Hello, all! I'll be getting ready to start constructing armor soon (within the next month or two, hopefully), and I've been thinking about what all I can do to really make my armor a little bit extraordinary. I'd like to collect ideas for non-electronic modifications for TK armor that don't affect the way the armor looks, but change the way it works (hopefully for the better). I'm talking about things like plasti-dipping the inside of your helmet, adding bells and whistles to the inside of the armor to make things fit better or give storage space, structural support tips, basically anything that I might not have seen that will make trooping just a little easier. I think that the best way to figure most of this stuff out is by building the armor and then seeing what needs fixing and coming up with solutions, but I'm sure that the folks on here have lots of great tips and tricks, so I figured I'd ask.

Alright! Anybody have any super cool mods they want to share? Even if it's just the idea for a mod. You don't have to have done it already. Fire away!

Hey Tomas,

I can share a few. I grabbed a few pics too.

One mod that I wish more troopers would do is adding foam inside their thighs and shins to correct alignment problems. I often see leg armor sitting weird or trapped under each other. Because the thigh armor has to be large enough to get your foot through, there is a little extra room in the thigh above the knee. This creates a bell effect and the thigh armor rests against the outside of the leg. If some foam is added on the outside side of the thigh, it aligns the thigh with the shin better and removes the bell (and bowed leg) look. Once you start seeing this in pics, you can never go back.

Another simple mod is adding felt to the TD clips so they don't scratch your kidney plate when you're putting it on and off.

I haven't used the next mod yet, but I thought I make them anyway to create some usable storage space. I created some pouches out of old socks and attached them inside my drop boxes creating some limited storage space for keys or something. Velcro keeps them tightly closed.

-------------

The next mod is where I keep my wallet and cell phone. I attached a re-purposed passport carrier to my backplate with velcro. It keeps it safe and on my person if I ever need it.

-------------

The next few aren't really mods, but are tips or whatever. I found that using a couple painting stir sticks and heat helped shape my ammo belt (idea stolen from a thread here on FISD). I used a car polish bottle inside my gloves when I attached my hand guards. They keep the correct shape and don't fight each other. And I attached a plastic mirror inside the lid of my Stanly bin. This way i can dress myself and get that TD on straight.

I hope some others chime in as there is a huge wealth of knowledge here. Never stop learning, we do. ;)

For the passport wallet/cell phone carrier, be sure to put your stuff in a ziplock bag or it will be a little sweaty.
