gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) Well our major Christmas Pageant in Perth was cancelled Saturday due to forecasted rain and thunderstorms, first time it had been cancelled in 44 years, so we attended a smaller parade on Sunday in a local suburb. This is Australia in summer right!!! EVENT: Armadale Christmas Parade - Prior to Carols by Candlelight LOCATION: Jull Street Armadale DATE: 6th December TIME: 6-7.45pm LANDSCAPE/WEATHER: Outdoors, Rain, Overcast CHARITY: Salvation Army Christmas Appeal Food Bank ORGANISER: Liz TROOPERS: TB13310 Liz TK85421 Q SL51164 Stuart TK10469 Ben WRANGLERS: Michael Rodney Emilse GA: Gabriel Alyssa REPORT: The day was not looking good but the organisers were confident the parade would go ahead, even posting a photo at midday of blue skies, which funnily we did not seem to have overhead in the same suburb . Troops arrived at 5pm and so did the rain, it looked as if it was going to be a wash out but we decided to kit up in the car park and see what happened, great idea to start off with but soon we realised all the other participants started to assemble in an area behind us in clear view, many shouts of Vader, Vader and Stormtrooper, Stormtrooper had us kitted up very quickly. Rain had stopped and although still cloudy and overcast we made our way over to the assembly area, many photos were then taken with other participants. A spit of rain and we all immediately huddled under the Vader's umbrella, it didn't last long and we regained our composure. Participants were sent off in groups and stopped in sections through the parade route for photos, it worked well at first but we found near to the end that everyone started bunching up, we even got overtaken by Santa and his helper. We ended the parade in the park setup for the carols and spent some time walking around and having more photos with the public. My first troop in the new kit was topped off when I received my first "look Mum, that's a new one from the new movie, I want a photo with him". Darkness approached and the carols began and we called it a night, we headed back to the car park and found the second glitch to our change area, all the light turned off. We managed to change, said our goodbyes, Liz while driving out received a yell from a Farther and his son "look there's the Stormtrooper car", downside to changing next to the Goose (a 1960 Morris Minor nicknamed Goose). Was very surprising the turnout for the event with the conditions, lots of people stayed for the carols, over all a great success. Many thanks to our wranglers that kept us safe and guided us in the right direction, also to our GA's kids who did amazingly and not one complaint (Rodney did need to carry one very tired Alyssa back to the car). INJURIES: none CASUALTIES: none ARMOR REPAIRS: none HAPPY PEOPLE: nearly everyone and especially "My Lord" who was presented a burger voucher from a youngling (he chuckled when he found out nobody else got one) UNHAPPY PEOPLE: one or two younglings which is the norm MISSION STATUS: complete REPORT BY: TK85421 Edited July 20, 2021 by gmrhodes13 photo updated 3 Quote
