aardvark891[TK] Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 I plan on buying an armor kit within the next few months. I'm debating on the helmet though. I'm wondering if getting the helmet assembled is a choice most of you have done, or did you assemble your helmet from a kit you ordered? I'm wanting to join the 501 as well. Quote
justjoseph63[Staff] Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) I for one thoroughly enjoyed building my own, Robert, as I am sure a lot of others have. With all the amazing tutorials available here, it isn't that difficult to end up with a bucket (helmet) you can be quite proud of. I also liked the fact that if anything on it should need repairs, (as things sometimes do), I know exactly how it was assembled, and therefore how to fix it. If you don't feel up to doing it yourself, there are vetted (approved) armorers, such as RT mod and RS Propmasters that do it for you. If you haven't had the chance yet, check out this thread, which should give you a bit more insight. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/ Edited September 11, 2015 by justjoseph63 Quote
charlesnarles Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 The helmet is a great place to start in terms of getting building experience/confidence. You must do what you feel is right, of course 3 Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 This is also largely depended on which armor maker you choose. Some don't offer that service. Quote

charlesnarles Posted September 12, 2015 Report Posted September 12, 2015 I can say that I got an ATA helmet long before my armor was ready, so I did that as my intro to the plastic resulting in a less-than-ideal construction. On the other hand, I might feel less confident about building a pricier bucket without that experience. Doing a blaster first is another good option since resin + green stuff is more forgiving than ABS + slurry Quote
pattrooper Posted September 12, 2015 Report Posted September 12, 2015 It's all up to you, if you build it yourself start where you want and ask us a lot of questions, that is why we are here.....and don't forget the big brown box shot. welcome trooper. Quote
hon143 Posted September 15, 2015 Report Posted September 15, 2015 I was in the same boat as well before I started my build. I really wanted to find a way to have it where the bucket was pre-assembled and I would only have to do the armor myself. I decided against it since everyone I spoke to here convinced me to just do it myself. Once I got started (I got the bucket kit first since the armor kit has a wait list), I found it both gratifying and not difficult at all. Sure, the ears are difficult. But, it was more an issue of patience when doing the ears and slowly trimming it to fit perfectly. Quote
