longshadow Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 Has anyone tried a Sterling folding stock on a DD kit? I'm rather curious to know if it's a good idea. Bought one on eBay today just in case. Otherwise it'll make for good reference material. Quote
Dougal[501st] Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 I modded mine with an actual smg folding stock! Turns your dd Kit into a display model though. At least it did for me because of the added weight. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
I'm Batman[501st] Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 Plenty have recently. Mine, Gazmosis, DarkCMF, just to name a few. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/32111-fisd-e-11-blaster-reference/#entry414352 I think others troop with theirs. Mine also has aluminium pipe, real scope, a few other bits so is waaaay too heavy to troop with. Quote
Bone[501st] Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 works beautifully, but will make the doopydoos too heavy to troop with. If you carry it around your arms become longer and longer, if you put it in your Holster, itt will drag down your belt ... Quote
longshadow Posted October 26, 2015 Author Report Posted October 26, 2015 Thanks for the input. As I plan on trooping one day, I will take this into consideration! Quote
bigcheesewilly Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 (edited) Seriously, the folding stock is pointless....There is no reference to it in any of the movies. So why bother...?? Adding a folding stock to the DD kit is like adding a hat to the mona lisa.......... -------- Edited October 6, 2021 by gmrhodes13 link not working removed Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 Actually, it's not pointless. For some kids, meeting a Stormtrooper is something close to religious. But some kids are still skeptical. One of the things that makes kids question if we are real is the blaster. Although I never handed over my blaster, i "helped" kids hold it by letting them hold the front. When they feel cold steel and the added weight, they immediately question whether or not it's real. "Hey! That's not a plastic toy!" 3 Quote
Bone[501st] Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 @bigcheesewilly You are completely right, but in that case adding a real scope is pointless, too, because you never see anybody looking through it ... Having a working bolt, btw, qualifies as pointless, too. But hey, come on, adding "real" stuff to the (otherwise) plastic weapon is the next best thing to owning the real McCoy. 1 Quote
Lichtbringer Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 works beautifully, but will make the doopydoos too heavy to troop with. If you carry it around your arms become longer and longer, if you put it in your Holster, itt will drag down your belt ... Get stronger. 2 Quote
charlesnarles Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 Get ankle weights and put them on your wrists
I'm doing a doopy with real stock and end cap at least that I plan to troop with. Strongtroopers!
If it's all about replicating the movies, Leia at least makes them look heavy.
As for holstering, did they not use real Sterlings for those shots? Or is it a matter of reinforcing the belt somehow? Quote
sylverbard[TK] Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 "If I drop it on your foot it will hurt. Of course it's real. We take the power cell out when kids are around. Lots Vader says child safety is important." Nobody gets the joke tho. Quote
Bone[501st] Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Ooooh, you aimed low with that one ... Quote

Nor are there for a functioning bolt, see-through scope, magazine release mechanism, selector switch and a working trigger. Yet people mod them accordingly. Just a thought.... longshadow Posted October 28, 2015 Author Report Posted October 28, 2015 For those that have put a real stock on - how do the pivot pins come out? Prying doesn't seem to work... Quote
longshadow Posted October 28, 2015 Author Report Posted October 28, 2015 Bah. Just ignore that. Found Gazmosis' build page... Quote
Bone[501st] Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 Don't loose the Pins, you want to use them on the DD kit. Quote
I'm Batman[501st] Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 Bah. Just ignore that. Found Gazmosis' build page... Gazmosis, DarkCMF and I all did our folding stocks different ways. There's probably another few ways of doing it too Quote
longshadow Posted October 29, 2015 Author Report Posted October 29, 2015 Can't get those dang pins out... They're thru just a teeny bit but now all I'm doing is bending nails trying to hammer them out. Are they tapered on one end perhaps? Quote
charlesnarles Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) Not noticeably tapered if at all. They're just old and stubborn! Some wd40 or maybe de-greaser might help depending on its condition (rust, dirt, oil goo). Mine came out without much effort using a hammer, a small nail and needle nosed pliers to pull it out once you can get a grip. One pin was very wet with original oil and the other had only some, btw. The hard part for me was getting the arms off the pegs! keep going at that old dirty oil until it surrenders Edited October 29, 2015 by charlesnarles 1 Quote
longshadow Posted November 2, 2015 Author Report Posted November 2, 2015 Those pins.... I have bent about 50 nails now trying to hammer them out. Used heat, pliers, liquid wrench.... any further thoughts?? Quote
I'm Batman[501st] Posted November 2, 2015 Report Posted November 2, 2015 Liquid Wrench - Sounds like a form of WD-40? Have you tried from both directions. Just checked mine - they are pretty beat up now, so not sure but they may only come in/out one way. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 I have 4 folding stocks and endcap assemblies. all real. Quote

T-Jay[TK] Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Sorry Harold, missed this thread. There are different ways to mount the real folding stock to the receiver tube, depending on your receiver's material (resin or metal). At the end of chapter #13 we show how Tim and Ian did it. Maybe this helps... http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/32111-fisd-e-11-blaster-reference/#entry414352 Quote
Rupp66 Posted November 11, 2015 Report Posted November 11, 2015 I used a tiny, broken drill bit. The high carbon kept it straight, unlike the twenty bent brad nails I went through. I recommend staying with the punch idea, as pliers can chew up the pins, making them difficult to re-use. My 2¢ 1 Quote
