] Posted January 3, 2016 Author Report Posted January 3, 2016 Thinking of having behind chest piece (never understood having at back). Will the 12w fit there? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

astrocling Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 I went the louder is better way as well. It is bigger and took a little extra thought in attachment but it is nice to have the extra volume when you want it. I'm happy with my 12w. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
PiettLives[TK] Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 Of course I forgot to mention that I have a 50w Pyle Pro in my chest plate with an ICOMM next to it!!! 1 Quote

cedron[501st] Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 Could you guys share any pictures of how you mounted your Akers in your chest armor? Quote
TK 2759[501st] Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 How I mounted my amp, is I use the strap it came with and just hang it about my neck.. It sits between my ab and chest armour comfortably. Quote
Millar007[501st] Posted January 4, 2016 Author Report Posted January 4, 2016 Decided to just hang this around my neck... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 3 Quote

PiettLives[TK] Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 Both of mine are mounted in my chest with Velcro. Quote
tkrestonva[TK] Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 My personal sound system - on the left is an Aker MR1506 10w voice amp w mic, on the right is my ancient iPod Classic (which is bulky and heavy but because of that it also makes a nice counterweight to the MR1506). The amp has two input jacks, one for the mic headset and one for an auxiliary line-in port. I use TD-2243's "TK Loop" that mimics stormtrooper radio chatter as background noise. Not shown: I also have an iComm mounted in that gap between the Aker amp and the iPod. Also, ignore the rare earth magnets - I only used them to hold the elastic strapping down while the E6000 was curing. Quote
IceStormTK[TK] Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 I went with a 12 W because of the longer battery life. I'm very happy with it. I hardly ever turn it up more than one third of the volume. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
Millar007[501st] Posted January 4, 2016 Author Report Posted January 4, 2016 Battery life is a good point! Think I'm sold on the 12v Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
