allan1313[TK] Posted January 11, 2016 Author Report Posted January 11, 2016 BIG UPDATE! Was able to get back to building after the holidays. This is from the last two weekends. So I started to work on the bi-pod. I am using the shelf mounts. I cut them to size, cut off the ends, and glued them back together. Then I filled in the holes in the "feet" end. Tried tidying up the sections that were glued together. To give it more of the true bi-pod look I used Astyanax's trick with the 6 mm foam for some greeblies. Next I used some 2 mm foam to make some of the barrel more accurate. Also did some work on the gun/cocking handle. Trimmed the gun down where there was a bump and used some plastruct to create the "slider" part of the cocking handle. Put a few greeblies for looks. Then I added the "spikes" to the bi-pod. This last part of the update is something that took a lot of time and different techniques. It was fun and I think it came out pretty good. Let me know what you think. (Also the hole on the side, should it be a hole or just part way drilled? I have seen it both ways.) Thanks for looking! Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote
mikedwelle94[TK] Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 I'll be referring to this thread when I start my DLT-19 build. Thanks for all the pictures! 1 Quote
magni[TK] Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 (edited) Your build is coming out great.I think that hole does go through the sight. Not sure what Your using for a reload handle but can I suggest, I used a minimag flashlight tube cut down with a tubing cutter.mine is held on by a nut I glued inside and a bolt in a cut down drawer glide. It looks real when I run out of ammo and the reload sound goes off. I slide it back before the filled up sounds off. Blows the crowd away! One more element of realism. Can't wait to see you finish. I've followed it from the start. Edited January 11, 2016 by magni 1 Quote
allan1313[TK] Posted January 12, 2016 Author Report Posted January 12, 2016 Thanks guys. I was just going to use a wood dowel for the charging handle, but I am going to look for a knurled tube probably from a flashlight. Your handle sounds amazing. Very ingenious. Lichtbringer Posted January 12, 2016 Report Posted January 12, 2016 I like to see a good build. Esspecially for all the heart, sweat and tears (and sometimes some blood) that were put into it. 1 Quote
allan1313[TK] Posted January 12, 2016 Author Report Posted January 12, 2016 Here is a mini update compared to the last one. I wanted to work on what I think it's called the ammo box/feeder. With my build I know I can't get to 100% accuracy, but I want to keep the "look and feel" of the gun. So this is what I was trying to replicate: I made a rectangle box out of some wood and on top of that I am using some plastruct to replicate the other greeblie. This is all just guesses on my part from the pictures that I have been able to see. I still need to sand the pieces together and add the "cuts" in the front piece as seen in the reference pictures. Thanks for looking. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk 1 Quote

allan1313[TK] Posted January 14, 2016 Author Report Posted January 14, 2016 Question for anyone out there....I am trying to figure out the proper placement for the t-tracks. Does anyone have good reference pictures? The only thing I am finding is this: I would just like to see it in the barrel too. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote
Pyrates[TK] Posted January 14, 2016 Report Posted January 14, 2016 Really enjoying watching this all happen. Deadly work mate and thank-you for paving the way it's very appreciated! Sorry I couldn't help out more on your T-track dilemma the only thing I could find was this video: Uh I recommend keeping the volume off IMO lol https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7objspOEUQ Quote

You didn't like the music? Haha I can see some of the top T-tracks but the bottom ones are difficult to see. I will try to find some more pictures but thanks for helping. 1 Quote
allan1313[TK] Posted January 17, 2016 Author Report Posted January 17, 2016 I feel I am a bit scattered in the build. I guess it's because I have multiple things in process and I have to wait sometimes for the glue to dry. Anyways, here is some more process. I attached the middle sight to the tube with some E6000, will just need to use some bondo later to fill some imperfections, or I might leave it for a weathered look. I have also attached most of the t-tracks. Some need to be added after the rear bi-pod post. On the bi-pod foam greeblies I coated them with 3 coats of white glue to seal the foam and allow for better painting later. Finished the greeblie box that goes on top of the ammo box. The longer this takes me the more details I seem to want to add. Looking at the top of a DLT-19 right above the ammo box I see the gun has 3 "screws", a dip, another "screw", and comes to a point as seen in this picture. So I decided to give it a go. I am going to use three sheets of plastruct and some greeblies to get this look. Gluing the 3 pieces together. Also started some work on the bi-pod attacment piece. Cut a dowel and some foam to achieve the look of the original. I have had an unusual amount of time to work on it, hopefully it continues. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote
magni[TK] Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 Looking good! Did you figure out your T-track questions? Are you going to add the wires? I would recommend, it helps hold them in place and looks accurate. Keep up the good work! It's gonna feel good trooping with it.people love the BFG! 1 Quote

Looking at some more pictures it looked like the diagram was correct so I went with that. Yes I will definitely be adding the wires. I still need to do the rear bi-pod post so that I can place the last 2 t-tracks. Once those are in place I can add the wires. I can't wait until it's done and painted and I can show off the BFG!! Haha I did do some more work on it. I attached the butt stock the the gun. Used some dowels and green stuff modeling epoxy. This picture is a bit over exposed but shows the size upon completion. It definitely is a BFG! Some t-track detail... Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote
allan1313[TK] Posted January 24, 2016 Author Report Posted January 24, 2016 The blizzard here in the northeast has afforded me some time in between sholevling to do some more work. Also before my Anovos kit arrives next week. Had to cover up the hole on the top of the gun. Used some plastruct and bondo. Made the rear post of the bi-pod. This let me finish placing the t-tracks. Once the t-tracks dry I will put the wires around them. I was looking for something a bit thicker. I ended up using some old coax cable. Will place them after the t- track glue is dry. magni[TK] Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Your gonna want to put a small notch in the T-track just behind where you beveled the edge. Make a small eyelet on one end and bend at 90 degrees and look wire around track and through eyelet and bend over and trim. Dab of super glue on each track will hold everything tight. Quote

Did you just twist the wire together and hide the little twist? Quote
magni[TK] Posted January 26, 2016 Report Posted January 26, 2016 Mine look like two small loops underneath. So small really unnoticeable. From what I've read about the screen used DLT's had two loops twisted together then tucked in the bottom holes to conceal. My guess since these blasters were whipped up quick and the wires were needed to help keep the tracks on. 1 Quote

allan1313[TK] Posted February 6, 2016 Author Report Posted February 6, 2016 So my armor has arrived which has side tracked this a bit. I did take a few minutes today to get the wires on. First I notched some grooves. After that it was easy to just put the wire around and twist on the bottom. One other small update. I was cruising the MEPD boards and came across what they are using for the conical disk. It's a 3/4" beveled washer by Danco part #35101B. I ordered it (had to order 5, but it was still less than $2. If anyone needs one I can send them). Here is what it looks like: Looks slightly big for this build, maybe I will sand one to a smaller size and see how it looks.
